Yay for Flash 8! Sure, it has it's graphical flaws but I wasn't trying to be a perfectionist when it came to designing the boat. Maybe I'll add a sun. Expect more stuff like this soon.
niec. try and make the sky more interesting though. it covers around half of the piece and its just blue
apart from that, pretty good
Thanks. Like I said, I'm thinking about adding a sun. Maybe I'll add clouds too.
Don't shade water like that. calm water has soft tones. If the water is moving make some waves. And like Freekc said, make the sky more interesting. The boat however is moving well.
The main reason why I designed the water like that is because of three reasons:
-It would've been very time consuming making a great looking ocean especially considering how the ocean was the first thing I made in that flash file.
-I didn't think to make some waves.
-I was just trying to get used to working with Flash 8. Last thing I needed would've been to design a great looking ocean with waves. @_@ I'm thinking about redoing the ocean.
Thanks for the complement and criticisms.

for your water, you could use a nice gradient and a trick for water reflections called a "slotgag". google it and you'll see what i'm talking about. it's pretty cool
First of all, while some of the boat animation looks fine, the rest of the graphics are kinda lousy. Not only that but there was such a lack of animation that it definitely hurts the overall score for graphics. There's a little style to the flash but overall, the art lacks any real form of kick that could've seriously improved this short. The music chosen for the flash is unique but nothing special. The writing is not only poorly done but it has an unfinished feel to it. As for entertainment value, this flash is so short and so uninteresting that it gets a well deserved 1. I know not much effort was put into this piece but it's so short that it doesn't even feel like a finished creation. The potential is there, it just isn't being used. Next time, try to put more effort into the work you guys create.

googled slotgag and this (http://www.sarahneumeister.com/Gallery/2dart/Slotgag_by_Sarah_Neumeister.jpg) is the only thing that came up.

add a space. "slot gag" it comes up with something but it isn't really helpful, maybe there needs to be a page on this in the Anipedia.
I would use an old technique called a "slot gag". Basically, you take a piece of opaque black paper the size of the field you are shooting and cut multiple small, long openings at an angle to represent the path of the rain drops. Then, you create another sheet that has vertical openings but much wider on a sheet that is double or triple the width of your field. By passing this second sheet from side to side over the other backlit, you get streaks that move along the angled slots. By sandwiching a layer of diffusion between the two, you can get soft edged streaks that appear to have some speed to them. You would double expose this footage over your primary exposure.
Now, when you look at actual rain footage, there may be sense of drops streaking by, but WHERE they go isn't apparent until they hit something. For that reason, you can do a secondary exposure of animated drops "splattering" when they hit their target. You wouldn't actually need to animate them in their trajectory; only at the moment of impact. The human eye will assume the drop came from one of the hundreds of streaks that is present in the frame and will draw a correlation where there really isn't any.
A brilliant example of this is in Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers where Gromit is standing in the rain. There are animated drops that "impact" but you really don't see where they come from because there is also a double exposed overlay of rain streaks in the forground. Again, the brain makes an association where there is none as we don't really notice an individual rain drop until it hits something.
Hope this helps!

I think you were kind of generous.
where do I begin?
