Fuck Twilight.
The Spirt looks like cartoony fun.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button looks great.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno will hopefully not suck.
Quantum of Solace is gonna be the bloodiest Bond Movie from what I heard.
I really don't want W. to suck.
2008 was pretty good releasing a lot of good movies this year.

You faggots are too lenient on any piece of shit just because it's artsy or something
no
the two factors i base movies off of are coolness and whether or not they make me feel something
if something makes me really tense or sad then its good
all the artsy stuff in the fall was really cool and i felt something for the characters
i dont automatically like artsy movies but they usually have that coolness factor that i like
guy ritchie is making a sherlock holmes movie
robert downey jr is sherlock holmes and jude law is watson
I get the feeling Billy hates anything artistic because he doesn't immediately understand it or something. Every art house thing I've posted on this forum he has fiercely shot down with the stupid fucking answers of "hopelessly art house" or "pretentious" neither of which actually mean anything. I don't see what the big deal is. So what if something is focused on being a visual piece or is focusing on being figurative and abstract? That's interesting because it gives you something to think about.
I fucking adore the fall. It had some of the best imagery in a movie, ever.

I've always been a Brosnan and Connery fan, and the bond franchise has been my favorite to watch since I was six. I haven't watched it but I'm not really sure where to stand on Craig. Hes definately bringing something new to the series, I'm just not sure if its what I like.
Anyways I plan to see the movie, however cliched it is.
Quote from: DavebutAnyways I plan to see the movie, however cliched it is.
Actually it's probably the least cliched Bond movie to date, due mostly to the fact that absolutely nothing happens in the movie. It's just a bunch of really well shot and directed funny action sequences.
Thats really what I expected, yet didn't see fully amplified from the last movie. Its not really Bond. His decieving charm and danger has been thrown in for a more common Action hero type. Its okay because it has been executed so well so far, but I'm afraid its all going to melt together like every action movie.
You know what that reminds me of on some unrelated level?

Well that's just it though, he is suave and funny and charming in this one. His character is actually different significantly than his Casino Royale counterpart. Yes he is still not the cold uncaring and cheeky Bond from the past, but he is getting there. I think they really are trying to tell an origin story, and eventually the Bond from Casino Royale will become the Bond we knew for a long time.

terminator four looks surprisingly cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBuv_Qw2oog
It has Christian Bale, it must be good!
also at 1:34, the guy running in the brown jacket kind of reminds me of Doctor Who.
its directed by the guy who directed charlies angels
terminator four does look cool, but I've never seen a terminator movie, so I probably wouldn't understand it.
i remember reading somewhere that
its going to be like the dark knight in a sense that you dont really have to see the previous installments to know whats going on
all you need to know is that machines took over the world and the leader of the human resistance is a guy named john connor
so the machines sent cyborgs back in time to try to kill him but all of them failed
and now for some reason the future is different from what it was supposed to be and john isnt the leader of the resistance

Zack Snyder directed 300, a movie with almost no talking and lotsa gore. Now he's gonna direct another comic book adaptation - which has almost no action and lots of talking. What.
Being that Watchmen is the only "superhero" comic I've ever read and will ever read, and I loved it, I'm kinda disappointed that the newer version of the script supposedly has too much action. I hope the movie's good and whoever plays Rorschach stops imitating Batman.
About Terminator: I never heard many good opinions about this series, is it really good? I mean, sure, classic Schwarzenegger stuff, but... Is it good?
terminator 1 and 2 were good
3 is alright
trailer for 4 looked promising
what rtil said
they also have that tv show
terminator: sarah connor chronicles
but ive never tried watching it
supposedly the tv show is really good
i hated terminator 3 though
terminator 1 is also pretty overrated but still very good
terminator 2 is fuckin amazing

The movie has been cut down to about less than 2 1/2 hours.
Zack said the movie is gonna try and stay as close to the original.
But, the ending has been changed.
Fuck.
FUCK
FUCK
Yeah, I read about a different ending in the script review I read. I don't know what it is, but... Why fuck with the ending from the series? Fanservice or something? I doubt it. It was an awesome conclusion.
i saw wanted last night cause my friends have been raving about it

Well everything is gonna be the same and stay as true as it can to the comic. From start to finish.
But they changed one thing from it.
One fucking huge thing
has anyone seen slumdog millionaire?
its a fun watch. even though i do have a few issues with the plot, it was very entertaining. and the female lead is GORGEOUS, hottest indian chick ive ever seen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIzbwV7on6Q
Judging by the trailer, it looks pretty nice.
And there are showing at where I'm at so I might check it out.
And I fuckin love Danny Boyle.
Although one of my parent's friends said it was just "eh, ok."
the plot was pretty underdeveloped and the movie barely even had the funding to get finished, it switched studios and all that. so the fact that they got ANYTHING out of the footage they had, let alone a quality film, is amazing.
i liked it because it was original and fun to watch. also surprisingly violent and disturbing
Quote from: f0dalso surprisingly violent and disturbing
what? danny boyle directed it. there is nothing surprising about that.

Koyaanisqatsi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naqoyqatsi)
Amazing cinematography with around one and a hlaf hours long, and with some amazing orchestral music, it never outlasts its welcome. A chilling look on our own lives and co-existance with nature, and I film I would like to see redone with current technology and state of living. It took me so long to find because I couldn't remember how to spell the name.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFBijDU8PpE
In fact it has two sequels, Powaqqatsi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powaqqatsi) focusing on life in third world countries and humanity, and Naqoyqatsi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naqoyqatsi) focusing on our lives becoming technology dependent. All are worth watching.

looks really interesting, although the phillip glass song was starting to get on my nerves lmao
It really is the kind of thing you have to be prepared to watch. Relaxing yet slow-paced and constantly flowing, definately something that wouldn't fare well on TV.

How could you not like a movie with Morgan Freeman in it, that man's voice can lull me to sleep quicker than anything.
And um James McAvoy, the lead character, has to be the second sexiest man I have ever seen on film. He's gorgeous.
also I've never seen any of the terminator movies but I know that the lady in it uhh Linda Hamilton? Right? She's from Salisbury, Maryland which is where I live so they talk about her all the time cause no one else famous has ever come from this city lmao.

