So I'm working on my BFA. I'll upload pics of stuff as I'm going along
partial animatic (in the process of remaking it): http://vimeo.com/7745655 (http://vimeo.com/7745655)

Who wants to paint weights for me?
:P
(https://udrive.oit.umass.edu/jgchan/test_comp.jpg)
not too sure if I like the look of the kid there compared to the robot
if the robot had outlines everywhere it would work but right now it seems too awkward a contrast
you're not really gonna paint the weights are you? it seems like it would be easier to use the tool that lets you select vertices and enter a number for their weight value
Already painted the weights yesterday.
Actually it was really easy since I built the robot out of a bunch of different boxes/cylinders
that would make it easy. i don't understand why people still model unibody
I guess it makes sense for organic/flexing stuff, but for stuff like cars, robots, etc. I don't understand why you'd make it out of one block.
If anything, doing the UV layouts and whatnot are going to SUUCK for really complicated things that have lots of moving parts
the fuck
quit speakin all this bleep bloop techno mumbo jumbo!!

bitchin
the flaps at the top seem too shaky at the end th0
i dunno, i have no clue how to give advice wit 3d shit
anyway, is this maya produced or something else?
[massive bump]
Yes, it's Maya
The shakyness I will have to exaggerate, because it's the spiderbot hissing

Third pass on the animatic is up. I definitely have room for improvement; I'm looking to finalize the timing and shot list by next Friday
you should finish your toaster movie, that was a really neat idea
at the beginning instead of the long pan out you should have a still shot of the door and chairs, then a still shot of the outside of the building. the pacing of the pan out is kind of annoying. i think two still shots would be more appropriate
With the pan though, are you trying to slowly build mystery and then reveal its an orphanage?
Re-adjusted
http://vimeo.com/9118699 (http://vimeo.com/9118699)
I'm not sure if I want to keep the whole pre-fantasy beginning in there- I might be able to cut right from the window to the cloud scenes. Yes, the pan is in there to slowly reveal the orphanage- when I do the final matte painting for this it'll be completely dilapidated, but yeah 2 shots would probably be less annoying

(dilapidated like that. Only the orphanage is supposed to be like a tipped over vending machine)

Check that in like half an hour

http://jgchan.blogspot.com/2010/02/toon-sh...-acting-up.html (http://jgchan.blogspot.com/2010/02/toon-shaders-acting-up.html)
Slight problem with the toon outline (that wing up there shouldn't be completely darkened out)
Problem solved!
In case anyone else here ever goes into 3D, make sure that your objects are not negatively scaled or you'll run into all sorts of messed up
And now a hand drawn test

He fits in there very naturally. How does it look when it's animated tho?
No idea Fuzz. I know for sure it's going to look a bit mismatched with the 2D and 3D, but that's perfectly fine

Wow, VERY awesome Thor. I can't wait until you're finished!
That video was so cool. It looks so complicated to make all that happen!
I too look forward to when it's finished~

Hey Thor that was pretty good!
I've seen some of the stuff you post in IRC, but I've really neglected to take a look at this thread.
I love 3D stuff, vehicles and everything so this was a real treat in the afternoon for me; I just can't get enough of it!
I really like what I've seeeen so far, although my n00bie mind can't quite put together the story
Keep working Go Go Go :]
Damn, Son... Thats fantastic! I really can't wait until it's finished.
I was wondering why, in some shots, you have the little guy rendered in 3D and not flash.

Those look great! How do you do your shading and coloring?
The old fashioned way of course!
http://jgchan.blogspot.com/2010/05/d-animation-process.html (http://jgchan.blogspot.com/2010/05/d-animation-process.html)
Really, no trickery was used when shading, just good ol' fashioned techniques
2 of the backgrounds were actually photos heavily filtered in photoshop though...
nice
So cooooll~
Thor the terrific
Wow
One week only special: d will be online!
