Title: Creating a website
Post by: Loathsome on April 11, 2008 02:36 PM
I'm creating a website that's going to be built up in flash.

1. I need to know if there is any actionscript that loads parts of the flash. So that if I press a "flash" link for instance the flash part of the swf loads when the link is pressed. Like a preloader. That way I don't have to create more than one swf for the website.

2. Could you tell or link me to a tutorial of how to make a scroll? This will be useful for news and so on at the first page and also for scrolling through animation thumbnails, etc.

3. If you have any idea of how I could display my art on the website please suggest a way to do it. Because I have no idea so far.

Thank you.

PS: I don't know where I was going to post this topic, if it's posted in a wrong section, please move it.

oh boy. i'm not very good with flash web content. personally i would never make a site out of flash, it's very difficult to do it well and do it right. but i'll try to help as far as my knowledge goes on this subject:
1. i doubt it, since flash automatically tries to load its entire library in the background. what you could do is have your main site refer to external SWF's and load them inside movieclips. this can be done very easily, although i don't know the code off the top of my head.
2. flash has a bunch of premade assets for scrollbars, i'm sure you can replace their graphic symbols. not sure how to use them, though.
3. there are a lot of freeware flash galleries available to web designers. i'm sure if you did some searching you could find one that suits you.

again, personal preference, i would never make a site in flash. since flash is designed for 'animated' content for the web, and i don't really like sites that have a bunch of things moving around. i prefer a clean design over a flashy one

Thank you.

And also, I'd like it clean too but I can't do that because I don't know anything about html or any other kind of coding.

edit: where can I find that scroll thing in flash? I've never found any of this.

Actually, it is possible to do that. I don't really know how but I've seen lots of games on NG that load the game really fast and then take a little longer to load the levels. I have no idea how it's done though.

Also Loathsome, get Dreamweaver CS3 and create a website, I did that, too with my DoReMi website. Here it is (http://thebackalleys.com/ok/DoReMi.php)
I made that website after using Dreamweaver for 20minutes, it's extremely easy to use and you don't have to know anything about coding.

Oh well, whenever I make an animation or something I will link to tba at the end of it and slowly take over rtil's website. That's what I am planning to do!

i'm pretty sure that's the swf compiling level data, not loading assets

Ah I'll download that right away.

Do anyone know a good place to upload a website (server) for free? I need a temporary place to have my website because I don't have paypal at the moment.

Making flash websites can be easy if you know what you are doing. Each page is its own swf that gets loaded into a a master usually. Keeps things easy to keep track of.

it's because you're telling the table to stay a certain pixel amount away from the edges of the window. change it to a percentage instead, and it will scale accordingly.

Wps you're hilarious and all but shut up

edit: oh and thanks rtil, I'll get right too it.

edit2: I did change it to per cent but it didn't change a thing really. I still cuts stuff up instead of making the window scroll. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Just try it out, couldn't take that long now could it? And if you try it out on your own you'd learn by far better, too.
