it's not

but it has a few good tracks, i think superfast jellyfish and empire ants are the best. some other tracks like rhinestone eyes and broken remind me the most of the gorillaz sound. for the most part i think the album is less about the gorillaz and more about having a collaborative feel, which would be fine except most of the guest artists suck or don't fit in

i'd say it's an average album but the videos that are going to go along with it will make it stronger. by itself though it's not that great, especially some tracks on their own

whats different about this album and the other 2 is that its almost exclusively produced by Murdoc.  Personally I like it more than demon days just sayin

danger mouse produced demon days which is probably why it sounded so good

this was all albarn and a few of his buddies. theres barely much of an actual traditional band playing in this, its like the total opposite of the first gorillaz album. i wasnt expecting the electro feel at all

i agree with rtil in that a lot of the tracks dont work that well standalone, but as an album everything comes together and it sounds really good

rhinestone eyes, broken, superfast jellyfish, empire ants, melancholy hill are the tracks that i'd call great

oh and their best song is still clint eastwood

Most of the non-rap tracks are great but I dislike most of the rap songs on the album. I generally hate rap though. Also, I like the album better than Demon Days but I never really cared for DD though. Their first studio album is solid stuff though.

what's with all the orchestrated hip-hop? that doesn't seem very gorillaz.

i think damon albarn's voice is a major part of what makes the gorillaz sound like the gorillaz, and with all the featured artists it just sounds kind of different.

i also feel that a lot of the artists really don't fit the gorillaz style.

If that's the case, then no wonder their second album wasn't very good. His vocals sucked on that album compared to their first one.

Post by: rtil on March 4, 2010 06:13 AM
actually he's been pretty damn consistent throughout all three albums. otherwise the gorillaz wouldn't have an authentic sound.

i've listened to the album enough times now to know which songs i like and which i dont

good:
rhinestone eyes
superfast jellyfish
empire ants
on melancholy hill
to binge
broken

ok:
the world of the plastic beach
white flag
stylo - would be good without bobby womack
glitter freeze
pirate jet

bad:
some kind of nature - doesn't sound like gorillaz at all
sweepstakes ... talk about mind-numbingly repetitive, horrible beat too

i'd still say the album is average mostly due to some bad choices for guest artists. the exception to the rule here being little dragon, she reminds me of the guest vocals on 'all alone' from demon days. really great voice for gorillaz

tomorrow comes today is the only song i have ever liked that is slow and sounds sad. all the songs i like are upbeat and happy or such

preordered it, can't wait to hear it. all i've heard is stylo and superfast jellyfish and i think they're both great though stylo could use some improvements.

okay i'm lying i only liked stylo because of the music video it wasn't all that great.

So I have listened to their third album three times and I recently listened to Gorillaz's first two albums for the first time in over 18 months. My conclusion?

Gorillaz >>>>> Plastic Beach >>>>>>>>>> Demon Days

Their first album is at least a 9/10 where as their latest album is either a 7.5 or 8/10. Their second album is a 6/10 at most. >_>

Edit-

Plastic Beach would be a definite 8/10 if that garbage track Sweepstakes wasn't on the album.

For me it's Every Planet We Reach is Dead. I feel its very underrated.

Also I think I'm going to like Demon Days still the most.  I think its the dark, murky, ominous feel of the album that really spoke to me.  I also am basing this off of word of mouth, not firsthand listening. I'm waiting for the album to come out this Tuesday because I want the CD with art.

You lucky prick. Wish I could go to one, but I doubt they'll ever come to Hawaii. I know they've already been through Oklahoma because my friend got to chat and shake the hands of Damon Albarn.
