Just read this today. It's a comic from France about a tanner who discovers proof that the prophet of his religion actually failed his journey.
This obviously has dire implications for the religious leaders that run his civilization's government, a theocratic empire that conquers weaker "heretic" civilizations and sacrifices them in the name of said prophet.
And then his young daughter goes and opens her mouth about the whole thing, and they're hunted down. Cue adventure.

Beautiful Full-color artwork, believably detailed world-building, and relatable characters. Four volumes, about 70 pages each. Great read, but reader beware: the plot may not exactly resolve itself in a way that you'd hope.
