hey everyone time for a little update. this isn't in the news section cuz nobody that reads fp would care.

so basically the original purpose of this site no longer exists - a personal site to showcase my work. i have moved all that to my portfolio site. here's what's going to happen once i learn how to implement it:

• the art, animation and store links are going away. like i said there is no need for this anymore
• resources is going to turn into a tutorial and free file downloads section for plugins, etc. anipedia will stay up, but it will no longer be linked anywhere. i am going to find a way to make the tutorials section part of the forum, a special place where you can submit a tutorial in a subforum and it will appear on the forum as well as in a special place specificially for tutorials. i will create BBcode guides and new codes to allow you to format it. i'll also try to implement syntax highlighting for AS2/3, but i can't guarantee anything.
• files will be moderated as well, but will be a place where you can download anything that is for free for stuff on the adobe line and other relevant tools for animators, artists and programmers. basically tba is going to turn into a resource-oriented site, which was something i've wanted to do but anipedia didn't work out like i hoped it to. i think making the forum a part of it will help, as the member database will be the same.

and my question for you guys is this: if there was 1 thing on the site you could change, what would it be? it can be something big or small, i don't care. don't say "delete site/forum", "ban member x", etc thanks

I don't think "upload and show" and "collabs" would fit nicely together in one forum. the upload and show is a forum where you can post your art, not organize a collab. Maybe another sub forum, then we'd probably get more collabs going on as well.

Also my suggestion; a log in thing on the public uploader. I know you worked a lot on the public uploader already and probably can't stand working on it anymore but a "username" and "password" field would be nice, so you can log in with your forum account and there, see the files you have uploaded. I know you got that IP stuff already, but as you know, I have a dynamic IP so it doesn't really work for me.

music and voice acting hmm, if it was discussion based as well i guess there\\\'d be room for it. although i don\\\'t see why you can\\\'t upload music and voice acting in there already, it\\\'s not like topics disappear quickly.

and there is only one forum theme right now. i said i would make a dev pack for anyone that wanted to make a skin, but even putting one together would be a monumentous effort much less making a skin. there\\\'s like 9348759387534 things you have to change, really gets boring after a while. it does need a "light" version though, i guess.

here's an idea:

make the tabs "art" and "animation" on the main site a place where if you post something decent in upload and show, it gets put in there/on the frontpage. it would certainly encourage more people to join up and post more of their stuff. it'd be an art portal except very controlled so nobody just walks in and puts up some sonic recolor.

theres always gonna be assholes and trolls and retarted people on the internet and telling them to stop wont help, they still can do whatever they want, and banning people just because they acted like an asshole or trolled in one thread is ridiculous and so is sending warnings

of course there are extreme cases like tim c who has autism and everyone picking on ixintro (which was because the first thing he said when he came in here was hey i got a scholarschip and tywo at large tywo tywo)(but hes a nice guy), but that doesnt happen every other day

2. introductions forum is a always a huge mess and general forum is the most visited forum so i think we need some moderator(s) to cover those areas

we have contest and game mods so we would just need to fix the problem areas

If members did start getting permabanned, chances are they wouldn't take it lightly and we'd hear about how the forum's so strict (using that term loosely) and can't take a joke

As far as the introduction section goes, it's up to the members to show new_member_x a bit of mercy so they can adapt to the ways of the forum and learn the rights and wrongs
That whole mercy factor however is pretty much non-existent in the forum as we give the new user the heaviest taste of what the forum member base is like, along with mocking the new member in posts or making identical topics until the person doesn't even show up anymore.
Yes, it would be in the best interest of new_member_x to lurk a while before joining or even posting, but most (especially those who don't know who any of you are) don't know what they're in for (as we sometimes even tell them) and can't expect for them to do so

we should make a "BEFORE YOU POST AN INTRO TOPIC READ THIS" thread in there and then pin it

i do agree there needs to be another mod. just one more. i'm not sure who it's going to be and whether i will make the choices private or public. i think shadowfox does a good job, he does more work than most people think. sometimes i come to the boards in the morning and see that he has closed some topics or deleted posts and they're decisions i would have made myself. but we do need someone else, preferrably a european who is online when people in the US are asleep and aren't available.

i have changed the animation/collab forum into entertainment discussion. upload & show now encompasses collabs as well. i will ask that collab threads go in there now.

i like yings ideas about frontpage art. as i have been doing with some albums, i've been showcasing stuff on the front page. both albums have received over 200 downloads, so obviously art would get more exposure as the pics would load instantly. someday far off from now when i've converted TBA into a full-on community, i would like to have a feature like that. one thing i've wanted to do is have "recent art uploads" on a sidebar, but i don't know how to implement it.

i will not be adding a validation forum. i think half the members here who are great now would have never gotten a chance on their first day.

Along with front paging albums you should showcase some cartoons from other people here on tba

you should see on the right navigation bar, "logged in as _____", with a log out button. if you're a guest, it will say you can log in or register.

as far as the login info overlapping, it should be better now. i removed two links that are no longer necessary. in the future i'll make sure that they don't overlap. if i can't because of the amount of links, i'll just make a new bar underneath them

i like the new design changes btw. usually they're a bit ehh to me but the bigger font is pretty cool.

i am working on the new tutorial interface. it will take a while as i will be testing all the features before i release, but i want it to be ready to go. you will be able to write a tutorial here on the forum using bbcode. the uploader will be improved so that you can upload files under your name. you will be able to delete & manage your files if they're needed for the tutorial.
tutorials will have to be approved though. this will prevent people from spamming it or garbage getting through, which was a big problem with anipedia.

you will be able to edit your tutorial anytime, and people will be able to respond and leave feedback, etc.

new & popular tutorials will be on the frontpage of the site, and there will be a searchable database in a special section for all of them, based on software, category, or however is the best way to sort them. still trying to decide how to do that. i think it will start as broad sections like animation, art, and software, and within those more specific categories to make it a little easier. tutorial titles & descriptions will be important, too

the subforums will dictate the categories. i want to keep it simple, but at the same time keep vastly different topics seperate.

if two people created similar topics and they were made within reasonable dates of eachother, a moderator or admin would have to come in to merge the two topics. this is one thing that will still be important - authors of tutorials, guides or what have you should still keep up on what they've made and improve or update it when necessary. the good thing this time though is they don't have to worry about other people editing it (besides our trusty staff )

there's not much there for you to see so far, but for me it's been a lot of coding work. this page is basically mirroring hidden categories on the forums. that way if i decide to add or remove categories or sub-categories, the script does it for me.

what do you guys think of the categories? too many, too few?

also, i think it will be worth noting that when you go to actually view a tutorial, the sidebars will disappear for ease of use and all that. you can also go to the thread on the forum, but the tutorial section will have special tools to interact with the rest of what i'm coding.

i really like the layout of it. maybe you could add a search bar, so that people can do a search for the specific tutorial they're looking for
