Title: project freetown
Post by: rtil on February 2, 2009 01:51 AM
after some thought i've decided to turn freetown into a comic. reasons being:so, i've sent the animated series to scrap and started a comic. i haven't put this anywhere yet but i'll be showing stuff here first to see what you guys think. here is the cover page. i'll make a couple pages before i start releasing it, because i won't able to work on it alot from here on until may when i'll be dealing with final projects, graduation, getting a job and probably moving out of state. hope you guys like it. the first part of freetown focuses on the story of erelli, which i haven't touched on at all until now

also that is one niec cover

Yeah, I've gotta say that it's sad to hear that I won't be able to sit back with some popcorn and watch another episode.
But Freetown is Freetown, and I'll take whatever of it I can get.
Besides, comics are cool

Also, it looks like there's three suns out there now, and he's wearing an overcoat...

So you couldn't get any help on the animated series?
Why not recruit some people?
But still, a comic is better than nothing.

i don't have the money or resources to do that

Wait really? I assumed it was something you wanted to make into like a full-fledged series someday and not tackle it completely on your own. I can understand the comic route, the same thought crossed my mind about my series a few times but I don't nearly have the experience for doing solid artwork to make a halfway decent comic. Like the cover, too.

Also if you were up to it you could do special points of the story as fully animated movies or something.

Everyones already taken the good points so just going to say good luck! It'll be great to finally see what freetown is actually all about as this pic here's been somewhat of a tease. http://www.thebackalleys.com/freetown/the-...uctors-cast.png (http://www.thebackalleys.com/freetown/the-conductors-cast.png)

I always thought it would work better as a comic with say metrocircuit style shorts produced once a year just to show things off a bit. Glad you're taking this direction, because like Khale it would just take you too long to tell the entire story if you did it in Flash.
Title: project freetown
Post by: rtil on February 2, 2009 07:05 PM
mm yeah khale too. but seriously i'm talkin fallen angel lengths of wait times for single episodes. then there's the size issue thing.. sometimes it's just better to convert it all to video but then LOL THIS BELONGS ON YOUTUBE

Are you gonna use the Comic Section of TBA and post them there, or are you gonna make a different site and make it like a webcomic? How are you gonna distribute it around?

i'm going to post it here and on deviantart. i will post the pages here a few days earlier though for people that are actually interested in reading it. i will utilize the comics section, i'm looking for some good free software right now, something that will just allow you to browse by page and all that. i've also been thinking of putting things here you can only get here, like maybe colored pages or flash/comic hybrids. but i really can't bother with all of that right now, school calls

Well rtil... if this is what you really have to. It would be great to see it animated but, i understand you. Its only one of you. You will turn 50 when youre done animating the whole freetown story. Besides, i always enjoy reading good quality comics, especially with a capturing and strongly appealing style like yours. Itll be just as good, sorta... if you really know how to be alive with the story and the moments of the comic. Plus you get to enjoy the artwork on a closer perspective. Its not all bad... i look forward to your comic then!

Oh no I mean it sounded like you were gonna do the entire thing on your own, but when I saw the first "episode" I assumed that it was just a test and you'd really wanted to have it done in an animation team. It was hard to tell what direction you were goin' for.
Title: project freetown
Post by: rtil on February 3, 2009 06:33 AM
oh. well maybe someday i'll pitch it , but not with that. the reason why i animated metropolis circuit was to test how far i could push myself from just an animation standpoint. i took a song i liked, some characters i had for what was a vague idea at the time (which was freetown), and made them do crazy shit. as far as the story, i'm not even sure where it will go as i actually start putting it down in comic form
Title: project freetown
Post by: Kirbopher on February 3, 2009 07:37 AM
Okay cool. Hell I'd imagine after a while you'd establish enough connections to make that happen, who knows. Either case I'll definitely check it out.

Post by: Zwickel on February 3, 2009 07:49 AM
I hope to see it animated later on as you are an animator more than a comic artist in my book.

Well, I'll still enjoy the other flashes you make every now and then.

It's a sad day for MEETNFUCK Metropolis Circuit.

i think you should make it a stage play that uses minimal props except a chair and a bottle of whiskey and a statuette of a weeping mime.

i also think you should only cast 2 people to play all the parts. and that both of those people should be girls.

ok? ok.

those are my helpful suggestions

On the way to Oklahoma, I turned into a cat
My true love was a Tiger, I'm sure you can see that
I called the tiger Dolly, it was my mother's name
On the way to Oklahoma you finally became sane

On the way to Oklahoma, a voice inside my mind
Demanding that my senses expanded space and time
The voice revealed a feeling of heated ecstasy
On the way to Oklahoma, I peed upon a tree

On the way to Oklahoma, I needed to eat meat
So I attacked a dog who was sleeping in the heat
While eating in the sunshine a pleasant thing occurred
On the way to Oklahoma I licked myself and purred

On the way to Oklahoma, his split became complete
Reality had faded, his fantasy complete
The world he had constructed, from felines and despair
On the way to Oklahoma, became as clear as air

I dont see why DeviantArt dosent have a Flash app for navigating through comics. I mean it saves time and compiles the whole comic in one deviation. I know you could do this yourself in Flash, but it would be better if dA made one for us (not everyone knows how to use Flash).
