i can't tell if that ending was genius or terrible. i dont like that it renders most of the movie completely meaningless but it really makes you think. ffff
anyways the movie was really something special and you all have to see it

I don't get what it's about from the coming attractions, but it looks neat

it's been out for like 2 days stfu
Title: Inception
Post by: tmk on July 18, 2010 12:04 AM
yeah 21 mil on opening day definitely isn't unimpressive but it's lower than you would expect from a critically acclaimed film whose trailer points out that its "from the director of the dark knight"
Title: Inception
Post by: rtil on July 18, 2010 12:10 AM
but unlike the dark knight this film doesn't instantly have mass appeal, familiar characters or a recently dead lead actor

tdk was a box office phenomenon - inception is doing very well considering the ads can't even sell what the film is about

probably gonna be a sleeper hit

I almost didn't see it because of this but you all swayed me.

i think the failure of the marketing actually created a lot of buzz about the film of people wondering what it was about, and the positive reviews helped. it will have a solid opening weekend
Title: Inception
Post by: billy on July 18, 2010 02:09 AM
i have a feeling i will watch it and not know what the fuck is going on just like much of nolan's previous work
Title: Inception
Post by: texas on July 18, 2010 02:39 AM
it seems like it will be a really confusing movie in the first few scenes, but it gets pretty easy to follow after the initial confusion of the beginning. it shows a scene from later on in the movie first then inexplicably switches to another scene and goes to the real beginning

Yeah it's too respectable of a movie to pirate when it's still in theaters... When it's out on DVD then we've got a totally different story goin there

kinda wish the secondary characters had a little more depth to them, but aside from that I thought it was quite good. molly was a fantastic antagonist and I would have loved to see more of her bloodthirsty side

also, kian:
I wouldn't say the ending made the film meaningless-- it seemed to me that the top was close to tipping over when the credits came up, the film was just cleverly playing with the theme of doubt that it had built up throughout

yeah youre right, now that i think about it it was close to tipping over. im glad, that makes the movie even more fantastic
i just saw it and it was good

the part i didn't like was afterward explaining the plot to everyone

the only part i didn't understand was
why were cillian murphy and ching chong in leonardo decaprio's dream when they died? shouldn't they be going to limbo due to the level of sedation? was leonardo decaprio's dream limbo? if so, why was only ching chong really old? or was leonardo decaprio's dream not limbo, but mal somehow stopped cillian murphy's subconcious from dropping down to limbo when she killed him? oh i guess that explains it
I saw it with a couple of friends yesterday in what is probably the worst movie screening ive ever been to

the lights of the screening room were on and the film was out of focus so a small bit of the screen appeared on the top of it instead during the first 6 minutes.and the audio (wich, as you can imagine is already very noisy and irregular in this kind of movie) was terrible because the speakers were so old. Somewhere around the middle of the movie the film completelyb crashed and we could hear the speakers slowly losing intensity. (this was actually kinda cool because I tought I was in a fuckin dream gone wrong or something it somehow made the experience better for me) then the movie went back in and 15 minutes later the movie went out of focus AGAIN

other than that the movie was great

But I have to admit I liked Shutter island (previous dicaprio movie) more than this.
from my interpretation, limbo is a state plane anyone can reach once they are killed through sedation or continuing to go into dreams. the reason why ching chong was there was he had "died" already in the first level, he to be there from the very beginning of the inception process. the reason why mal killed cillian murphy was she knew leo would go there to get him, thus leaving with the ultimate decision of staying with her or failing the mission. He by doing this then confronts mal that even though she is a reflection of mal, she isn't and will never be the real thing, thus allowing him to let go of her.
yup

so i finally saw this film last night, it was the last day it was in theaters reasonably close to me. first of all, i thought it was funny that
time only slowed down in the previous level only when it was convenient for the story. what i mean by this is that we don't see the chase scene on dream level 1 start to slow down until he backs up off the bridge, even though it had been playing out just as quickly as the levels below it before then.
but i understand it's a movie and they don't really have much of a choice, although it would have been cool if
parts of level 1 played out in slow pieces so we get a segmentation of what is going on, because we already knew what he was going to do and did not need to see that many chase sequences in full speed
. one thing i didn't understand though was
why the chinese dude was so old in limbo. he didn't seem to have been dead on level 3 that long.
i really liked the film, though i think it would have been cool if they played with the dream world a little more than they did.
time slowed down when they entered each of the levels but there was no need for the movie to show the speed difference. to the people in level 1 time never slowed down. it sort of alternated between short cuts of the van driving and long scenes of the things happening in the lower levels. the movie only went into slow motion for level 1 when he drives off the bridge to show the difference in time that allows the guy on level 2 to do all the stuff in zero gravity for several minutes rather than several seconds.

my point was that once the main characters had reached level 2, scenes shown from level 1 would have been more effective in slow motion (in my opinion). i know that time didn't slow down for people that were still there.

Saito was old in Limbo because time is arbitrary there and to sort of realize their little inside joke about dieing alone.
I do agree about the lack of experimentation with dreamlike visuals in the film. Though I think Nolan didn't execute in a way reminiscent of Paprika or other older surrealist films with the intent of adding to the dream/reality confusion that persisted throughout the film.
I know you aren't an idiot and and didn't think time slowed down for the people that were still there but I thought that made the events of level 1 going at normal speed more effective in showcasing that what seems to be a large chunk of time is actually just a couple of seconds in reality.
