Title: Help Me Please!!
Post by: BloodyCheery on August 28, 2009 11:29 PM
I just now tried to turn on my laptop. The Sony Vaio logo comes up, then a black screen with a message that says "Operating System Not Found." I have turned it off and restarted it, taken out my battery, everthing. Nothing's working!! Does this mean that everything has been wiped out? Please help me! Everything I've made (scripts, videos, naval documents) is on there!

EDIT: Also another note I'd like to make is that I usually leave my laptop on. I don't turn it off. Is it possible that the hardware or something else overheated? Is there any way I can recover my files if it IS a hardware problem?

EDIT 2: One more thing. A couple of weeks ago I had accidentally dropped my laptop and the headphone jack was shoved inside my laptop (my headphones were still connected when I dropped my laptop). I had someone look at it and they told me that the jack was touching the motherboard. I am supposed to turn my laptop back in on Monday for a new headphone jack piece to replace the broken piece. Is it possible that the broken headphone jack piece touching the motherboard might have screwed it up and it's only now showing major problems? Of course along with my laptop overheating due to me never turning it off.

if it's at all possible, back up everything on your HD

try booting from linux, there are some linux system restore discs/usb boot shits out there that you can use

wait so you were told that shit was in physical contact with your motherboard and you still used the computer

I blame you for emitting rays of shittiness that made the computer implode itself

Problem solved. My stepdad took a look at it and discovered that the guy who temporarily fixed my laptop had forgotten to put one tiny screw back on. That small screw was what held my hard drive. At some point yesterday the hard drive disconnected and that's why my laptop couldn't find it. Right now I have to hold and carry my laptop at a certain angle so that the hard drive doesn't disconnect again until I send it back in the shop for the new headphone jack piece to be fitted in. Everything seems to be fine. From now on I'll be turning off my laptop instead of putting it on sleep mode.
I'll admit I don't think clearly about the consequences of my actions. I don't shut my laptop off because I think "well putting it into sleep mode won't hurt it." Also I am lazy and impatient to wait for it to load everything back up. I am mentally retarded with electronics of any kind. Also the repair guy said that when he looked at the headphone jack it was on the motherboard but he had moved it away so that it wouldn't cause any permanent damage. He told me that it was safe to use until I had to send it back in. I had no idea that there was a screw missing. I do agree with Ansel though. I shouldn't be blessed with today's technology as in every single case I've come into contact with it something goes horribly wrong. Yet I use those same electronics. I never learn.
Sorry for all this nonsense guys. Thanks though.
