I tried to keep the legs thin so that it would be more like the original picture. In retrospect, that is completely against the point.
I dug through my uber old photobucket and found monstrosities I wanna retry.
It'll be fun redoing crap from when I was crazy mind-polluted by anime and seeing how much my style did/n't develop over the past 5-8 years.

Being able to see two drawings side by side and actually have a chance to visually judge your progress as an artist is an exercise that I think anyone who aspire to do better in their work should take part in at least once in awhile. Not only is it a tremendous shot of confidence, if you actually have made progress that is, but even more importantly it is good chance to determine where you have failed to make improvements so that you have something in particular to focus on going forward.

Here's my first one. :] I used a character that I've never posted before (major old 2001-ish). Snoom, a little mushroom boy. He spends his days playing with his Venus "Dog" Trap (a venus fly trap that runs around on 4 legs made of leaves and roots) and running errands for King Tirr (a rose character whose red hair is made of petals and his crown is a spiky collection of rose thorns that encircle his head haha). I'm going to try scanning and redo other VERY old characters I've never shown.

Thanks Gregly! :} I liked seeing how yours became much more fleshed out and how the pose updated.
Although in retrospect, my drawing made me a little bummed because I wanted to see a huge difference like that, between now and then, and there isn't much...And this concerns me just a little. I will need to pull out something even older perhaps.

Okay here we go, mega old. Proof that not all my characters were good Gregly, haha. Here is Loco. I drew him when I was 13. I think my main visual influence for him was The Noid. But he's like some kind of odd character that lived in a world of other non-descript odd characters. Loco was a bad guy in the comic...he was like Hannibal Lector with nice manners and an innocent facade but then he would corner a victim in his home and torture and eat him while playing nice music and stuff. The dialogue was pretty lame and I misspelled a lot! So I blacked that out in the scan ha-ha. Unlike Snoom (who I still like), Loco is a dead character never to return again.

Nothing much changed except my characters are now in rehab for anorexia, and I learned what a face shape is. I still don't draw feet when possible.

so to update it I did what i do in all of my modern art
smudge brush everything
cover it in filters so it looks less digital (yet more digital for irony purposes)
give it pseudo-dark color corrections so it has a vaguely gothic look so i look deep and talented
make it splotchy because i have the motor skills of an infant and cant really paint
add a few lighting effect layers on top and voila:
