haha, you are making characters faster than i can update the site! although i admit i have been lazy with the site recently but that will soon change i have some stuff to spruce it up. anyway love the character, he'd really fit into freetown. artistically speaking i think the O stands out to much as it is PURE black so it really pops out, might wanna knock it back a little with a lighter color. i understand you are using paint.NET for coloring, i think you should download open canvas (it's free) or find other .. ahem .. methods of obtaining some better software, then expirement with tones and backgrounds! you are obviously capable of concept and character design, now you should really step it up.

Thanks for the advice! I didn't know open canvas was free, so I'm downloading it when I get to my computer (on my parents) The software, however, will not be able to obtain, for I am a poor student with no job *sigh*

So I didn't feel like coloring the picture on the computer... So here it is (done in crayons and sharpie markers). You can clearly tell I got lazy by the end of it.

don't start getting all filter happy on us now. i know that all the effects photoshop can do are fascinating, but try and stick to the brushes and blending and don't rely on effects.

some advice:
1. instead of dropping a gradient over the entire coloring job, do shading on the individual parts of it, the hair the face, etc. if you'd like to use gradients, select those solid tones of color with your custom selection tool or magic wand, then use the gradients.
2. if you're going to use a texture, don't drop it just on the background and not the character. since the character is very simple and the background is really detailed, they don't belong together. i'd suggest trying different layer tools to see what the character would look like with the same texture as well. otherwise drop the textured background, unless you want people to spend more time looking at that instead of the character you drew.

drew this and colored it with colored pencil on the 2 hour plane ride back from flordia, then tried to fix it up in photoshop, but kinda failed...

some of your outlines are way too thick, especially on the hair. try to not rely so heavily on your linework for figure.

the lighting doesn't really make sense to me. is that the mooon in the top left corner?
the colors are suggesting there is a light source coming from behind the camera in front o fthe character. it's not a moonlit scene if that's what you were going for. try working with darker and less saturated colors.
also, the shadow on the ground and the tomb stone, don't match the figure, they's all mixed up yo!

Any who, great jorb on the renders so far, The bunny death is pretty good. Although, I would suggest that its holding the scythe some how, because right now it looks as if it is just floating in that hand. And you can push your shadows a little more if you tried. Good job though, your getting better from all the other drawings I looked at the beginning of this thread.

I think I started getting drawing books in early 5th grade... but I had always drawn crappy pictures in since like... 1st grade (before that, people were scribbles of crayons on a picture and the word MAHM over it. My spelling skills were just as great as my arts skills when I was a wee lass )