IMO hes a skinny lil prick, he actually ruined "last king of scotland" for me
i just saw frost nixon and the wrestler.
frost nixon was really fantastic, frank langella could not have been a more convincing nixon. the movie sort of changed my perspective on him a little bit.... nixon is still a pathetic figure but i feel more sorry for him now. really entertaining film too despite it being somewhat slow paced. the drunk phone conversation might just be good enough for langella to win best actor over sean penn and mickey rourke
the wrestler was also very good, but unrelentingly depressing. it also changed my views on wrestling a lot... as a sport, it is definitely not "fake," just "staged." even with the planned outcomes all the hits are real and you see the toll it takes on mickey rourkes character. it was kind of shot like a dogma 95 film (if any of you even know what that is) and i liked it but man its difficult to watch, tragic as shit
i still need to see benjamin button but ive heard mixed reviews. milk i would also like to see, it looks like a good movie but my friends would call me gay just for seeing it lmao
MGM put the entire Koyaanisqatsi movie on youtube on an account.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sps6C9u7ra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sps6C9u7ra)
For those of you to lazy to rent it
Banjamin Button is fantastic, but it's almost like Forrest Gump in a way.
Well, one of the writers of Forrest Gump is in it so that explains it.
Still very good though!
Quote from: f0di still need to see benjamin button but ive heard mixed reviews. milk i would also like to see, it looks like a good movie but my friends would call me gay just for seeing it lmao
benjamin button was really good, but it was also extremely long and it dragged in some parts. it's definitely worth seeing tho
yeah LA times gave it a bad review but everyone else ive talked to liked it even if they were disappointed with the similarity to forrest gump and the long running time. i also love david fincher, fight club is amazing

as much as everyone hates tom cruise (including myself) valkyrie was not only a good thriller it was also historically accurate
i honestly think they panned it because of their dislike for cruise, which imo is unfair
Quote from: rtilas much as everyone hates tom cruise (including myself) valkyrie was not only a good thriller it was also historically accurate

That does sound unfair, especially when you consider that the movie has some good supporting actors, Kenneth Branagh and Bill Nighy to name a couple. It's also nice to see a film showing good germans during the war.
Another fantastic film i eagerly await the release of is Let the Right One In. Anybody seen it? Whats it like?
Quote from: f0dyeah LA times gave it a bad review but everyone else ive talked to liked it even if they were disappointed with the similarity to forrest gump and the long running time. i also love david fincher, fight club is amazing
actually, i don't think benjamin button resembled forrest gump at all. It was like "The Notebook" but with the male and female roles reversed, and it was less sappy

Lookin awesome
really? i think it looks terrible
the characters are boring
shane acker went to UCLA so he knew all my animation teachers. i liked his short film version of 9, the feature does look somewhat disappointing though. i really wish he had added something more to his character instead of rehashing it 9 times, really dumb idea... as for the animation, the backgrounds and effects look phenomenal but i can see where rtil is coming from with the characters... the woven texture effect looks very cheap and unrealistic. and im not a fan of the voice acting selection either
but it still has a chance of being a good film, i honestly couldnt tell anything about the storyline from that awful trailer

ah i saw that one, a good vampire film. there was this lovely subtle feeling through the whole film, i really enjoyed it.
I just saw a movie in which a young boy named Ingemar is sent to his uncle's house in some small town in Sweden in the 50's
I don't remember the name of it because the original title is in Swedish of course but it's pretty cool! Except for the parts that are child porn
I just saw Persepolis for the 3rd time. I love that movie.

Finally saw it the other day, it's probably the best vampire film made in a long time, good story, interesting characters and a stunner of an ending.
Shinjuku Incident
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCuRX_SfhHI
Chan plays a character named Steelhead in director Derek Lee’s drama about illegal Chinese immigrants working in Tokyo. The workers are living beneath the law, ignored and despised by Japanese citizens, and forced into dealings with the Yakuza. Steelhead goes to Tokyo initially to search for a lost girlfriend, but eventually comes to lead a group of immigrants in their fight for fair treatment and survival.
It'll be good to see Chan work in a more adult-geared movie for once. Alot of the movies Hollywood has been cranking out with him are nowheres near as good as the ones before he moved here.
has anyone seen in bruges? excellent film, its perfect dark comedy. fucks with your emotions. collin farrell is usually a prick, but he was actually really good
I just finished watching In Bruges today, the whole thing was fantastic. Wish I'd seen in last year.
Can't wait to see Let the right one in and Fears of the Dark.
Let the Right One In was really sweet and a brilliant vampire movie because it wasn't written to make tween girls wet themselves. Seriously, that's the only thing you need to do to make a good vampire flick. The rest writes itself.
In Bruges was my favourite movie of last year.

I think that goes the same for alot of films. Most movie studios can't pull of a movie "for all audiences" or just geared to one age group without dumbing it down and forcing it into a B movie.

fuckin pussies, all of the best pic nominees are safe picks. i would have loved to have seen dark knight, in bruges, or the wrestler in place of the reader and benjamin button.
they saved the riskier picks for original screenplay, just like they always do. still im happy wall E and in bruges were at least nominated there.
also slumdog deserves to be nominated but does not deserve to win. i liked the film but hated the end
Ink
Watch it in HD believe me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGeErufQdY
The story focuses on the kidnapping of a young girl by a mythical dark being and the group fighting to find her and bring her back.
The acting in the trailer is sorta iffy, but the trailer itself looks fucking great. Especially for a low-budget film.
It suppossed to premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival soon. I hope it comes close around here in Dallas.
im glad Taraji Henson got a nomination for best supporting actress. she was phenomenal. sadly, i haven't seen any of those other movies
Quote from: f0di would have loved to have seen dark knight
As highly entertaining as that film is, really? It was pretty poor as far as plot, direction and character development go. All the easy routes were taken and there was little, if any, imagination put into the movie as a whole.
I love it, but it was far from the best picture of the year. The only person who grew at all was Harvey Dent and then WHOOPS HE'S DEAD LOL!
Still, the Oscars are meaningless bullshit anyway, just like all other awards. If there was any justice at all in them, Heath Ledger would have won for Brokeback Mountain and The Golden Compass would never have even been compared to Pirates 3 or Transformers, let alone beat them for Best Visual Effects.

ok so the plot wasnt all that great. it relied too much on you having seen the first movie, not to mention having read up on philosophy.
but direction? fantastic. some of the best directed and most imaginative action sequences ive ever seen. and it took a good director to pull that great a performance out of heath ledger. i love nolan. and character development was decent at least for an action comic book film
I have a sneaking suspicion Meryl Streep will win best actress.
I really want to see Milk but they're not playing it at our theatres, and I swear to god the reasoning behind it is 'We here at regal cinemas are good christian folk' FUCK MY TOWNjnkjdkjghdf

I just got back from watching Slumdog Millionaire, and it was fantastic. It did have some sort of plot holes to it. The movie kept going since there wasn't much filler to it. It had some really disturbing parts to it too.

