I've never played survival. What's the difference beside the monster?

As rtil said, it can be fun at times, it just gets boring after awhile.

Now I just play Roblox. The userbase is childish (literally; they're children), but all you really have to do is shut off the chat, make your own server, then you're set. It's pretty fun considering that you aren't limited to the same boxes, and plus some of the public servers are...   ...varied.

Well for one, you dont have infinite blocks, and you have to CRAFT things to use.

For example.

Putting 2 chunks of a metallic substance on top of 2 chunks of wood makes a sword. putting 3 chunks horizontally at the tip of two chunks of wood makes a pickaxe. with enough minerals you can craft armor, kilns, workbenches, tapestries and eventually make a stronghold to make the monsters fuck off.

i tried joining zekey's server and it has a cage so that people can't get out of the spawn and delete all the artsy fartsy stuff.

i ran around for five minutes before giving up on account of me not being able to talk and left

I got banned from zekeys gay server for no reason at all, that scruffy guy is a real bitch.

Most of the servers I try to join have spawn points in areas you can't get out of. How much fun is that?

but i can't last three nights on survival mode my house always catches on fire for some reason

i can't figure out how to craft stuff in survival mode so i just end up making a super floating base in the middle of the sky

fuck, we had a hacker the other night who banned everyone and shut down the server. when it was back up, every possible flat area in the map was covered in giant cube LOLS and swastikas.

especially if you download this thing called world of minecraft which lets you play it in a seperate window (not in your browser) and you can use hacks like noclip and flying

My friend and I built a tunnel that was at least 5 Kilometers long. The parts that came out of the mountain, we used glass to wall it in. Then we laid down some rails through about half of it, and put some powered minecarts on to push us. As it turns out, minecarts don't work in multiplayer and glitch like a mother fucker. So much wasted time...

Yeah it's really a bummer, I wish notch would fix it soon.

Biomes. Basically as you traverse the landscape the enviroment changes. Some of it is major, snow, desert, forest, etc.
Alot of it is very subtle. Colors of grass and leaves change. The color of the sky changes. Water too.
Torches will soon be temporary means of light. However he added Pumpkins to the game. They are found in odd little clusters in tundra areas.

You're supposed to be able to carve them into Jack-O-Lanters but they are glitched and are already carved.
If you put a torch inside one they light up. They never burn out and make more light than the torches do.

Also the deeper you dig into the earth the more sources of light you'll need to see. Meaning more enemies spawning underground.





THE BIGGEST part of the update though is that now you can make portals to a world called The Slip. It's basically hell. In it everything is flammable. There's also gold. Massive lava waterfalls everywhere.
Lots of new rock types and 2 new creatures.

One creature is a peaceful race of pig-faced zombies. They dont attack you unless you attack them. Although they have such dumb faces it's rather hard to resist the urge.

The other is a creature called THE GHAST. Giant jellyfish things roughtly 17x17 blocks in size. With creepy faces that remind me of Yume Nikki. If they see you they shoot homing balls of fire out of their mouths that explode once they hit anything.

They are only in hell but they can get out if you build your hell portal in an area where they have room to spawn.

Theres other new stuff too. Sounds music etc.

Did the update make this run shitily on anyone else's computer, or was that just me?

Update is quite alright, I don't like how the first portal you make doesn't like to link up with your first portal in hell.

i love building nice looking shit with the environment in survival mode. right now im making an underwater glass dome that extends from land. The land part already has a hallway to a waterfall and a mining tunnel that got to lava.

This game kicks the dicks I love it.

it's  actually pretty easy to build underwater. get a whole ton of wood and make a dome with it. then cover it with glass, tunnel underneath, and use flint and steel to burn it out.

yeah plus it looks nice.

I replaced some of the lake floor with glass so that walking to the dome from land is also scenic ill post screens later

i know this sounds terrible but if this game had better graphics i think i'd be more inclined to play it

I can definitely stand better graphics if they can incorporate it as well as they do the simple ones

notch, the guy who makes the game, openly admits he's awful at art. most people find the textures a bit on the oogly side.

hence why people make lots of skins for the game. hell theres even a patch that allows bigger textures than the 8x8 textures the game is set to default to.
hence, people use like HD textures in skins making it looks like a bizarre cube version of Fallout.

notch is adding a skin wrapper to the game soon so you'll be able to download skin packs and change the textures with ease as opposed to the rather frustrating way you have to do it now.

also if I prepare a map in single player survival mode, can I possibly import that into a server and just have multiplayer survival? because I've built a few fortresses now and I had this little idea for having a little minecraft-based RTS where you're simply at war with other people.
I thought that'd be fun because I'd just be able to reset it with the minecraft file if there are griefers or fortresses get destroyed in battle. would anyone be interested?

the second house had the waterfall just in the middle of a flat cliffside and I thought it looked gorgeous so i wanted to make a house around it. the other 2 houses have added waterfalls because for some reason I love the fuck out of the water in this game. Today I decided to play around with texture packs.
To get HD ones working you need to use some weird patcher software. Although even after that I couldn't get them to work right.
Oh well, theres plenty of cool looking 16x16 and 32x32 textures out there.

i think theres ways around how it saves. I think it only saves when you tell it to plus when you press escape and control alt deleting could get around that or something

all of the above save the game
even ctrl+alt+del doesn't work, the game acknowledges you're looking at another window, pauses, and saves.
only way around it would be swapping windows while at the inventory screen. but no way to do that, I'd be dead.

hitting ' I ' so you are looking at your in-game inventory lets you close the game without it saving

If this happens to me, I pause before I can land then go open up my inventory in INVedit. I die, respawn, quit, then save my inventory in INVedit, and I instantly have everything back. Sure, you still lose your position on the map but at least you don't lose all your stuff.

So apparently trees dont grow right next to eachother but thats okay because my only worry is having a roof made of leaves because i can take care of the rest with wood block. one of the trees went supertree so fuck that messes the symmetry up. Still a hole in the center of the ceiling but i dunno i havent even decided where to put the staircase for this treeetower.

trees need at least a 5x5 block space to grow

My brother is so semi-paranoid while playing now. There're also griefers spawning invisible Creepers, looters breaking into houses, people making traps just to kill people and take their stuff... And at the same time, he's having a ball creating new defenses, like a lot of other people.

Here are my two favorite things I've built in MC:

The first is my treehouse. It has 6 levels. The 1st level is the atrium, 2nd is to the first "branch" (a glass tunnel leads you to a pond with a tree and a waterfall), 3rd is for the second "branch", 4th is for the train station, 5th is the bedroom and library, and the 6th is a garden which completes the tree-like look. It has a fishpond and flowers. The screens really dont do it justice.
