Mouse, specifically school mouse. I can use my mouse fine for work but our schools mice are horrible!

Anyway Im probably gonna postin a lot of my bored school work in this forum. Whenever I make somethin nice Ill post it here too though

hmm. well, the faces are great. even though you're working on an unfamiliar mouse i'll give my advice anyway.the line consistency is bad. and i know it's because you drew them straight out with flash's auto-smoothing brush that makes the lines that way, but if you like any of these it'd be cool to go back over them and fix all the line inconsistency to strengthen the expressions

Its good but flash's smooth feature really killed it. I suggest you try using paint.
You could also try making the outside lines thicker if you want.

I draw during lectures but I'm always paying attention.
I guess I'm good at multi tasking. New teachers always think I'm writing notes and they're like "HEY YOU REPEAT WHAT I JUST SAID"
and I do and then they shut up

While it is true that Ive always focused on the face in my drawings, I didnt think too many of the arms were bad even for sketches.

I think some of the hands are a bit sloppy though!

i was the same as you in high school bcube, i used to doodle constantly during class and drive my teachers nuts. i drew shit all over the tables, all over my binders, all over my notebooks, and in the margins on the sides of my homework. my teachers would yell at me to stop, force me to stay after class and clean up the tables, etc. but it never made a difference, i still paid attention

This, but i don't think my teachers even give a shit anymore.
They walk right pass me, looking at my paper without a care.
As long as I keep a A - B average, I'm not stopping any time soon.

i liked the sketch a lot better

this could use more refinement

a good way to start a painting is to use a selection tool to block out major sections of color. then add halftones and blend if you think it would look good. save highlights for last. also it's good to pick an area of high contrast - the place of highest contrast should be where you want people to look

If you could explain to me by what you mean with halftones Id be appreciative!

Also by blending do you mean using the smudge tool?

I am a photoshop newbian
Title: CoolDr's Art thread
Post by: rtil on November 14, 2008 06:19 AM
halftones as in darker shades of the main tone for lighting

and by blending i mean using a soft brush and starting to pick where your hard and soft edges should be for coloring, basically going from something you would make in flash (graphic style) to a more painterly style. but that's a stylistic choice

i would avoid the smudge tool as most things i see with it are crap, but some people like blvd use it very well

i meant it looked weird for a traditional piece because it looks digitized. but now that you have said it's digital, it makes more sense.

this is pretty good, i think the step up goes way too fast though, there's no anticipation for such a quick push up like that. i think it could be a lot slower and that might feel even more menacing.

Thanks 4 all the feedback dudes! its always welcome here except when I draw with a mouse!

This next one is important. This is basically what I have so far. Im redoing it for a final project that I have a couple weeks on.

This is another 3D animation. Tell me anything I should improve on preferably in an order of most necessary to least. I'm pleading for constructive criticism here. What's its biggest flaws? Even the minor ones. I just have a time frame to keep in mind thats why I was the biggest problems to come first.

well i liked the premise, kinda disappointed the characters didnt really have faces and that the guy couldnt talk. i think it would have helped a lot to be able to add facial expressions and such to them. but i know rigs take forever and you were probably on a huge time constraint considering the fact there were no textures

Pretty much. Was workin 3 jobs n shit. Even with no textures/facial rigging, my project was still 2 hours late. After pulling 2 all nighters in a row the night before.

So mostly just wanted to focus on the animation of the characters. But uhh even that I had to take some shortcuts with. Learned a whole bunch though about wire deformers, controllers, and blend shapes!

Muscle studies. Free pizza point to the first one who guesses all 5 different mediums I used! (A different medium is used for the arm, leg, back torso, front torso, and body)

Bunch of greek sculpture I had to draw fairly quickly

Now this one I would really appreciate some feedback on. I need to learn so much more with colors (Also part of it was me running out of time for the deadline). I took a sculpture from the renaissance and put him in modern times. Turned him into a raver. But as you can see, the color leaves much to be desired for. Was thinking of redoing this one in photoshop/corel painter. Any suggestions?

well its certainly colorful, not too sure abou tthe composition and the use of black. might be cooler to see him from top-down instead of straight on with a lot of awkward empty space between him, the 2 other people and the blobby crowd in the background

huh...that could work. For the class I wanted to make sure it was very recognizable as the Roman figure statue I was reproducing. But a different angle might work. You think the whole roman statue thing might be lost in the process however? Because then it would just be a picture of some random rave

well it could work from that angle but it just feels flat and the lighting is inconsistent. also i think a roman statue would look out of place in a rave. unless you meant you're going for the contraposto pose

I was just putting this statue in a modern environment. Like old meets new

So all this time I didn't know there was a way to control the opacity of a brush in Photoshop with pen sensitivity. I just found out how to do it and practiced by remaking an old drawing. I'm stoked! Gonna be releasing a lot more digital stuff now.

For reference, Old drawing from flash:
