Check out the new "Faerie's Ire" artwork based on the "Pandora's Box" and the "Bamboo-cutter's Daughter" tale. It's a story that I had developed when I was a teenager, despite the lack of a setting for the story, it was held back for a few years for some revising. *** FOR VOTING -
Really quick I would like to help you understand my method for voting now that I will start incorporating votes with my reviews. There are 6 icons to choose from when voting for a flash. These icons determine protection and blamation (whatever), so after I review a flash and assign a number to it here is how I will vote upon its rating -
5 -- 9 & 10
4 -- 7 & 8
3 -- 5 & 6
2 -- 3 & 4
1 -- 1 & 2
0 -- 0
These below are hard to determine their differences from each other, so I will try the best to elaborate.
10's are perfect and AWESOME.
9's are close to perfection, but are still AWESOME.
8's are very good to me, they entertain but not to their full potential.
7's are the base of the iceberg, and have many strong-points though still contains potholes.
6's are better and have some parts that entertain me.
5's lack half of what it needs to have a perfect score.
4's are not quite mediocre and are one time views only, I must be able to finish a flash for this score.
3's essentially need to be worked on more, perhaps the flash is incomplete or just needs to be better.
2's aren't very entertaining and are abysmal, yet have something more than a 1 offers.
1's lack everything except for what it has that achieved a 1.
0's need to get off of Newgrounds.
When I review, I will elaborate my reasoning for why the submission earned what it earned. I will try my best to provide helpful reviews that you can trust. Those that vote on my reviews as 'useless' please update me on your reasoning why I didn't achieve your standards.
*** FOR REVIEWING -
Ok so I have created a fair way to review flash submissions which sit somewhere between AWESOME and abysmal. Everybody deep in their mind know when a flash is either a 10 or a 1, but how would you describe a 2 or a 7? This is my method in case anybody who happen to drop by my page wants to know. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of artists themselves dropped by to understand my concept.
Anyway here we go!
ANIMATION - This is where I judge your use of sprites or drawings, and how you put them into motion. My eyes crave plenty of eye candy, though some works don't need to include motion. Colors, details, backgrounds, etc. Anything that has to do with animating.
CREATIVITY - We all don't want to see a generic movie. How original can you get? That is the real test here. Every so often I would be watching a flash, then something hilarious would happen. How valuable are you willing to make your creation? Need an example? Watch FALLEN ANGEL, that is all you need to understand.
GENRE - This one is easy to get a good score in. If you are doing a video game parody, but nothing is funny or it makes me cry, then you can expect this area to suffer. Does the criteria match the genre you are going for? For example, if you know who Uwe Boll is, watch his movies. His movies never match their genres, unless boring has been issued as a new genre.
SOUND - This is where I judge on your sound. Is it clear? Is it unique? Does the voice acting match? Are often used sound files used in your work? (I've heard the same sound effects in many different flashes.)
SYNCING - If you need an example of a 1, then watch Godzilla in English.
OVERALL - The numbers among the 5 are added up then divided by 5 to get this. Overall is the total score of the flash.
BONUS - Keep in mind that I hate being too harsh on these projects. I do this for fun, and with each submission I get a little joy, unless it of course sucks ass. Anyway, if certain parts of the flash make me chuckle I will most certainly mention it here in this section as a reason for why I added a point or two.
GRADE - The total amount the submission has earned. The big number from 1 to 10 reflects this portion.

- A little too choppy and it is hard to tell what the background is.
CREATIVITY - 10 - xxxxxxxxxx
- Never seen anything like this, awesome job man!
GENRE - 10 - xxxxxxxxxx

- Heard some sounds that didn't make sense, but they were all original and great!

- The sound matched perfectly.
OverALL - 9.2 - xxxxxxxxx.2
BONUS - 0.5 - .5
- I like the fact that this is the 3rd in the series. You are getting better with your work and keep me looking for the next each time I login my computer. (.5)
GRADE - 9.7 -------------------------------- [A+]
This is a review I made up, but this is the format. Again, I do this for the hell of it and I do this to be fair for those that deserve the score they have earned. I hope this review system is helpful as you wonder your way around Newgrounds. Just a little contribution from The Zeldamaster.

(DETROIT FREE PRESS) - A 32-year-old Clinton Township man could spend up to 10 years in jail if convicted of biting off his wife's eyelid during an argument.
Rahsaan Lavonte Thedford is being held in the Macomb County Jail on $100,000 bond. St. Clair Shores 40th District Court Judge Mark A. Fratarcangeli on Tuesday ordered Thedford's case bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court.
He's scheduled to be arraigned on one felony count of assault with intent to maim on June 13.
"I find this crime absolutely heinous," St. Clair Shores Police Detective Margaret Eidt said today. "In 18 years of being a police officer and detective, this is the first time I've ever seen a case like this."
Eidt said Thedford's wife called police from her car outside her St. Clair Shores home at 4 a.m. on May 8, Mother's Day.
The argument began when the woman told Thedford to leave her home, according to Eidt. The couple had been estranged after the woman's 17-year-old daughter was assaulted in February. Thedford has been charged with misdemeanor assault in that incident and the case is pending in 40th District Court.
In the Mother's Day incident, Thedford is accused of punching is wife in the face when: "He was on top of her, leaned over and bit her eyelid off," Eidt said.
Police caught him about a block away, trying to climb under a chain-link fence to hide in a yard, Eidt added.
Thedford's attorney, Robert Vandenbroucke, was not immediately available for comment this morning.

actually, now that i've seen some more videos of him, i don't think he wants to be a girl. he's said when asked about his gender "i'm not a woman, i'm just a gay guy. sometimes i like to dress up and be flamboyant". he's said that he started out dressing like that because, even when he looked like a man, people asked him if he was a girl, so after a while he just went along with it to blur the line even more. i dunno, i think it's interesting.
also, i wouldn't really care if he did want to be a girl, i mean watching his videos has sort of educated me on the mentality of trans people. it just doesn't seem accurate, as he doesn't really do anything other than cross dress, seemingly for fun. he hasn't had surgery or started taking estrogen supplements. apparently, he likes to fuck with people. haters gonna hate.