If anyones looking for good movies to watch there's one i saw a while back in Film Studies called "Straw Dogs", a little slow to take off but it's just so good overall. Sure the film got banned for a while for having gang rape in it but still good stuff none the less.

not good.
Heres a few to mill over.
Lets start with
The Man Who Wasn't There
First of all, I have not watched a Coen Brothers' movie which I did not enjoy, and to be honest I think this movie is best enjoyed with no knowlege of the plot. All you need to know is it is extremely dark and depressing, and although flowing in odd motions at times, its amazingly well structured. A must see really.
Time Bandits
Something I'm sure everyone has seen at one time or another, but well worth mentioning. A masterpeice by Terry Gilliam, and something that falls into the category of being both for all ages and quite apt for the mature viewer.
Brazil
Another great work by Terry Gilliam, and probably something I already mentioned here. The imagery and timing of the shots and scenes is wonderful, and it fits the twisted and confusing plot beautifully. If you enjoyed Catch 22 for its depictions of ignorance and inefficiency in the system which runs our lives, then you will love this. Weird but a good weird, a weird which cannot be replicated.
The Onion Movie
I didn't realize it existed for a long while, but when I heard of it, I had to see it. Its good, but not quite what I hoped, and in fact a little inconsistant in the degree and success of the humor used. Just like their regular reports, the skits run from tasteless to openly offensive, and from mildly humorous, drawn out, and hilarious. So its worth watching.
Also the setup is much like a mixture of the flowing and spastic plots from Tim and Eric, and the "show within a network" setup of SCTV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_City_Television). And considering they have the video section of the onion (http://www.theonion.com/content/video) up and running, I'm sure a second movie would be set up in a much more consistant form.
Quote from: mr. sweaty assFirst of all, I have not watched a Coen Brothers' movie which I did not enjoy
same
i even loved the ladykillers and the hudsucker proxy, which most people hated
at the moment my favorite coen movies are fargo and no country. o brother is also one of the best musical ive ever seen. i still need to see blood simple, raising arizona, barton fink, man who wasnt there, and burn after reading

what a lovely film that was. ive never enjoyed a twist ending as much as i enjoyed that one. i love how it goes completely insane in those last few minutes but you dont even question whats happening because the rest of the movie is so insane as it is.
i did wish bob deniro's character had a bigger role but in any case i would say brazil is probably gilliam's masterpiece. and apparently he never had a movie that went off without a hitch; he has run into more problems during production than possibly any other director. he could have been a truly iconic filmmaker if not for his bad luck... too bad
Brazil and Time Bandits are a part of this trilogy of being a man.
Time Bandits -Boy
Brazil - Man
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen - Old Man
I think all these movies bombed in the Box Office though

Yeah pretty much, making a good movies one thing, making a good movie that'll sell's a whole different ball game.

I need to watch something else by Terry Gilliam

I just watched Terminator: Salvation. Holy shit. That movie did some JUSTICE to that shitty Terminator 3! Now I'm not saying it's perfect. There were moments in the film where it looked like it skipped a scene and I wondered how the hell it went from HERE to THERE with no explanation (when you see it you'll know what I meant). The pacing also changes from moving slow to fast as fuck, or at least it felt like that to me. Seriously, I was lost a few times. The really cool part about this movie is the many different machines you'll see, all of which are pretty badass. Hell, there are even motorcycle cyborgs. There are even references to the past 3 movies. Listen to the dialogue VERY carefully to catch 'em. There are some more goodies too, but I'm not going to give them away.
Go see it when you can. I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

it was - but you mentioned a part of why it sucked, ALL the new characters. apart from buzz's villain character, the supporting cast was crap. toy story 2 was instantly worse than the original once they topped it off with a disney sing-a-long sequence "when she loved me". i still think the first toy story is pixar's best film - it's hard to tell a story that well, and without a lot of the gimmicks that were in the sequel. 2 was a good movie, but it wasn't as good as the original.
i hated 2 because of the emphasis on drama. the first one was an excellent concept executed perfectly with just the right balance of comedy and drama. i agree number 2 was waaay too disney
i liked 2 a lot i even liked jessie that song made me so sad
imo they just left it at a really bleak note
it's basically "you can't prevent the end" and that didn't make me feel very happy
regardless i really want to see number 3 now
Quote from: rtilit was - but you mentioned a part of why it sucked, ALL the new characters. apart from buzz's villain character, the supporting cast was crap.
i dunno, i really liked the fatass collector. bullseye was too much of a mascot character though and stinky pete hardly did anything.
i think the coolest part was when you get 'normal' buzz and what is essentially buzz from the first film together.

Yes. I saw it twice, on Friday and on Sunday.
It's very very good. I agree that it's Pixar's best.
Also, I'm not disappointed by the fact that they're making Toy Story 3.
Rtil, Toy Story is NOT Pixar's best film. I just watched it again yesterday, and yes the storytelling was done well, and it was really impressive when it came out not only because it was the first fully CGI film, but also because adults and children both could enjoy it, and it was a great story with awesome characters even without the fact that it was the first 3D film. However, if you look at the other Pixar movies, especially "Up," you get the same feeling as when you first saw Toy Story just because it looks simply amazing, and in "Up," the story is told even better, and the characters are far and away some of the best I've ever seen.
Up wins.
stop hyping up up

Quote“On ‘Monsters [Inc.]’, when Sulley is putting Boo back in her room, and he’s going to say goodbye to her, she hands him all these toys,” saidd Pete Docter, a director on “Up” and “Monsters,” and a writer on the “Toy Story” films. “One of them was this fish – which was Nemo – but nobody knew it at the time, because ‘[Finding] Nemo’ hadn’t come out yet. We have a similar thing [in ‘Up’].”
Quote“There’s a shot where a little girl is in her room and the house goes by,” the producer said of a seemingly simple reaction scene near the beginning of the film, in which a young girl is surprised by the flying house soaring past her bedroom. “She’s playing with her toys. She’s playing with her little plane. She gets up, and she looks [out the window]– under her bed is one of the new stars of ‘Toy Story 3’.”

QuoteHUNTINGTON BEACH – Colby Curtin, a 10-year-old with a rare form of cancer, was staying alive for one thing – a movie.
From the minute Colby saw the previews to the Disney-Pixar movie Up, she was desperate to see it. Colby had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago, said her mother, Lisa Curtin, and at the beginning of this month it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a theater to see the film.
After a family friend made frantic calls to Pixar to help grant Colby her dying wish, Pixar came to the rescue.
The company flew an employee with a DVD of Up, which is only in theaters, to the Curtins' Huntington Beach home on June 10 for a private viewing of the movie.
The animated movie begins with scenes showing the evolution of a relationship between a husband and wife. After losing his wife in old age, the now grumpy man deals with his loss by attaching thousands of balloons to his house, flying into the sky, and going on an adventure with a little boy.
Colby died about seven hours after seeing the film.
What a touching story.

QuoteHe had a bag of stuffed animals of characters in the movie and a movie poster. He shared some quirky background details of the movie and the group settled in to watch Up.
Colby couldn't see the screen because the pain kept her eyes closed so her mother gave her a play-by-play of the film.
Colby died with her mom and dad nearby at 9:20 p.m.
Among the Up memorabilia the employee gave Colby was an "adventure book" – a scrap book the main character's wife used to chronicle her journeys.
"I'll have to fill those adventures in for her," Lisa Curtin said.
wow thats probably the saddest thing i ever read.

