it's just as unrealistic, although hentai can be a lot more exaggerated (and there are limits to how realistic it can be, especially when it's animation and not just pictures), it can be just as degrading.

i suppose if the intent is to degrade women, for example maybe something with plot and dialogue where a woman is being treated like an object or something, then yes. but what i see in ero art with male and females doesn't change my perspective on gender, and i would wager that those who are affected in that way are abusing it.

yes that is true. but some people have much broader scopes of what they will judge people on. it's interesting to see how people's perspectives change on friends if they find something out about them. for example, a few years ago a friend of mine that i knew for a few months turned out to be a scientologist. he was one of the nicest guys i've ever met, but after i knew he was part of what i think is a dangerous cult, i tried to just forget about it and let sleeping dogs lie. he was still the same person to me. in the same way if i found out that a close friend of mine was something more relevant to the conversation like.. maybe a furry, or someone who is into bdsm, well, i'd try to hold my reservations about that because i know it would be right to not have it affect our friendship and it's none of my business.

kind of backing up sev's point here for a sec: it should be pretty clear that most people in that thread (as far as i know) haven't posted certain things because of their own personal reservations, so it's not exactly accurate to assume that everyone's 'fantasies' have been posted in that thread. i've mostly posted vanilla stuff for that exact reason.


this thread has seemed to derail a bit from what's wrong with hentai to what's wrong with what some hentai depicts. you're arguing about what's wrong with misogynistic pornography and loli rather than what's wrong with hentai in general. sev had a good point to restate that it's fantasy.

that doesn't mean we should have to justify what other people's fantasies are. the same thing applies to regular pornography because hentai is definitely not the only thing to show a woman in pain. i understand that cvg has certain problems with things depicted in hentai (or pornography) that offend her. well, there are definitely things that exist in hentai (and pornography!) that offends me very much as well. there's a reason i feel i should be a bit defensive when it comes to hentai, and that's because there's an assumption that comes with it.

when people see the word hentai they obviously tie that word to everything they know behind it, just as they would with anything else. for that reason sinitron brings up his digust with loli, cvg brings up rough/painful sex, and other people bring up tentacles, rape, and whatever the hell else exists within the world of hentai. the thing is, people are still perfectly capable of enjoying hentai without enjoying those specific things. why? because, it's fantasy. it's the same reason that there may be certain issues that other people have with some proportions in hentai. it's because that's what's sexually appealing to the artist. it may not be realistic in most cases, (even genitals, like cvg said) but it's drawn that way for a reason. being offended about a girl's vagina being unrealistically perfect would be like me being offended with a guy having an unrealistically big dick. or, perhaps a better example, a "perfect" dick. i'm sure most hentai artists draw the things they do because they enjoy those fantasies and get to share/sell them with/to people with similar interests. do you hate marvel and dc because all the guys are buff? or maybe you hate them because all the woman are a bit too well-endowed?

i'm getting a bit off-topic, but i hope the point i'm trying to make is coming across well enough. i don't like hentai because of one specific fetish or genre, i like hentai because it's just another form of illustrated imagination. except this time around, it's sexual fantasy.
