First time I saw something on Cartoon Network that was live-action was that thing where they had that one guy and that black lady they eventually replaced and they'd do a little segment before going to a random episode of a cartoon from a random show. I don't remember what it was called, but later on I found out the guy on the show apparently had an actual career so I was confused as to why he was on the show.

I think Cartoon Network's prime was probably in the year 2000, as nearly every Cartoon Cartoon that was around in '00 was fairly strong. I think the network's overall quality started to decline around 2002, when shitty shows like Whatever Happened to Robot Jones? and Codename: Kids Next Door made their debut. Those shows were horrible, especially Robot Jones. What a horrible piece of shit that was. Now that I think of it, the network's last great show was possibly Sheep in the Big City. Too bad ratings weren't very good for that program. It should be noted though that I pretty much stopped giving Cartoon Network the time of day back around summer '03, so I can't really be critical of their newer cartoons as I've barely watched any of them. I only have a decent idea of some of their newer programming due to the fact my 9 year old cousin constantly watches the network whenever she visits. The only show I have seen from her visits that seemed decent at all was Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Everything else on CN seems either shitty or meh.

robot jones actually lost a contract bid against the grim adventures, but they felt like being nice and letting them make one season of it anyway. so it wasn't going to last either way. still, it wasn't
that bad, and i certainly wouldn't contribute one season of a cartoon to the downfall of a network.

My friends niece was watching a show on it so I'm like, "well if this kid is already watching it I might as well view it to see just how bad this is."
The show was that one survival show called Survive This! Which was a bunch of kids who didn't seem to know a thing about the atrocities of the real world trying to survive in a forest in the midwest united states. They walked up to their first challenge, which was: *drumroll* an overturned bus. No, they didn't watch a bus overturn, they simply walked up to a bus that was on it's side and fashioned to look like it was in a mild crash. One of the snots said, "This is like the most intense thing that's ever happened to me." Nothing has actually happened TO this kid, they simply SAW a bus that was on it's side. The actual challenge involved them trying to forage for useful items from the bus in a set amount of time. The show dragged on with a bunch of pussy-hurt kids whining and I look away for a second and look back. You know that corkscrew on a pocketknife? That one that you'd only flip out if you needed to uncork a whine bottle? A girl had that stabbed into her lip. HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT HAPPEN? WHAT WAS SHE DOING? So they have a paramedic come and pull it out because she's too much of a wuss to do it herself and she talks about how traumatic the experience was.
I asked the little girl who I was watching this with if she'd rather play Mario or something than watch this and she agreed quickly.

Psi, you're mostly right, for the US, it's the Neilsen Rating System, my family participated in it for a while.What they do is send every family member a booklet they fill out throughout the week and at the end of the week, we mail it. Based on demographics and all that shit, they get the Ratings Share numbers which are directly related to the number of families who sent in booklets. After that, I don't know what number crunching they do to figure out the amount of people watching, they probably just look at viewership trends and stuff and guess. It's all about the shares!
This means that if you accidentally flip the channel to that shit, it won't count because you're not writing down "Accidentally flipped on Cartoon Network between 8:35:45 and 8:35:47" and mailing it out... But don't watch it anyway, it's just awful.

i completely stopped watching nick after teennick came out, it basically made nickelodeon MTV for elementary schoolers. slime time live was despicable. i think that network really jumped the shark when "rugrats all growed up" came out
i hate it when cable networks try to expand a target demographic beyond a niche audience for the purpose of ratings grubbing. the point of cable TV is each channel has something specific for a specific type of viewer, while the big 4 networks (fox abc nbc cbs) try to appeal to everyone. kids channels need to stop trying to be more than kids channels.

Cartoon Network has started to air some of their older new shows. Namely "Ed, Edd, & Eddy", "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy", "Ben 10", and "Teen Titans".
They have replaced reruns of "Survive This!", "The Othersiders", Even the rerun of "The Shaggy Dog", and the combo "Ben 10: Race Against Time"/"Destroy Build Destroy" that was to replace "The Shaggy Dog" This week.
They're still showing New CN Real shows Wed night.
I know some of you may hate the Japanese-esque, typicalness, and choppiness of TT and B10.

To me it seems they got the message that maybe ACTION cartoons would do better than REAL ACTION, so they're trying to check if it'll work. Secret Saturdays and Brave and the Bold seem to be doing great, but I really wished they'd show them more. There also less League of Super Evil, which also sucks because I love the show to death.

Low brow was replaced by more classics and Cartoon Cartoons, then Cartoon Cartoons disappeared off the network while older WB shows started to bleed in as well as new originals, Then movies, action died out, Goosebumps and more WB diluting, leading to this. a bunch of bricks on the floor that...if you look in the right places, looks like it still has a chance to rebuild itself.

That show was only being syndicated by Cartoon Network, it airs on Teletoon in Canada I think where it hasn't started a second season. The main character makes me think of Zim from Invader Zim too much though.
Also, with Ed, Edd n' Eddy, I really want to see it on CN too, but I'm guessing the reason why Ed, Edd n' Eddy is back on the schedule is because they're planning on airing the movie sooner than later.

slamball used to be on spike but not even that demographic could save its ratings, cn was probably their last resort

Cartoon Network has always had award winning cartoons, too. It makes me wonder why does anyone get rid of those to begin with. Their last show to obtain an award was Camp Lazlo. It wasn't a big award, but it was still an award.
How do you win awards with Real shows anyways?