Apart from the girl playing Alice (who i can't say much about as i have no idea who she is) the films cast does look pretty much A-grade, that being said I'm getting sick of seeing Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in all his fucking films recently! Not that they're bad actors but it wouldn't kill him to find someone else who play similar kinds of roles. Here's hoping Tim Burton doesn't make a pigs ear out of this!

What the flying fuck is this?
a perfect way to sum up everything that is wrong with imdb
obviously the gforce ad is horrible but holy fucking shit a 7.5? the first transformers was utter garbage if you exclude the flashy special fx, i cant imagine this one being anything but worse
and the transformers premiere was less than a block from my apartment, they had a fuckin linkin park concert going on. it was horrible
You should have brought a gun to the Linkin Park performance.
Up was great
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvLUrF3ItGQ
there's not enough for me to tell if it will be good or not since I never watched the show

Quote from: SashuraQuote from: anselI had to leave the theater during the G-force trailer

We had to watch it twice. In a row.
I watched Jack Brooks Monster Slayer the other day it was alright
It felt very short though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejwdhipRQJU
Also all of Charlie Kaufman's movies hes written are great great great I watched Synecdoche, New York a few nights ago and it was crazy
btw transformers 2 did slip up quite a few times
they bring in the biggest robot yet, composed of five robots, and all he does is attack the useless joke characters, fails to kill them, and climbs a pyramid. then he dies.
megatron was brought back for no reason. then he dies.
jetfire was the coolest cos he was a cranky old brit. then he combines with prime anime style and its really gay!
pretty much all the transformers from the first movie do nothing apart from shoot a couple times
fight scenes were mostly 'robots shoot each other, every 5 seconds show shia and megan running and hiding behind pillars'
they did get starscream right though!!
Quote from: lenkabiscacranky old brit.
Wouldn't be a hollywood movie without one.
I just got back from watching Transformers 2 in IMAX and fuck im dizzy
Starscream is badass
Transformers II was pretty much the prequel, but 2 hours long with more distinctive characters (Starscream, Jetfire, The Twins, and Wheels).
Quote from: lenkabiscamegatron was brought back for no reason. then he dies.
they did get starscream right though!!
It would have been better if his minions alone resurrected Megatron (that just killed his 'leader' position there).
And if there is a sequal, I wouldnt mind Starscream being more active in it (they did get it right, but he always struck me as a more treasonly character).
Quote from: j_seedI just got back from watching Transformers 2 in a regular cinema screen and fuck im dizzy
megan fox has a nice ass
yeah the only redeeming thing about transformers is megan fox
So, to sum up: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is one of the greatest achievements in the history of cinema, if not the greatest. You could easily argue that cinema, as an artform, has all been leading up to this. It will destabilize your limbic system, probably forever, and make you doubt the solidity of your surroundings. Generations of auteurs have struggled, in vain, to create a cinematic experience as overwhelming, and as liberating, as ROTF.
Women as well as men, everyone watching this film will feel the dissolution of all their certainties, all their illusory grasp on the world... but after you fall into a brazen despair that the walls of reality have become toxic ice cream of a million flavors, you will gasp with a greater realization: that once the world is reduced, forever, to a kaleidoscope of whirling shapes, you are totally free. Nothing matters, effect precedes cause, fish spawn in mid-air, and you can do whatever you want. Let yourself go in your adult diaper, Michael Bay invites you. Feel the music of total excess stir inside your deepest core. It is your Allspark, your cube. And you are a Transformer.

For once I agree with KillerDoll.
i don't if you guys heard about this, but a while ago there was a contest to see who could find R2D2 in Star Trek, he's been found
(https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthemovieblog.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2009%2F06%2Fr2d2-trek.jpg&hash=efa7da0b89fef207e1ad7916afb4c8dc81cbb679)
QuoteDuring the Drill Machine sequence as the Enterprise comes out of its barrel role amidst destruction of the other Federation ships above Vulcan, we cut to an interior Enterprise bridge over the shoulder of Kirk that is looking out through the front viewscreen. In space, R2-D2 is floating in the debris from about the top middle of the screen to the bottom right.
there's also rumors that R2D2 is in Transformers 2

Hmm, I hated Transformers 2. It was like "Ooh! Look at the explosions, KAPLOWZA, and Megan Fox's tits on a continuous dolly pan around her for 10 minutes straight." I got sick of th redundant fights after about 20 minutes and got sick of the movie itself after about a half-hour. The plot was pretty shitty, not hard-to-follow AT ALL, but just so fucking simplistic, it seemed to be written by a 12-year-old.
I just watched noroi- the curse on youtube
it's really good, as far as j-horror goes. a bit long, but the ending definitely makes up for it
oh ye i forgot who framed roger rabbit should be on my list too.
and yes flash the sequel is shitty dont ever watch it.
i have a lot of favorite movies that i know im not remembering
coraline
spirited away
triplettes de belleville
marie antionette
girl interrupted
paprika
pans labyrinth
amelie
lady and the tramp
i thought marie antoinette was great because it focused less on the french revolution and more just on HER which clears alot of things up. like everyone thinks she was such a piece of shit but she was jsut like, a young girl who got thrown on a throne and didn't know what was going on outside her palace walls. also all the little comparisons to economic crisis in the 80s like, when shes trying on shoes and the converse sneakers are sitting there or like all the old punk music they play and shit and also
it was kidna boring in some parts but it has my favorite actor in it and all the costumes and scenery were BEAUTIFULLLLLLL the way the movie was shot was great.
ok im done i needed to put that out there
Damn, I forgot about Paprika and Pans Labyrinth! Might as well add Back to the Future 1&2 and Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls to the list.
I can't really think of many movies at the moment, since I don't watch many anymore. So from what I remember...
I'm pretty sure The Theif and the Cobbler was a good movie, however, I havn't seen that movie in years, so I do not remember it all.
I'm pretty sure a billion people have already said The Dark Knight is a fantastic movie by now.
Also, I am Legend wasn't that bad.
1408 Sucked.
And for Nostalgia's sake, Batman, Return Of The Joker.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKEfoC4tvJg
Along With Heath Ledger, Mark Hammil is one hell of a Joker.
I liked Life is Beautiful
I just came home from watching Moon and I think it's the best movie I've seen this year but this year has really been full of shit lately

