Title: Flash CS3 Crashes randomly
Post by: Kött on June 19, 2010 02:03 PM

Pic related (sorry for the German error message...)

I have never experienced this kind of problem before but recently flash just keeps crashing after a short while of working and it's really annoying as I am not the kind of guy who saves his files after every second brush stroke.
The error message should be the German version of this one:
First it freezes and I get a message like, "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", while some loading bar seems to be in progress. Seconds after the notifyer closes and I get the message shown above, saying:
"A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

A solution would be to finally switch to cs4 or 5 but I really like cs3 and I have a strange feeling that this goddamn problem is more based on vista than on the software itself...
The strange thing is that it doesn't even seem to depend on certain actions. it kinda crashes when you would least expect it to. When the program/the pc doesn't seem to be overcharged at all.

I have already tried reinstall it, even ran some cs3 clean script to delete every related file which as well killed my photoshop; anyway, that didn't seem to be the problem since it still crashes.
And ideas?

it's flash - it does just crash randomly like that. however when i was at university i'd alternate between my laptop (vista) and my regular computer (XP) and i tended to get more crashes on my laptop. im still wondering if it was the laptop or vista, but chances are it might actually be the latter

you could give flash 8 a shot - there aren't that many differences between it and CS3, particularly in interface

but yeah there isnt any solution to flash's random spazzouts as far as i know

no, that would not be a solution - at least with cs4, which i have, and let me tell you it is the most buggy piece of software i\\\'ve ever used.

i have heard though that a major cause of most flash crashes have something to do with disabling windows themes, like if you are using classic windows look. i am, however flash cs3 literally never crashes on me unless i try to open something that takes up too much memory than it can handle. afaik, cs3 is the last stable release of flash. but it varies from machine to machine.

i use cs3 at work as well, and it never crashes unless it\\\'s a memory related issue.

but as far as software crashing in general for unknown reasons - it can happen. there is no perfect piece of software, so you can\\\'t expect that something will never crash. but if it\\\'s crashing on a regular basis where you are losing your work a lot, then there is a problem.

Hm... yes... I always used to be content with Flash 8 until Cs3 came out and I wanted to keep up with the mass to be able to open their file formats in collaborations ect.
Cs3 may have brought AS3.0 but apart from that there haven\\\'t been many changes and the program\\\'s file size is about 10 times bigger than the filesize of flash 8...
In fact I think I still have an install file of flash 8 on my pc... I might actually try it if CS3 keeps being a bitch...

Hm... that\\\'s quite strange as obviously a memory related issue is not the reason flash seems to crash for me.
It actually happens right before actions that shouldn\\\'t stress the memory at all as converting something into a symbol or jumping to another frame in the timeline... just as the program denied to continue working by itself...

It really is not like it crashed once after having progressed with my project a lot and I\\\'m just being pissed off because a lot of work got lost. It\\\'s quite the oposite... Everytime I tried to continue working recently the program got shut down by this mysterious error and I only worked about a couple of minutes.
Google didn\\\'t spit out any similar cases as well and as I never had any problems with CS3 (actually, I just remember that random Flash 8 crashes actually made me switch in the first place) not even on Vista as I have this pc for a while already now, I just have no idea what the cause for this problem might be...

the windows theme thing is probably right, and heres anecdotal evidence explaining why i think this!

i crash like a fucker whenever i'm using win7 aero custom theme shit, but when i switch to windows classic and use flash i can literally leave flash running all day without a crash. luckily flash 8 seems to have conflicts with aero and automatically switches to classic whenever i open it, even though it makes my interface look ugly as shit, the advantages of not having to worry about crashes more than compensates.

also kotbullar whenever im making a flash my fingers are on ctrl+s pretty much the whole time and whenever i finish anything i quicksave that shit there is literally no reason why you shouldnt be doing this, and if you spend any more than a week on a flash you should start saving out multiple backup .fla's in case one gets corrupted.

How can you even think something like that of a fine man like me? All of my ancestors and family members were noble tradesmen such as my Great-grandfather Klaus Störtebeker, my uncle Mohammed Omar Hussein and that guy who moderates the special episodes of Spongebob.

There used to be an additional activation when cs3 was never but it looks like adobe has abandoned that procedure for the older versions already...
Nothing has worked tho... it always seemed to be the same to it might actually be a computer related issue...
The strange thing is that other programs as photoshop seem to run fine and even more confusing is that on my laptop (which uses vista as well) I have tested it as well and it worked flawless...

Thanks squeef! Not much of a ctrl+s user but it looks like I should get used to it... other than that I'm gonna try it with vista classic

yes cs3 is really nice but he is thewadeBrigade and as such involved in various "Flash Collabs" on I have frequent fantasies of a Dugtrio thrusting all of it\\\'s phallic bodies into my deepest cavities, sending me into a state of infinite, indescribable pleasure. If I could not have a Dugtrio, a Diglett would suffice as well., you may remember these childish playthings from your years in the Star Syndicate where you were involved in one such collab "The Mens Warehouse Collab", most of these pitiable children use Flash 8 as it is the *traditional* flash to use. Quite the silly assumption to live under I am aware, however, thems the rules as they say...........

although i must admit, imo, word-filtering N 3 W G R 0 U N D S (dot) C 0 M to that barbaric mess of a phrase is really childish and really fucking gay on your end so whose to say.

you cant pretend to be a mature and cool individual when you wont even allow discussion of a website that was a huge part of who/where you are today just because that particular website is a terrible horrible place and thinking about it reminds you of how horrible and terrible you are

The color selection tool, when dealing with gradients is laid out a little differently, with individual RGB editing options and shit.
