I haven't seen this posted and if it's archived somewhere already, I can remove this post. Maybe. Last time I tried to remove a post, I wasn't able to, which is totally understandable.

Yesterday, I watched the first two episodes of the show and I like it so far.

The soundtrack is scored by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein and there are a lot of synthwave/retrowave sounds that are brilliant to listen to. I like the opener.

I like the colour palette of many scenes and the camera cuts and panning.

The text opener was a cool touch into the episodes - I enjoyed that too.

But the script on some parts are like, nonononononono - stahp.

That's it. I hope the second season will be coolio as their first one.

i liked stranger things, although i think the conclusion of it was not as interesting as everything that led up to it. there's some really bad cgi near the end, too. it hit a lot of nostalgia buttons in good ways and i'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the next season

dis show sugged

but for real there were so many times where i was i thought that i was watching a really shoddy version of an 80s movie. I guess that's the appeal to some people but the whole thing was just painfully predictable and the characters were kinda just falling apart at the end. An 80s pastiche thats longer than it has any right to be considering it has like no new funking ideas. also am i the only one that gets deathly triggered when they detect characters acting in distinctively """""""""inorganic"""""""" ways? i felt that the kids were hollow in how they treated each other, just really forced feeling banter you know? i couldn't swallow it.  honestly if there's a second season of this show, here's hoping it really starts throwing curveballs our way.

p.s. all dose old 80s movies were in their own way homages to like, 50s adventures movies yes? they mined the past to create something distinctively of its era. but this was just like, mining the 80s to create, i dont know, just another 80s thing. with absolutely no commentary on what it's pulling from, it's just 'yes, this is like those movies.' sorry if this reads really badly i am by no means an articulate man on forums but this show was G

i actually thought the kids were the best part of the show. they were easy to root for and played their parts very naturally. whoever casted stranger things did a great job

also i'm not sure what you mean by 'commentary on what it's pulling from' but there's very blatant homages to film from the 80's and 90's, including but not limited to: twin peaks, alien, ET, goonies, scanners, poltergeist.. i could go on and on in terms of films, but it also references a lot of sci-fi and horror literature.

Jon

i think that if you're trying to create something that's inspired from past material it should amount to more than just shallow homages. to me it was just a weaker version of all of those things combined. why play into the expectations of viewers by doing the same things those films did? once you recognize the reference points i dont think theres anything left to digest. i think super 8 is a better take on this sort of thing (somewhat)...........i love homages and pastiches but i think brevity would have helped the show alot in this case.

rtil

i'm not saying it wasn't weaker i'm just saying they're pretty easy to recognize which i thought you were complaining about. in many ways it is a love letter to the things it's inspired by. i don't think it sucked but it couldn't follow through on its strong opening.

The locations seem on point despite them all being in Georgia.

its ok

i groan every time the grownups take the screen because the kids are the most interesting/naturally-acting part of the show

oh and towards the end of the season they're practically plagiarizing a bunch of classic sci-fi films

i uhhhh like the soundtrack

solid 6/10
