(this is a true story about my last job, ok?)
It was early in the spring when i decided to go, to work up in the woods in north Ontario
The unemployment office said they'd send me through
To the little Abitibi with the survey crew

He was the captain of our crew. And he said "I'm gonna tell you boys what we're gonna do. They want us to build a power dam so we gotta find a way, to make the river Abitbi flow around the other way.
So we surveyed to the east:

And we really couldn't find a way how to do it best. 'Oh Abitibi' I thought, 'what shall I do?' Cause I had just about had it with our survey crew and the black flies. All these little black flies. All of these black flies no matter I go. I thought I'd die with those black flies picking my bones in North Ontario io. In North Ontario.
There were seriously black flies everywhere. Crawling in my beard and crawling in my hair.

Those devilish insects wouldnt let me be. Black Toby was getting pissed because the work was slow.
And the state of our morale was getting pretty low. (in short, we were depressed).

And the flies had heavy swarms. It was hard to catch your breath. You'd walk up and down the job site talking to yourself.
It wasn't all bad though! Because we had Joe with us.
Now our cook's name Blind River Joe. If it hadn't been for him we would have never gotten through:

He bandaged up our wounds and he joked with us for fun. And he lathered us with bacon grease and balsam gum for those damn black flies. Those little black gnats. How we all loathed them. Those tiny flying rats. We would have died with those black flies picking at our bones in North Ontario io. In North Ontario.