Realistically, pop music is not very different than it was in the 90s, 80s, 70s, and so on. It's loosely defined but there are some common traits that have stayed through the generations: It's accessible. It relies on simple hooks and catchy choruses to sell itself. And there is always some level of emotional connection with its core audience. This is because that connection is not actually rooted in the melody or the words of the song, but the feelings associated with hearing it. People create that connection, not musicians. It's silly to heavily glorify any era based on a person's own experiences which have more than likely become biased over time. It is even sillier to do this based on a fragmented collective idea of the past that is largely based on stereotypes.
It's funny to me that there are so many kids wishing they'd grown up in a different decade. Punk subculture basically grew out of a fashion trend in England that was tailored to appeal to the anarchistic ideology that was emerging at the time. There is not a single trend started in the 20th century+ that didn't grow out of a person or group's strategy to sell and exploit that idea. There is no difference between Lady Gaga and Kurt Cobaine. There's no difference between Justin Bieber and Duran Duran. I have absolutely no doubt that in 10, 15 years people will be martyrizing this generation. And its no secret that kids growing up in the 80s wished they'd have grown up in the 60s. 90s kids wanting to have grown up in the 70s.

Punk subculture basically grew out of a fashion trend in England that was tailored to appeal to the anarchistic ideology that was emerging at the time. There is not a single trend started in the 20th century+ that didn't grow out of a person or group's strategy to sell and exploit that idea. There is no difference between Lady Gaga and Kurt Cobaine. There's no difference between Justin Bieber and Duran Duran. I have absolutely no doubt that in 10, 15 years people will be martyrizing this generation. And its no secret that kids growing up in the 80s wished they'd have grown up in the 60s. 90s kids wanting to have grown up in the 70s.

^^ yeah basically most people who claim that the music of their age was better just associate the music of their time with fond memories of their youth and stuff. i've met people who grew up in the 70's and claim that the 70's has the best music, etc. of course i've played them stuff from the 70's that they had never heard of as kids and guess what? they didn't like it, and put it in the same category as new music, calling it "noise". it's like they just aren't interested in music anymore, but act like it's music's fault somehow.

i can agree that punk fans can be douchebags who put a strict limit on what punk is. you can't have x amount of money, you can't have good production values, you can't do this and you can't do that. if you play a guitar solo, you're out. if your songs aren't fast enough, etc. i wouldn't give a shit what people like that say, i mean look at green day. people won't agree with me on this, but i think green day's newest releases are just as good or better as their older ones. they're actually MORE experimental now than they used to be, and they've ALWAYS had catchy songs.
however, it can go the other way as well. people hate on bands with a REAL d-i-y ethic all of the time, as well as straight edge bands. look at fugazi: they were really strict with who they did their business with, how everything was run, etc. they wouldn't do an interview with rolling stone because rolling stone had cigarette ads in their magazine. since rolling stone supports a company that the members of fugazi don't want to support, they wouldn't do the interview. and there is a ton of shit like this that they do.
some people get pissed about that, but i think it's more praiseworthy than anything. they're really dedicated, they're not only concerned with money, and they're smart. they know how to be profitable without being sell-outs or going out of their comfort zones. they're also hated on for their straight edge stance, as well as their anti-moshing shit, but for the straight edge thing, the members have talked about this before: they don't do it because they've had bad experiences with it. it's not like they talk down to everyone who does drugs or something. and for the moshing, if they don't want moshing at their shows, then they should be able to say that. it's their own show after all.
however, people get so angry about all of the stuff fugazi does. people call them pompous assholes, tightwads that put their own success and fanbase below their own ideals. i see absolutely nothing wrong with that, and it certainly doesn't make them assholes. i think music fans (punk or not) don't understand their place. it's your responsibility to find music you like, it's not the artists' responsibility to make music for you. when artists make decisions based on what they want and not what the fans want, they're usually insulted (look at thom yorke), but really it's fans acting like they're more important than they actually are.
so yeah. i think the problems go both ways.

it amazes me how so many people seem to be thoroughly superficial and surface level on top of just being really stupid.
yeah, it's really hard to tell the coke can from the diet coke can, especially since they're two different colors, and one says "diet coke" while the other does not.
and the fact that any consumers would get angry over the color of their soda can, or somehow start to think that the color of a can somehow affects the taste of the beverage inside is ridiculous. these people have been brainwashed by the coca-cola company to associate different colors with different things (green with "refreshing" ala sprite, etc) and i guess it's so strong an influence that it actually makes people think things taste different when the colors of the containers are different.
and it's funny in a sad way that these people get angry about these incredibly minuscule things, instead of getting angry at the bad and shady things that coca-cola actually does. and if you look at the big picture, these people are getting angry about the packaging of a product that is horrible for them that they're willfully buying. i will never understand people.