lmao sorry i have to make a pretentious film schooly response
i HATED that movie. several reasons. sophia coppolla is not a great director, she's too overindulgent. it felt like half the movie was wasted showing all of kirsten dunst's dumb every day rituals and the various puppy/candy/shoe montages. shots lingered for too long, i know it was an artistic choice but it made things very slow and boring even if the cinematography was nice. also if im watching a period piece i want to be immersed in the time period and story, and the modern music took me completely out of it regardless of what its symbolic meaning was. bad unconvincing acting... kirsten dunst didnt make me feel sympathy at all, she made me hate her. jason schwartzman is painful every moment hes on screen.. that was probably also the filmmaker's intention, but that doesnt make it any less unpleasant to watch.
if im watching a drama i need to feel for the characters and what's happening to them. i felt nothing but a desire to see their heads cut off, which
doesnt even happen at the end, they just leave the palace and thats it... i was like "no fucking guillotine? why did i just pay to see this movie then?"
keep in mind im biased cuz i saw this movie on a date and we both agreed afterwards that we fuckin hated it. i go on a lot of dates like that, movies that neither of us like... it doesnt end well. same thing happened with babel and quantum of solace
kind of a dumb move to see a sophia coppolla film for a date
i'm glad it didn't have a hollywood ending and you're not really supposed to feel sympathetic for a woman that almost single-handedly destroyed france
i guess that was my problem with it, too ambiguous
but nothing tops babel on the horrible date movies list
i wish i could write something that goes beyond 'i liked it' or 'it was good' but i don't think i can
you are correct that was a pretentious response !!!!!!
lmao i did say the movie was boring in alot of parts didn't I? I think I did. I liked how pretty the movie was though.
actually everything you said wasn't relevant to anything i said so there is no argument here goodday f0d how r u

saw bruno tonight. it doesn't have the charm that borat did - but that's because borat's antics were innocent. bruno is a different kind of character, but he's still hilarious and offensive in every way. it's not even an hour and a half but it feels a lot longer than that. not only was it funny but it points out the ridiculousness of a lot of american stereotypes and ignorance. i thought it was brilliant. although i am (pleasantly) surprised it has an R rating - i'm not sure how they convinced the censors. apparantly they had to cut one scene to keep it, and after you see the movie you're going to wonder what could be more crude than what they had already showed in the movie
I worked at Blockbuster and my friend came in with this girl and asked me what were good movies. And I recommended Babel. Later on I find out that he wanted date movies and he was very mad at me!

I agree. I can't really compare Borat to Brüno though. In Brüno, everything looked a lot more planned in my opinion, in Borat, most of the stuff just "happened".
For the trailers for Bruno I had no idea what it was going to be about at least with Borat I had a vague idea on what the plot was going to be but for Bruno it looked like a bunch of sketches put together.
Hopefully when I see it tonight ill be able to see if its as good or not
in the show i never found bruno funny but i trust my bff ryan and im sure its good
Quote from: squfarQuote from: f0d(keep in mind the date was with an asian girl)

how did u know!
borat is similar to bruno structure-wise. it's mostly a series of scripted and non-scripted sketches put together to play on with the story. in this movie, bruno is trying to become a superstar in LA
after being blacklisted in europe for crashing a fashion show
, and after a while he thinks the only way to do that is
to become straight
.
my buddy who saw a sneak peek of bruno said it was worse than borat because it crossed the line from outrageously funny to outrageously wrong... its a fine line
he still liked it though and hes crazy conservative

I saw "Public Enemies" with a friend last night since it was the only movie that we didn't have a VERY negative opinion of... Meh, it was alright. I'm not sure how much I truly liked it though since I was in a daze the first 30 minutes.

christian bales accent was the most entertaining thing
also i liked how that french actress slipped up on her american accent when she started crying

What the fuck? How? WHY?
Just saw Waltz with Bashir. It completely changed the kind of cartoons I want to make.
when i play fetch with my dog i think of snow plows
public enemies sucked
it was like a shitty version of heat
and it was also a classic case of why imo 99% of period pieces suck
they spend all their effort trying to get the feel of the period and forget the fucking narrative
it was also an example of why true story movies suck
they did kill dumbledore at the end
and the movie was actually good
thats a first for harry potter movies
the only differences were pretty minor and helena bonham carter was amazing
i actually jumped when an infiri's arm shot out of the water in that cave and i actually laughed when they made a few jokes and i actually felt sad when dumbledore died
im kind of surprised that it was PG and not PG13 since a bunch of little kids in the front of the theater were crying and screaming 'im scared' from the beginning
the special effects were really nice

mmm the books are so good especially when voldermort and hermoine get married and have 17 wizard kids
it was ok and the acting was better than the others
Also the special effects, scenery and directing were very very good.
They missed something in the last few scenes for sure but yeah
I'm getting sick of daniel radcliffe doing that thing with his lips and staring into space

ps can you bring up a valid argument against it
i want to hear this from you danny since you usually have good reasons!!!
Quote from: Billyand that shitty nihilist ending they tacked on that wasn't in the story was great too
stephen king has said that if he had thought of the ending he would have used it
he likes the ending
yeah its better than just driving out in to the mist and maybe hearing something on the radio like in the book
i enjoyed harry potter 6 but it had some MASSIVE plot problems
what were the plot problems
Quote from: cujops can you bring up a valid argument against it
i want to hear this from you danny since you usually have good reasons!!!
well heres a few reasons i didnt enjoy it... there are spoilers here but honestly theres nothin much to spoil
first issue: the characters were all stereotypical horror movie characters. of course there's gonna be a crazy religious fanatic screaming "the world is ending" and of course there's gonna be the logical smart guy whose like "now calm down theres a perfectly good explanation for this" and then of course the logical smart guy eats his words when paranormal shit starts happening and the crazy bitch takes advantage of it. not to mention the creepy kid, what horror film is complete without a creepy kid. cliches like that make me hate the characters. if i hate the characters, i dont care what happens to them. the suspense is gone.
second issue: the monsters were somewhat scary... until you actually saw them. the real horror should have lied in what you could NOT see, like the beginning scenes when the guy dies off screen and they can only hear it. the mist could have also been a brilliant storytelling device for hiding some sinister secret or big twist, but the explanation at the end felt just plain stupid. when the rationale of your film is that the government accidentally opened a parallel dimension, your whole concept is a cop out. as soon as a bunch of stupid tentacles and giant instincts started popping into the store, the fear was completely gone
think of the movie "alien.." the whole time you're just dreading every second wondering what the monster looks like. when you finally do see it, it doesnt disappoint because its appearance is brief and spectacular. had they done this with the mist and added a twist that wasnt a total copout i would have probably enjoyed it.
ohh also a different lead actor than thomas jane would have been nice
yes i can see your points
the explanation for the monsters is a lot cooler if youve read stephen kings dark tower series though
it explains it there in an awesome way
but yes those are perfectly reasonable arguments thank you for not being billy!
Quote from: cujowhat were the plot problems
2 huge ones were
1) Hogsworth (i think that's his name) has this knowledge of something that could help Dumbledore and everyone else defeat Voldemort, and the whole time Dumbledore justs asks Harry to get him to spill the beans and wait 'till the last minute to learn something important about who they're fighting. fuck that, if these people care about saving their world, someone would put a wand to Hogsworth's head and tell him to fucking tell them what he knows.
2) Dumbledore acts suprised, he actually acts SUPRISED that Voldemort has been using horocrux's this entire time. he clearly knows what it is before hand and doesn't make a connection that a horocrux is something a dark wizard would use and that Voldemort is a dark wizard that has remained alive even after the sorrcerror's stone and old diary have been destroyed. are you serious?
other plot holes
1) then, as soon as Dumbledore gets his head out of his ass and finds out that Voldemort is using a horocrux is, he knows where a horocrux is? it doesn't matter if they explain it in the book, the movie has to stand on its own.
2) then when they get to the cave that has the horocrux, it's somehow a problem to get across a pond to get to it? they can fly across the fucking world with dumbledore's arm, and if that's a hassle, use a broomstick. and the only thing stoping them from getting the horocrux is a stupid elixer and some small skinny demons, really? a 3 headed dog was gaurding the sorccerror's stone and yet Voldemort doesn't think a powerful wizard that can a) bring another person with him and wipe they shit out of the little monsters with a firestorm would ever try to get his horocrux.
3) Malfoy is still going to the school?! no one is ever going to think that a son of deatheater is going to fuck them over, no one is even keeping an eye on him.
4) no one, in all their plans to make the school safe, ever think to get rid of the vanishing cabinet that can bring in people from OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL?
give me a break, how HP6 is getting all these good reviews is beyond me, the only thing that made enjoy it was Ron's crazy girlfriend and the scene where Hermonie is all flustered and can't make the potion.
oh and they really dropped the ball on Dumbledore's death
Quote from: cujoyes i can see your points

