i don\'t know if any of you are sim city fans (probably not) , but i tried the cities XL (http://www.citiesxl.com) demo today. it only lets you build a city to 22,000 pop, then cuts you off and tells you to pre-order. it\'s like sim city, but has a lot of differences:
- fully 3d with several zoom levels
- can build in any direction
- you deal with resources and industry more than before
- you can export/import jobs/resources online with other players
- 8km square blocks of land , in other words you can build huge fucking cities
some downsides i noticed while playing though..
- pretty graphic intensive, most machines will probably lag a hell of a lot trying to play
- you get to make an avatar for yourself as mayor, but the characters are fucking ugly. no matter what you do your character will come out looking like a creepy middle-aged man. in fact, all the avatars in-game are ugly as sin - male and female. thank god they\'re not a central part of the game.
- the MMO-type aspects of the game didn\'t make any sense to me and i couldn\'t really try them in the first place. and that\'s kind of a big deal considering it costs anywhere from $6 to $9 to have a monthly subscription
- some bugs with roads and grass lots cause an offset, and there\'s a problem where your mouse is misplaced by about 50 pixels down so you have to guess where to click. hopefully they\'ll fix this
it comes out next month, i\'m still not sure if i want to buy it or not. $40 + 3 month sub would be $58, and since there are those MMO elements you\'d have to play every once and a while or get shafted on resources. or who even knows, like i said i couldn\'t really test it.
if you wanna try the demo you can download it, install & make an account to play. you get 7 days to play, but if you play for a certain amount of time or your city reaches 22k pop it will just quit and tell you to buy it.
download the demo (1 gig): http://www.bigdownload.com/games/cities-xl...ies-xl-demo-us/ (http://www.bigdownload.com/games/cities-xl/pc/cities-xl-demo-us/)

ignore the repeating buildings - the beta & demo only use 10% of the available models
game comes out oct 9th i think
I fucking love the SimCity games, I'm totally gonna check this out.

well definitely give it a try
i mean simcity 4 is great but it's starting to show its age
It showed it's age like 3 years ago B(
this post has been removed
i always wanted to get into simcity
i dont know if these games are any similar, but i enjoyed rollercoaster tycoon, and the gameplay itself might be similar but with a different theme. so I'm definitely gonna take this opportunity now
plus simcity = there's a mac version right!!

unless i can summon godzilla and destroy all of that city i do not cars.
i don't know if there are disasters in this game or not
probably not
never get a game where you have to pay for it more than once
no video game is worth it
you don't have to subscribe to it
i played and beat this demo a while ago, and it's pretty disappointing. no demo for mass transit, and apparantly you won't be able to use buses, trains, subways, highways, etc without paying the monthly subscription. this pretty much makes the single player experience missing a huge element of gameplay. and the MMO features are not worth it. $9/month to trade resources and walk around in other people's cities..who cares? the interface also sucks and it still feels like a beta.
hopefully they will use the money they suck out of subscribers to improve the game substantially. i'm gonna sit back for a few months and see if that's what happens. i hope so, because there probably won't be another game like this with, at the very least, a promising core, for years.
Hey I was interested in checking out Cities XL 2012, but after I torrented it, I realized there pretty much isn't any keygen or crack available anywhere that isn't fake or charges a fee. Does anybody have any suggestions on where to go from here? Not really interested in paying the $39.99
tbh it's not even worth playing for free because it's a waste of your time
I bet they'll release a 2013 version this year with only minor improvements and 3 all new buildings
This game proves that even no name companies will milk their fanbase dry
Ended up finding a cracked version of the 2011 version. It's pretty fun but fuck paying $40 for it.
Looks interesting to me. I just noticed this is a 3 yr old thread, hah. Don't know if I really want to make an avatar, maybe I'll make him a dog or something, if that possible. That's what I'd do if I had that game.
you can only do one thing with your avatar - try to make them not look ugly as fuck. and you will fail. because whoever made the base model for the avatars has never seen a human being in their life.
They have, however, seen buildings. Maybe he was born in a cubicle and raised by the company, only having interaction with robots with tentacle like arms and computer screens.
yeah, the cities themselves can be quite beautiful. unfortunately the game is so broken and boring that by the time you get there you're not as proud of your creation as you could be, unlike with a game like sim city where you actually had to work to get there.
