Title: Wingapo Yo
Post by: Hnilmik on October 29, 2009 09:34 PM
Sapphire showed Y. Chang showed me Rtil's Newspost on NG while I was talking to him about Halloween contests voiceovers can participate in (directly or otherwise). I also know a few artists here in a distant admiration, in-passing conversation kind of manner.

I heard all the time that this would be a decent place to hang out if I wanted to pick up animation skills (once I get into it), but I'm a mostly conservative individual who'd avoid scary/disturbing people at all costs, so I lurked around a couple times instead. Since it takes time for me to get used to people I'm not used to, I figured the logical and more productive way to build up tolerance rather than to wait around is to simply get started with the immersion method.

Pleased to meetcha and I look forward to the riveting conversations we may have in the future. I like to think myself as open-minded, so I also look forward to learning all sorts of new things here and there.

(Don't worry, I'm less formal when I'm comfortable around people. I'm sure I'll get used to you dudes.)

xx; Oh. And I'll be honest--Sure, I made an account to participate in the Halloween contest (I'm making my entry right this moment), but I mostly became a member so I could change the settings and turn off the option to see sigs. ::cringes at Zekey's festering maggots sig::

Pleased to meet you too~

And it appears you too have an interesting fascination with spiders. Me, I tend to be very startled and sometimes squicked by them, but that doesn't stop me from being interested in them. I can study them in pictures, behind a glass, and films, but I'm not too fond of them suddenly scuttling out of nowhere. On my bed. My squeamishness towards spiders lessened after I studied them for zoology class.

I'm sure you've seen these videos already, but if you haven't, they brought a smile to my face and I hope they do the same to you.

...And I agree, spiders can indeed be cute.

I want to go back to Hawaii just to look for Happy Face spiders. They're really tiny, so I must've missed them the first time around.

I was wondering what kind of spider that one was, so I thank you for enlightening me. All I knew about that one is that it jumps and I assure you that I didn't mistake it for a happy face spider. I didn't notice that picture was shopped (or even smiling for that matter) until you pointed it out.

This is the original picture, right? Still cute.

Cute video~ However, zoology somewhat ruined all video games with monsters in them for me, particularly JRPG's. On one end I'd be all "Whoa, that's a pretty cool monster" and then say "Wait, I don't think it'd be able to survive with those traits"... Insert something about spiders and their book lungs here.

The thing about big-eyed spiders is that they always look curious and inquisitive~ When they scuttle around a little and tilt their bodies to the side, it just adds to the cute. Sure, I flinch when jumping spiders decide to leap at my face while I'm looking at them, but when I find them again, safely out of reach and observing my spastic reaction from afar, I get back to (carefully) watching them with equal fascination.

(https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi18.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb145%2FLordZivilynBane%2FRandom%2520Photos%2FBugs%2520and%2520Animals%2FHullo-saystheSpider.jpg&hash=3d396df74064850ee1cda1bc02a224a9e104df16)

I took this picture of one of those guys when I was in high school. The most endearing thing? I pulled out my camera to take a picture and it raised its front legs at me as if to pose and say "Hi". It's hard to see in the picture, but it's there.

(https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi18.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb145%2FLordZivilynBane%2FRandom%2520Photos%2FBugs%2520and%2520Animals%2FTarantula-003.jpg&hash=5931af97c3abfbaf6ec5e7fae555965242786869)

Another old picture while I'm at it. I found this recently molted tarantula at the archery range. I think it's a she due to her size (she was as big as my hand) and we had to move her somewhere safe or we'd accidentally step on her while retrieving our arrows. She was really docile for the most part, even though she was pretty scared--Scared enough to bear her huge fangs after being relocated.

the tarantula you described is probably a trapdoor spider
it's hard to tell honestly unless you take a good look at its eyes or spinnerets
i know its not a tarantula because it lacks urticating hairs, or any other apparent hairs for that matter, trapdoors are just naturally glossy

@ REDMONGOOSE
That's cool~ They're pretty neat (once I get over the initial shock)~ I was impressed when I learned that they utilized many different kinds of silks according to what they wanted to do and by golly they do a ton of things to catch their prey, among other things. Not to mention that according to my Portuguese friend, to call someone a spider in their country is a compliment: It means that they can do all sorts of things, like a Jack-of-All-Trades.

@ LordZeebmork
Awww... I'll do what I can, but I'm still gonna take my time. You don't want a sloppy, rushed job. Trust me.

@ InsaneX
Whooooaaaa... That's pretty neat! It even looks like the one on the Wiki article! And now I learn that it's actually a trapdoor spider. I wasn't able to get a too good of a look at her eyes, but I was able to see her spinnerets. In my opinion they were pretty long, once you compare them to her legs. About half the size of my pinky finger, or a third or half the size of one of her legs.

Dude, you're making me want to take more pictures of spiders in my area since I find many different kinds every single time I head out to the archery range.
