hey hey dudes

well I drew that pic recently, took me awhile, because Im a freak and I spend tons of time on my lineart (100% done in flash) and then on my colors (100% done in PS).

I was curious to ask how you guys handled the coloring for your pix, if you have any tips to color and stuff ^^

I mean my abilities are quite limited in the way I only use 2 layers and 2 brushes to color so yeaz

i like the samurai and the cube people. the samurai has nice flow to his body, and the cube guys are just appealing designs. the linework is clean, however it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. you have lines going from extreme thicks to almost invisible thins for no real reasons, and i'm losing a lot of form because of it. otherwise, it's a nice collage.

I like doing that though, I like having lines thickening in places they shouldnt ^^ I dunno I think it gives it a more dynamic feeling ... dunno Xd

haha, well what i meant by collage is that there's a bunch of characters scattered all over it.

I really like the use of color! Times like this I wish I could use photoshop

I might make a tutorial one day if pple are interested in it ;o

oh yeah, you also asked about how other people color. i might as well share the way i typically do it. i usually cel-shade, and what i do is have a gradient for each block of color. in most cases, the gradient is a lighter and darker shade between each tone. you can usually tell the difference on the pic, but not the color picker, so the difference is subtle but there enough taht you can see it in the pic. i lay the gradient over the picture so that the darkest and lightest tones from either side of the gradient hit eachother. that's it in a nutshell, i'd have  to go over it in more detail for it to make any real sense. but if you look @ a pic of mine you might see what i'm talking about.

And damn, I wish I could colour like that in Photoshop.  It's an interesting piece, and I the style of lineart you use almost seems, to me anyway, like it's giving the characters more movement.

I just noticed, i love that flamey guy, he looks all "ready for duty, and glad to be on fire" it awesome.

his right hand and left leg look a little strange to me and the shadows look kinda shitty but overall it's pretty good

i never have the patience to work in colored pencils so kudos there

and yeah the faces are meant to look like sqeezy's. these are chars that should appear in a project we're both working on, and I tried homogenizing our style so we could keep some consistency in our animation. its still hard though, because I tend to draw chars a lot in my own way ..
