This stuff will consist of every animation I do from this point and drawings I take a picture of with my shitty webcam to upload. I don't scan because the only scanner I've heard of around here is a hike from my dorm.

honestly i think you should try toning down your style of shading
keep the hatching cuz it can look cool if do it more subtly

Yeah I want to dim the marks down a bit, make everything smoother somewhat.  I have to be more texture-specific and not just shade everything the same way.

the best advice i can give for drawing people is to just draw actual people, at least 10 a day even if they're rough sketches. read a few loomis books and see how he lays the body and face out - over time and with practice your brain will naturally start piecing together how everything on a human body generally fits. thats when the fun begins and you can start warping anatomy to your liking

I'm starting to do my drawing and painting in photoshop. Lenko's characters and the racer were my first photoshop paintings. I have to use the smudge tool once in a while, yes, but if I used this mysterious tool that I rarely use now it'll look sloppy.

but there is one tiiiiny little tip i got for you that will make your drawings look x4000 times better. and it is very simple
when coloring,try to do the strokes following the form of the figure that you are about to draw. it gives them a lot more definition.
Im only saying this because for example, in your racing themed drawing you used diagonal lines in pretty much the same direction all over the drawing,and it makes it look a bit more... plain?.Theres a similar issue with the kid for lenko contest.
now while the diagonal lines do make a good job with that car since it is a solid,plain surface, probably you could give a bit more definition to that girls body stroking in the direction of the body´s form.

I know what you mean. I tried at that for a style sort of thing with uniform marks for the racer, and the kid for lenko's thing was a force of habit with the tablet. I'll be changing around how I work things. Thanks eman.

you should really avoid the 'chicken scratch' type of drawing. if you like lines, try hatching. use the direction and flow of the lines to suggest volume and tone.

Yeah I went way too crazy there. I started at messy gesturing then kept the same lineflow when contour and value came up. In the future I'll be sure to mind it more.

design interpretation of rembrandt's nightwatch. the teacher liked it and suggested a few things I'll be changing later for portfolio (make the black circle in the back grow into more of the background and maybe make it a darker purple. some other small things for depth too.)

I like it! I wish it was in better, in-person-ish quality though.

yeah i really hate my camera. up close it has a dotted texture that comes with the pointillism that i usually love.

The claymorph here was really fun to do, especially when applying dr.pepper. I didn't even have to move the water around much. The chair was tilted so I just had to shoot the frames as it ran down.

the tree scaling one looks really cool, and the faces one almost reminds me of a hord of zombie types, but i think the main point of those drawings is that you have your hair back in a ponytail like some sort of intern person man. both drawings look really good, you make me wonder why im wasting my time at northampton.

I really really like that tree scaling picture Marc, tis awesome. Also, you shouldn't be afraid to go even darker on your shadows on people, it'll help them pop out of the page a bit more. Otherwise, keep it up the good work

Thanks! the squash and stretch were water ballooney, the spacing had some issues, and all the bounces had a constant duration. :/

The revised version does feel a bit weird tho. I think the ball descends way too fast between each bounce. almost looks like if a force greater than gravity was pulling it towards the ground

however you seem to have overcome most of your errors in the second vid. nice improvements

It's from a downward angle. I think without specifying that it could be confusing. What do you guys think?

I know its supposed to be from a downward angle but it sorta looks off.
It look like it's wobbling around in a circular motion but really if it was dropped it should be pretty steady on left - right.(unless you intended it to be sort of thrown)
The ball's size sorta looks too small when its first dropped and maybe the string's length is confusing me.
I don't know man just trying to help.

I wouldn't know how to see this animation at any other angle. I try but hmm I can't see it :/. The ball definitely could be bigger at the beginning. Thanks Crabarms!

Try to watch a real pendulum's motion for something like this.
I think the first issue with it is that you didnt reduce the size of the ball enough when it is going up the first time
the second issue is your spacing. Some of the "cushioning" frames could use better spacing. or probably some more frames
you still have that problem where it feels like if a force greater than gravity PULLS the thing towards the bottom.

So as I've probably told you guys, Rappy McRapperson approached me daran and said hes co-producing the new Wing (http://www.wingmusic.co.nz/index.html) album, and needs music videos for it. He asked me to do one for Safe Party Happy ending, one of the 2 singles on the album and half the title of the album, while my roommate does a beyonce cover. The project's due january 28th. I'm doing it in flash. the song is about 3 stories of unsafe parties going horribly wrong for 3 characters. The first story is what im animating for my animation final this semester (due december 15th but im doing more than it by then). A girl get's ****ed up while retaliating an affair with her boyfriend at a drunken party.

I got my new intuos4 large tablet the other day and pirated artrage 3 pro, so now i guess im ready to do some sketches on the computer. I only came up with one tonight that I found publishable: the main character (one of 3 characters) of the first story. The first drawing is her approaching to physically assult a much larger muscular woman, the second is my thought of what would be the result. I like the first but the second doesnt feel very right because i rushed it a little because its almost 5 now holy shit time for bed

frames were imported to artrage 3 using a watercolor brush on watercolor paper. Overall I'd call this a successful and fun experiment! It had its hiccups and inconveniences but it ended up working! Fun stuff!

I've taken a stab at photoshop painting and the flow/opacity brush interface are super nice. I really enjoyed making this even though I'm not too jazzed about how it turned out. Any suggestions or tutorials pertaining to photoshop painting would be smurftastic

that's a good mix of effects and raw animation. i like the tanks shooting the most, the camera shake added a lot to it. i imagine it's even more powerful with proper sfx

yeah those tanks were really nice. the walk cycles at about 25 seconds were a bit awkward and unnatural but there was a lot of gr8 animation good job

yeah I need to replace that one, the moreframes Tank-Steam one and the lipsync at the end by the end of this semester with better clips I make this semester. But that's pretty much the best of what ive done in the past year and 3 months i guess

ah yea. i can still see it fine though. it looks good but one concern i have with your work is how sketchy it is. i know it might be a stylistic choice but it looks too messy to me, and the line weight is inconsistent

as for this movie, this things gonna be really miniscule, but yeah my line quality in general needs more fine-tuning. I'm erasing more than half the lines I draw.
