i got an e-mail this morning asking if i wanted to upload/test the art portal
so far there's only been a few on it, here's the good and the bad so far
good:
you can create a thumbnail for your art with a crop tool, very useful
you can choose a creative commons license
there doesn't seem to be a filesize/filetype limit atm, png accepted (for once)
tag system (why not for flash cartoons already?)
bad:
limited categories (illustration, fine art, 3d art, pixel art and "other")
same review/rate system as the portal..i think this is stupid
small view can be kind of squished, but that will probably be fixed in the wide layout
..we're gonna see some baaaaaaaaaaaaad, bad art
i'm sure they'll launch it prematurely so look for it soon
i fled the depressing art forum a year ago, but i am now tempted to try out this portal

the whole "please rate this artwork from 0 to 10" thing is dumb
good thing about the cc license tho

I think it will be like the audio portal, where artists need to have their work approved before they can start submitting, and then onmly the hand of Wade can stop them.

Well as long as numbers are held over input, and honest input often tantamount to a review ban, then of course the majority of reviews will be worthless cocksucking. Really If they got rid of the numbers yet left a review count open people would put the effort into writing reviews and perhaps feel some obligation for criticism.
Of course only a small portion of the people will have anything insightful in their words, but still.
Also I hate tacking numbers onto complex opinions, and a single number makes it worse.
they'll never get rid of the scoring system, but they should at least give authors the option to allow or disallow reviews. some people would be better off not hearing all the crap people have to say about their work

As long as the literature is legiable, and it isnt made up of increative fanfacs, Im cool. Same prediction with the lit portal remains the same as the art portal (with scoring and all).
I would just use the lit portal as another creative outlet. Cant upload much music, dont have Flash (Newgrounds hates my .msi setups ), but I still write rants at school in the morning (speak my mind).