well first of all i want your dog's vagina more than anything right now

it really sounds like you never rread the book which kinda explained most of your gripes even though it was quite grazed over in the movie
but certainly if you didn't read the book what you said makes sense and is pret true, I dunno maybe they should have shown them swimming or explain the magical corpses can only be killed with fire or the big fight at the end which i really was dissapointed in not seeing
I sort of take it as what they expect you to know rather than what they newly make
Hogsworth = Horace Slughorn
I saw Harry Potter last night, I liked it... Except every character had so many love interests throughout the movie. They could trimmed out a bit of that crap, but otherwise, it was enjoyable.

It was ok...movie-wise. I have no idea how the hell they're going to explain all the shit they left out that leads up to the finale. The only thing I liked about the movie was how, eh, "grown up" the characters are. What I mean is this: Harry fucking bitches and whines and acts all emo-shit throughout the books. We don't see any of this in the movie. Also the actor who played Malfoy stood out the most in the movie. His performance was fantastic! To be able to portray Malfoy's frustration and stress was just...wow. Stunning! All in all the movie was just
ok.
Malfoy is going to have gray hair soon. He\\\'s looking old. Also, at toonmore, kind of wrong on most accounts. The philosopher\\\'s stone was not a horcrux. But I see your points.

i just assumed that when dumbledore found out something 'clicked' and he finally realised what he had to do
Quote from: Toonmoregive me a break, how HP6 is getting all these good reviews is beyond me
Because it broke the mould of the other films somewhat and was really, really well directed. it was dark and moody but it didnt feel forced, unlike spiderman 3 which was a huge bag of shit full of pointless drama and 'edgy' scenarios. im glad that snape's clan just fucked off instead of having an 'omg epic battle'. added to the quiet/calm before the storm feel of the film.
I saw HP6 2 days ago and I thought it was really boring. I think the big problem is I don't give a fuck about any of the characters. I haven't invested any emotion over the previous books/films
Quote from: BillyI think the big problem is I don't give a fuck about any of the characters.
this is a problem for me with most films. there is nothing to keep me watching unless there is a character who i care about. i dont care about the harry potter characters because i feel like i could only relate to them when i was a preteen. i havent watched a single one of the films
one interesting thing they said in my screenwriting class was never make a character cry, or the audience will lose sympathy for them. you're supposed to have something horrible happen to them, then force the character to internalize the pain and allow it to come through only in their expression or a gesture. this will make the audience cry a lot quicker than an overblown melodramatic "crying" scene
for instance has anyone seen the wrestler? i probably already mentioned it in this thread but it was an amazing film because you literally felt mickey rourke's pain. everything he feels, you feel. if youve seen the film, the most powerful scene is the one with the nintendo. ive never in my life cried during a film, but that was one of the saddest things ive ever seen, simply because they held on the shot of mickey rourke sitting there alone after the kid leaves. now thats great filmmaking
i love you beth cooper was bad if you didnt guess dont see it ok

but in context of course because he built up the hyper macho image the whole film
and it only worked cuz it was subtle, if he had been bawling his eyes out the entire time it wouldnt have been as sad. think sean penn in mystic river when he finds out his daughter is dead... overacting at its absolute worst

I just watched Rocky I-VI and Rambo I-IV
fucking amazing movies
just saw the hurt locker the other day, and i gotta say, i really enjoyed it. not your typical war movie, imo, had a pretty gritty, suspenseful feel throughout the whole thing, very good.
one scene that really stuck with me was when the main guy goes home and there's this stark contrast between the two vastly different lifestyles. this one segment had the fellow grocery shopping and looking at hundreds of different cereal boxes, just trying to make a choice. it's just a few seconds long but i would go back to see it again just for that little bit.
just watched snatch
it was fun to watch i guess but nowhere near as good as i thought it was gonna be
then again it came out before a slew of movies that copied its style so i will give it props for innovation... although requiem for a dream beat them to the punch with the fancy editing and cinematography
want to watch 500 days of summer soon, anyone seen it yet?
Quote from: psi43I just watched Rocky I-VI and Rambo I-IV

only rocky I and VI are good and only Rambo I is good although IV is ok
I saw The Taking of Pelham 123, it was alot better then i thought it would be. Denzel was on form as usual and even Travolta (whom i usually hate) put on a good show. The plot didn't feel too farfetched (for a hostage/thriller film) and it's not the best thing you'll ever see, but it's definately worth watching.

2010 or 2011 is when it gets out i think.
I'm also looking forward to Sylvester Stallone's new movie The Expendables. It'll be out in April 2010 I think. A lot of big names like schwarzenegger will be in the movie, and it's supposed to be like these old action movies (terminator etc.)
I also just finished watching Ponyo. The movie is really great. Sadly it kind of lacks a climax in my opinion and it's really weird to me that nobody in the movie is creeped the fuck out by Ponyo. They just 'accept' it.
Oh well, nevertheless, great movie.
I also just got the Hannibal Pentalogy. I watched Silence of the Lambs first, cause I thought it was the first movie though.

saw ponyo tonight!
the theater was packed..at 9:30PM. the audience consisted almost entirely of adults, almost no kids. that was pretty cool, considering district 9 is stealing the show this weekend.
some good news they DON\\\'T use that horrible autotuned pop song we discovered this week. the credits song is almost identical to the japanese version besides the language, and the movie has its original score intact. the english dub is also well done. some of the dialogue is too "awkward" for english audiences, but kids won\\\'t care. it\\\'s definitely in the spirit of more child-like ghibli films, a simple and light hearted story. i was smiling the whole time. even if you\\\'ve already seen it/pirated it, go see it in the theaters and support it. otherwise we may not see another ghibli movie with such a wide theater release ever again.
oh, and of course the animation/layouts/colors were amazing but that goes without saying. i can\\\'t believe some of the stuff they animated in the underwater scenes, so much going on it was insane. i got the impression the audience was a little starstruck by the complexity in such a simple film. most people have that idea in their heads that 2D is old and irrelevant, i hope ponyo changed their minds.

