edit: alright, looks like this is pretty popular. here are a few guidelines and rules for when we do this:

- listen to your team captain
- don't argue with teammates. if they piss you off just mute them and listen to the captain
- if you don't get in the game when we start, you will be replaced by an able player
- pick the class that you sign up as
- have fun and kick ass

hey guys i wanted to try an experiment. i've been hearing (actually i just heard it from rtil) that some people are interested in trying highlander mode for the tf2 server one of these days so i had an idea.

explanation: highlander mode is a mode in which 9 people per team can play, and there can only be 1 person per class. in other words, no doubles, no triples, no teams full of snipers or kamikaze pyros, just people playing their favorite classes and playing the roles in each team they were meant to play.

due to the tactical nature of this mode, i was thinking it'd be a cool idea to have a full game sometime with designated leaders, alltalk off, maybe some reserved slots and some of the coolest maps out there (i'm thinking frontier). off the top of my head i was thinking some good possible captains could be ropesnake, ashington, isabella or zappy-tan because well they all kill everything and people kind of follow them already anyway. don't take it too seriously, i'm just recommending them because they're good, im not obliging anyone to doing anything here

a lot of people are good at certain classes and really cling to specific ones or can only play them, so i thought this would be pretty fun for people. it'd rely specifically on good teamwork and not as much on which team is stacked full of spies or which team had more medic heavy combos. our only hangup is that we don't have an 18-slot server, but i heard the cost difference was only like $2 and admins were considering this anyway, so if we do this, i'd totally donate $2 if people wanted me to so we can see how it went. who knows, it might be fun to have this occasionally, just as a thing we do sometimes if it works out. i'm all for it, i personally love strategy and maybe some of you guys do too

now that that textwall is out of the way, in the event that people want to give it a try, here's a potential signup list. lemme know what you guys think/want. if we do this routinely, each week should have a different signup so people can sign up for different classes and the leaders can change

i don't think it needs to be so planned out like this but i would be willing to give highlander mode a try. but if i had to pick a class i think i would pick medic

edit: competitive players do 6v6 because its much easier to organise and the class rotation is something like 1 demo 1 medic 2 sollys and 2 scouts if this highlander doesnt work we could try that instead

it seems like around 7/8pm eastern the server is most busy, and i have probably seen it full maybe half a dozen times or more for a few rounds. this is usually on weekend nights

i would prefer friday, saturday and sunday afternoons anything after 7:30pm eastern time

all depends on when j can/would upgrade the server. also this weekend is modern warfare free weekend so we might wanna do it next friday at around 7-10pm EST if we can't make it happen this weekend.

alright, this is how it'll lay out.

first off, jseed upgraded the server thanks to the gracious donations of the beautiful and attractive billy monks so it looks like we're all good for a game! 8pm to 9pm eastern time tomorrow on Saturday is the word, it seems. secondly, i was thinking that the best 2 out of the first 3 rounds would determine the "official winner" for this week. after the first 2-3 rounds, we'll just play for fun until the party expires, and we might even shift maps for some added fun. we'd gather at 8 and start playing when all of us get there. each round would be 10 minutes long. we'll be testing maps tonight, so feel free to pop by if you wanna help out with the testing and give some opinions. some extra things:

- alltalk will be off
- highlander mode will be on (obviously) with a 1man/1class/1team standard
- 18 people in. if anyone didnt make it to the team but expressed an interest in it, they're automatically in the BACKUP POOL. if anyone doesn't show up for their designated spot or there's any bullshit, we'll be asking people in the IRC (http://thebackalleys.com/chat) to fill in. if you're on the backup pool list and you want to play, it may be a good idea to hang out in the IRC tomorrow.
- pubbies will be kicked. there's an admin on each team, so we won't have much to worry about. if a pubbie takes your spot, let either me, rtil or j_seed know about it

tips:

- add at least your captain and maybe some other teammates to your steam contacts, it will help with organization
- as previously stated, LISTEN TO YOUR CAPTAIN. the teams are pretty balanced now and both have good players so victory will depend heavily on strategy. currently, we're looking at longer maps, so it'll be more of a "hunt your enemies" deal rather than a mess of spam. strategy and good teamwork will be a must if you want to win

also, i think we should hold a tf2 event night every week/other week. bug suggested some cool ideas like trying a 6v6 competitive round/tournament, and from now on, picking highlander night goon style (starts out with two captains, a coinflip and they pick it like dodgeball, each picking player-by-player out of a pool of 18 signups)

just saying the teams are totally fucked and blue team will win every time and cut through red like a hot knife through my dick

update: i sorted through the replacement pool a bit and tried to find an applicable person for each. next to the //'s, people whose names are darker in color are the "replacements" for people who may not be able to make it on a designated day.

update: we are now playing on both saturday and sunday, because the original captains cannot make it on the former day ( :[ )
