I play magic the gathering constantly and competitively. I've thrown it into conversations on the chat a few times with no luck for a responce. im really not trolling, it's a good game.
at any rate the new set comes out this month and im going to the prerelease this friday to compete in allentown, there will be something like 50-100 participates.
this is the new set (http://www.gatheringmagic.com/rise-of-the-eldrazi-spoilers-0249/). there are alot of new powerful cards that could see play among a number of competitive formats.
magic the gathering: discuss?
reminds me of me when I played yu gi oh like 7 years ago
ok like 5 years ago
Knew someone who played it... definitely better than shit like yugioh
yea ussually hardcore tcg players end up at magic the gathering, it's alot better then anything else i've played. it's been around for like 17 years, and it harbors players from various age groups. this gigaticly fat guy who has to be at least 40 comes by the local tornaments sometimes...
who needs magic when u got tf2 amirite XD
^
most of my friends played it in highschool during lunch instead of eating
i hate that game

you hate it because your friends played it at lunch, or for an unrelated reason? I imagine that your friends who have similar interests to you and are interested in magic would allow you to be interested in it to a degree.

yea i live in pa, for some reason i thought that was an understood fact when i made the topic.
and yea some people just don't get it, it's hard to explain, i guess it takes a more logical mind over a creative one. "left brain" so to speak. although i think a lot of the card art is amazing, so much so i used to think it was all computerized(some is) until i found out that alot them are very large detailed paintings scaled down to fit on a card. most older cards are clearly paintings too.
woops sorry i didn't know you were from pa. i live in allentown btw and its kind of a shithole!
a group of kids at my college play it in the cafeteria. they get really into it and scream at each other
it is quite humorous
I used to play it a lot back in the day. Every so often I get to hang out with friends, get drunk, and play MTG Unglued.
i used to play it but it's kinda boring and expensive

yea, sometimes people dont know that when you lightingbolt at instant speed it destroys your hellspark elemental before it attacks.
Quote from: ropesnakethis is one of those things if you havent played since the very beginning you will be completely lost.
a friend once showed me how to play it but fuck if im going to look through 17 years of cards just to play the damn thing.
yea, you just have to forget about those cards while your learning and play with one you have.

yea it's unhinged now btw, but its still badass

i hate it cuz they were obsessed with it for like 2 years, it's all they ever did. i like card games but i can't be assed to vest enough time into a game as complex as magic

yea i know what you mean, besides that fact that i know animating takes a but load of time already. but i found myself with too much free time and magic fills it.

There's people who play magic at the cafeteria. I never joined em' they took it way too seriously. It's one thing to play a game and follow the rules, it's another to role-play. They were weird.

yes.
Quote from: Old-Manhey slantedscareman do you have mtgo?
no, i find the idea of paying money for virtual cards a bit lame, i'd like to at least hold them in my hand, i have enough people to play with anyway since both my brothers play it, along with some of my friends, and some guys i met at fnm.
i just found out the prerelease tonight(this morning) is 12am-8am, so it's gonna be a bit rough.

I can bring my deck
and we can have a 3 way.
i remember the day I purchased a yu gi oh pack and It had a buster blader inside I was a great day
I liked to play magic years ago , I still have my deck around.
I have to admit I never fully understood all the rules and it was a bit complicated.
My favorite cards are probably those joke cards like the longest named creature card, they're probably worth nothing but still fun to look at.
Also in a semi-related note around that same time my brother was into the yu-gi-oh cards, the funy part is he wasnt actually interested in them at all, what he did was get expensive cards (he is a very fucking lucky bastard) and then re-sell them for high amounts of money. and when they started geting less popular he sold them all at once. He got like three hundred dollars out of that, dont ask me how he managed to do that shit.
yugioh is like magic for 12 year old asian boys
