is golf even popular enough to justify this? personally, i think they're trying to make CN as shitty as possible so when they switch back to cartoons the ratings will skyrocket.

lmao i think you're right, in these desperate economic times the only thing that will boost ratings is a crazed "new coke" scheme
i really really hope this is true

its not.
all the people who ran CN back when it was really good were all fired like a year or more ago.

its dead.

Quote from: rtiland they like cartoons, not reality tv
i think kids are too impressionable to have any solid opinions on anything

so if cartoon network starts showing a bunch of reality shows most kids will probably believe that reality TV is what is cool and what they should like

rtil

i think you're wrong

kids may be impressionable, but they're also stubborn

if you try to shove something totally new down they're throat, they're not going to enjoy it

i haven't met one kid in their target demographic who can't see through the crappy marketing facade of reality tv for teens trumping cartoons

trent bortknob

^ same here, i have yet to see a kid who actually has fallen for it, i just assume that they exist

shura

didn't nickelodeon do this too at one point? there was nicktoons, and then they had TeenNick or some where they showed live-action shows. it wasn't reality tv but it was still awful. i remember back then the shows bombed too, but nickelodeon never went back to the way it was

yes this is exactly what i thought of when i first heard about this

i completely stopped watching nick after teennick came out, it basically made nickelodeon MTV for elementary schoolers. slime time live was despicable. i think that network really jumped the shark when "rugrats all growed up" came out

i hate it when cable networks try to expand a target demographic beyond a niche audience for the purpose of ratings grubbing. the point of cable TV is each channel has something specific for a specific type of viewer, while the big 4 networks (fox abc nbc cbs) try to appeal to everyone. kids channels need to stop trying to be more than kids channels.
i think theres only one option once CN goes down the shitter

we should start our own channel

QuoteRumors are a flyin', fueled fooled by people who've lost their jobs mixed with some questionable decisions by the network... but..

NO, CARTOON NETWORK isn't changing its name. Not anytime soon anyways... they were gonna... But I think they're reality show idea didn't go as well as they had hoped (they bombed pretty bad), so... they're kinda backing out of that idea. Yay for cartoons!

No, Flapjack isn't cancelled. They haven't even started airing our second season yet, which is the best yet. They just had us make up our schedules and budget for third season...
[/i]

Although they DID pull us off the air in Canada, because we're for too old of an audience or something. Which I think is funny... sorry Canada, your country only wants baby cartoons... ;-:

TheMaskedMan

Sorry I'm reviving this and you wish it were buried... but it seems there's a shift.

Cartoon Network has started to air some of their older new shows. Namely "Ed, Edd, & Eddy", "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy", "Ben 10", and "Teen Titans".
They have replaced reruns of "Survive This!", "The Othersiders", Even the rerun of "The Shaggy Dog", and the combo "Ben 10: Race Against Time"/"Destroy Build Destroy" that was to replace "The Shaggy Dog" This week.

They're still showing New CN Real shows Wed night.

I know some of you may hate the Japanese-esque, typicalness, and choppiness of TT and B10.
I know some of you don't like the off-beat somewhat childish sense of humor in EEE.
If anyone hate's Billy & Mandy, I don't know a typical reason why...

but I thought it'd be nice to let you know that the 'Real' Idea is starting to weaken.

To me it seems they got the message that maybe ACTION cartoons would do better than REAL ACTION, so they're trying to check if it'll work. Sadly they don't have many action cartoons that they consider 'recent syndication' and they just finished Alien Force (which had potential but ended up being lackluster crap). Secret Saturdays and Brave and the Bold seem to be doing great, but I really wished they'd show them more. There also less League of Super Evil, which also sucks because I love the show to death.

That's your straight man talk for the day.

shura

airing their old cartoons is a really good idea since alot of the younger generations havent seen a lot of the older stuff. thank fucking god