awesome, you won't regret it
also, i did not stay past most of the credits, so there's a possibility that horrible pop song is at the end of the original credits song, but by that time most people have left so they wont have their eardrums assaulted by disney's pop monstrosity

well i dont think you interpreted the characters well at all
or are just overly cynical
1. i dont see many religious fanatics in horror movies, but i dont watch that many of them anyway!!!
2. you never see the logical cave in and "eat his words", he just dies
3. the kid isnt creepy (at all)
i think you were biased when watching the movie, expecting it to be something it isnt
Quote from: f0dsecond issue: the monsters were somewhat scary... until you actually saw them. the real horror should have lied in what you could NOT see, like the beginning scenes when the guy dies off screen and they can only hear it. the mist could have also been a brilliant storytelling device for hiding some sinister secret or big twist, but the explanation at the end felt just plain stupid. when the rationale of your film is that the government accidentally opened a parallel dimension, your whole concept is a cop out. as soon as a bunch of stupid tentacles and giant instincts started popping into the store, the fear was completely gone
ohh also a different lead actor than thomas jane would have been nice
i think you're misinterpreting the movie here too
the most frightening things about the monsters were that you knew so little about them, and if there were others that you never saw at all
probably the coolest scene in the movie was when they were driving away and that gigantic monster (described in the book as so big that it made a 'blue whale look like a trout'). thats when you realize that they were LUCKY to have the monsters that they had, and there was a seeminlgy infinite amount creatures that were all equally menacing (except in the book there was a kite monster, but thats just stephen king being a fuckin weirdo)
but even more, the point of the movies isnt even the monsters. the movie isnt even a horror film imo. its not about being scary, the whole point was that the people in the store were scared, and someone used that fear in order tocontrol them. its like an anti-religion movie, the monsters could have been anything. it could have just been the mafia outside that was scaring the people, either way, it was about people's inability to accept fate and the truth and using religion bullshit yadda yadda etc fuck you
you're entitled to your own opinions and im not saying that there were not major flaws in the movie as well as bad acting and stupid "action" parts that fucked it up (like the old woman that killed the spider thing with hairspray and her torch, really in the book she just sprays it with hairspray and it doesnt die), but really the whole point is to convey a message while having some interesting creatures and stuff on the way, which is why it's different than most horror films
ok i made some typos from talking too fast
1. i was talking about the logical GUY eating his words
2. the monsters aren't equally menacing, there are some that are much more dangerous thano thers (i dont know why i said that)
and also i wanted to make th point that nobody really knows, in the book or the movie, what causes the mist
some say it was the government, some say its scientist and a parallel universe
the point is that nobody really knows and that it doesnt matter what the cause is, because it's happening and they have to deal with it somehow

i didnt think the message was strong, i didnt think the creatures were interesting, and i didnt find it at all different than most horror films, and ive seen a lot of horror films. mostly the group dynamic reminded me of dawn of the dead or other movies like that where people are trapped by surrounding monsters and go crazy
im sure it would be better if i had read the book because then id want to see the filmmaker visualize the story i had just read, plus maybe id understand the creatures better because of their backstory, but bottom line the film didnt stand on its own very well at all IMO
one thing i will agree with the kid wasnt creepy but kid actors in general just usually tend to be so bad that it creeps me out
Man I just watched Apocalypse Now with a friend. It isn't scary, but damn, did it ever give me the chills when I was driving him home after.

it takes place during the vietnam war, but i think its actually supposed to be based on a book called Heart of Darkness, which takes place in Africa's ivory coast. kind of a shitty book, but the movie is really good. its about an officer who is given secret orders to go into the jungle to kill another officer who has set up his own army of soldiers and local tribesmen, and is also batshit insane. it gets really creepy at some parts
Yeah it's not a scary film or anything, but it's one of those films where after you finish watching it, it stays with you for a while.
And then I found out that water buffalo they killed off at the end was real. Imagine if that happened today.
Apocalypse Now is great. The last bit in the tribe is really trippy and weird though.
I saw Up this week (it's a long wait for some movies over here). Pretty amazing movie. Pixar just keeps getting better every year.

i fuckin love apocalypse now, ive seen it tons of times. definitely one of my favorites. the guy who made apocalypse now went to my film school. watching the movie is kinda like slowly descending into insanity for a few hours
i highly recommend the movie "hearts of darkness" which is the documentary that francis ford coppolla's wife made about the making of the film... it makes you look at the movie in a whole new light. tons crazy shit happened on set. everyone in the entire crew was high on weed, acid, and speed at all times during the shoot, including the director. the cow murder scene was real because they simply rolled camera when the tribe (which was real) prepared one of their meals. the helicopter attack scene was done using the real cambodian air force helicopter fleet, and they got called off to fight an actual battle during the middle of shooting. also the scene where martin sheen punches the mirror, none of the blood was fake and when he was crying he was actually cussing out the director. he also had a heart attack a few days after that scene and almost died. lmao and lawrence fishburn was like 14 years old during filming
Apocalypse Now is a very very good movie
lmao damn i need to make a movie called "50" before someone else does

yep
so today I saw Inglourious Basterds and District 9
i loved IB but the trailers are kind of misleading, it's only half about the basterds themselves and is actually mostly tense dialogue scenes interrupted with sudden, horrific violence. it was still great, but when a trailer promises me a movie about running around france beating natzee skulls in that's what i expect to see
d9 was also pretty good but it kind of lost its direction and the whole documentary-style shooting wore out its welcome pretty fast, IMO
Quote from: callahanyeah i love inglorious basterds but i really would have loved to see like a four hour version with the kind of things i expected and some gay basterd murdering action
i mean most of the basterds only got like 1 line
yeah for real
i love bj novak but he only spoke like twice
that's like the k-19 widowmaker trailers made it seem like a high tension underseas action movie but it was really wasn't
still good though

has anyone ever heard of a japanese movie that came out in 2004 called dare mo shiranai? i've heard the soundtrack which is really nice, but i haven't heard much about the movie itself except that its really grisly

hey now, BRO
A puppy is not just for christmas
I got the pleasure of seeing Quentin Tarintino's new film, Inglourious Basterds today. I gotta say, I really liked it. It was pretty out there for a nazi movie, to the point of altering the course of history. Uh,
like them brutally killing Hitler in a fury of machine gun ammo and in a burning, then exploding movie theater
, cough cough. That's all I'll say about that, but it had plenty of ridiculously-violent killing (and scalping) which is a staple of Quentin Tarintino's work. Even though the movie builds veryyy slowly in it's 2.5 hour length, it never gets boring surprisingly enough. There's just enough tension between characters to keep it really interesting. Anyway, it might not be a liot of people's cup-of-tea, but I freaking liked it!
it is also for when it has rolled in its own feces
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbLgszfXTAY
i hate that hollywood made this movie look like a standard fucking blockbuster action movie FUCK HOLLYWOOD
in actuality you never actually see why the earth is the post apocalyptic mess that it is in the novel
why couldn\'t they make the trailer for this movie cool like the trailer for no coutnry for old men was
im sure the trailer is misleading like most movies and that hte movie will be good or better but right now the trailer made it look like a big heaping piece of shit

QuoteFrom what we have seen, we are amazed by the visual similarities between the two films and we are reviewing what legal options may be available to us. Delgo is an independent film that took over a decade from conception to release. The initial proof-of-concept was available on Delgo.com in 1998 with work-in-progress from the feature production accessible via the website's Digital Dailies since 2000. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avatar began production in 2006 after a rewrite of the script.
who cars
i am only amazed by the fact that avatar managed to make something uglier than delgo
the future DEPENDS ON US
i was expecting a lot from avatar. like another Matrix or something
when i saw the trailer i was shocked at how something nearly two decades in development could be so generic and uninteresting (not to mention done a million times before)
cameron said he was waiting for the technology to be available to tell his story? then why does it look like avatar was made circa 1999?

i do not love 'Tales from Earthsea' which has just been on TV. its not just the most boring and generic ghibli film, its probably one of the most boring and generic anime films period. barely anything stood out and even the characters seem bored. it also takes like a full hour to get to the main plot (wizard is bad omg)
after seeing it its def. one of those films that only got watched because of the people who made it (Ghibli)

pretty much yeah. there's a ton of musical numbers. but from what i have seen (about 15 minutes' worth), it's pretty damn entertaining. my favorite character is the alligator
Its really nice to see disney give another shot at the classic storytelling and filmmaking that made it really really good a few years ago.
I do believe a couple of the latest disney movies have been really bad/dissapointing (home on the range), and I dont understand why do they make pointless sequels for home video and dvd.
I feel this movie will be diferent, I will definitelly get me a tickit when it comes out
yeah, we saw a bit of it at comic con and I gotta say it looks a hell of a lot better than anything Disney has shit out recently

QuoteAccording to a twitter post from comic artist Jock that was scooped up by MTV Splash Page with almost zero context, Alex Garland is going to be writing the new Judge Dredd that for some reasons is being made during our lifetime. Garland wrote both 28 Days Later and Sunshine while Boyle directed, so the pairing seems perfectly natural.

Yeah thats the general Disney thing, its heroes tend to be teenage/early twenties and generally 'good looking'. if they're an animal they're generally boring to look at and dont really have anything distinctive (Simba). Their villains however always have fucking incredible design (Hades, Ursula, Scar, Jafar)
obviously there are exceptions (Quasimodo, Kuzco), but a lot of Disney lead males and females pretty much have the exact same body type
It sorta reminds me of RPGs, the cooler looking characters are never the lead male/female (like how Crono and Marle are just a regular boy and girl respectively, yet they're joined by a fucking talking frogman with a sword, a robot, and a cavewoman etc)

Second of all Cloverfield sucked dick in every regard and it\\\'s basically death porn for kids since it\\\'s just a bunch of assholes improbably holding the camera at all times and everyone dies. It would have been awesome if they downplayed the whole guy waving the camera around all the time as if it works better when you give it a good shake, and the protagonists did SOMETHING worthwhile. yeah, one of the big problems is it was rated PG-13, so instead of saying "fuck, what the fuck is that?!" like in real life, they just say "oh my god, oh my god!"
the monster looked awful too, i remember seeing concept designs that looked ten times better
wow fuck you
that movie had the best monster designs since hellboy

after seeing what clover COULD have been i was majorly dissapointed
frog thing with claws just didnt do it for me after seeing a fuckin whale leviathan with legs
concepts are usually always better than the final product, i can't think of something off the top of my head where every conceptual idea made it to final
Quote from: lenkabiscafrog thing with claws just didnt do it for me after seeing a fuckin whale leviathan with legs
that whale thing was ripped off a fuckin final fantasy boss
clover looks like nothing anyone made before. like a grotesque bat/monkey creature.
seeing as we're arguing about film monsters
which is everyones fave
doesnt have to be a major one (Godzilla/Clover/King Kong) or even 'city sized' for that matter

yeah. like this monster is a wuzz and he can barely walk but whoa its scary as fuckin shit.
but that particular scene has a horror movie cliche that often bothers me.
like I hate those "scary scenes" in wich the character is slowly approached by a monster walking behind him then turns around right in the moment just to realize theres a fuckin monster and hes too close and it is too late to escape

its an independent film with paul giamatti starring in it
Its considered to be a "comedy" but it had moments that were very haunting, beautiful, and sad. Its a very bizarre movie, but its really fucking fantastic
i was thinkin of goin to see it but it reminded me of someone trying to imitate charlie kaufman's writing but ill see it because paul giamatti is an amazing actor
Whenever i hear J-seed talking about movies, that make me think that he's gay i don't even know why i think this...
yeah FUCK YOU jseend
i recently watched extreme movie (has nothing to do with scary movie, date movie etc) and it's pretty nice and original. I liked it.
did anyone see A Serious Man yet
i do not want to see it in theaters because it looks too bleak and depressing
depressing movies are for better at home for some reason
hey what if
saw "paranormal activity" tonight. it's starting to pop up in theaters all around here. it didn't scare me, but i haven't been scared by a horror movie since 2001 when i first started watching them. however, it was pretty creepy and they did a good job with the editing. no cheap jumps with music - in fact, no music at all. no cheesy 3d. the characters are dumb as bricks though, and the ending is lackluster. it left me wanting more, but that's the first horror film to do that for me in years.
I finished watching this after hearing about it during comic con

Apparently this movie was being made for quite a while, so I wanted to check it out.
It's not terribly scary but I was still very entertained and it can be very funny.
It's 4 stories that intertwine together, about the killer in the poster, another about a bus massacre, elementary school principle and a vampire looking for a young 22 year old. It's funny how all the stories come together with little twists here and there. The acting was pretty good, I didn't cringe at any parts. I really hope for a sequel if allowed.
Some parts will actually surprise you the entire time I thought that I could tell what was going to happen next but it surprised me most of the time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPRZeExciGo
you actually get to see andy's mom's face !!! like wow
that first part looked very sad
That looks like it'll actually be really good
that first part of the video makes andy look like the kid who has all the fancy toys and doesnt share them with other kids
who is kang jangalang
that's just eman pay no mind
I watched 3 movies today
Rasing Arizona is really fucking great movie with such good charm. It left me smiling once it ended.
Doubt was well goddamn acted and written. I wish I caught it in theaters when it was out.
Goliath:

It has a few laughs in it but mostly it was very emotional about a man having the worst time of his life. The ending is very strong and I'd say check it out it's pretty good.
