Hmm..I use two types of VCams, the one that Adam Phillips uses and the "animator" Vcam.  The Animator V-cam you can tilt and junk...Dunno if that's the one he gave you. That one made things look off center sometimes too.  Never tried it inside of an MC tho. Also it seems that if you do that it will prolly slow down the MC a bit.

Seriously F0d, wouldn't placing things in like 2 seperate scenes make you like able to increase the frame limit? Like instead of havin one scene if you had two, the limit would be like 32,000? Or do I not know what I'm talkin bout?

scenes are horribly gay ive had awful experiences working with them in the past

movieclips would work just fine if the VCAM worked inside of em

i have had this issue with the vcam in the past. i'm guessing what it's doing is it's pushing the actual frame down by about 100 pixels or so. whenever this happens to me, i take a screenshot of the scene in the swf, bring it into photoshop and measure the number of pixels it's off. then i go into the vcam symbol and move the frame down that number of pixels so i am seeing what it's actually going to frame. i dunno why it does this, but i have had this problem many, many times. this is the only way i know how to solve it. sometimes getting a fresh cam from the guy who developed the vcam for phillips off his site (dunno the exact url), that can help. but warning, when you import the camera it will be solid black box by default - this is cuz it's in an example FLA from one of phillips cartoons where it fades from black, and so the cam is black on the 1st frame with the 'tint' tool lmao. so just fix that before you start using it.

fuckkkkk

i tried the photoshop method but the problem is after i move the camera frame the right amount of pixels, i have to go through to each individual keyframe of the VCAM's animation and reposition it back on the stage. i also have to reposition that little middle circle that appears when you're in free transform mode. its extremely time consuming and hard to do accurately

hmmmm i wonder if i could change something in the code to get it to work...

btw just for the record the VCAM im using right now is this:
http://www.thebackalleys.com/ok/public/CAMERA_MC.fla (http://www.thebackalleys.com/ok/public/CAMERA_MC.fla)

i tried usin the original one from phillips and it doesnt work within movieclips. that one right there is supposed to work inside MCs, but it isn't for some reason

that's weird. if you edit the symbol itself, it shouldn't revert back to an old version of itself on a new keyframe. unless if you made a duplicate on accident.

you could probably edit the code to offset the Y translation for the camera in pixels.

it doesnt revert back to an old version. ill show you what i mean

first i figured out the cam was making the stage off center by 269 pixels down and 102 pixels across. i moved the camera frame inside of the VCAM movieclip those exact number of pixels so that it would match up. but after i did that, i had to go back to the main timeline and reposition the camera so that it would show the stage. since its all animated, i have to reposition each individual keyframe, which takes a long ass time

ah well i may just end up moving everything into place manually.

thats the thing about dailytoon 400. its by far the most monotonous shit ive ever worked on. ive spent hours on end just going through and renaming everyones fucking symbols lmfao

that's why they made graphic clips ;(

hm you think it would work if i converted all the MCs to graphics?

ill give it a shot i guess

you can animate inside graphics, they just don't work on things like stop(); frames.

But a cool thing about Graphics is that if you play from the Main timeline, unlike MC's, you can see the animation happening so it makes it easier for previewing instead of having to export everytime you want to see if our symbols are working right.

yeah so i cant use graphics cuz i need to use actionscript

and i tried manually repositioning the frame of the cam for each keyframe

its just not working the stage is off center no matter what i do

:(

You might be able to change something in the Actionscript to get it to work. I don't know what though; I still have Flash 8 so I can't get at the CAMERA MC fla.

this is the code in a keyframe inside the VCAM movieclip

import flash.geom.Matrix;
import flash.geom.Transform;
import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
var copyrightNotice = "Copyright © 2006-2007 Sockpuppet Pty Ltd. All Rights Reserved. http://www.reanimator.net"; (http://www.reanimator.net";)
var reanimator = new Transform(this);
var camera = new Transform(this._root);
var w:Number = Stage.width;
var h:Number = Stage.height;
this._visible = false;
this.onEnterFrame = function () {
this._parent.filters = this.filters;
var stageMatrix:Matrix = reanimator.matrix;
camera.colorTransform = reanimator.colorTransform;
stageMatrix.invert();
stageMatrix.translate(w*.5, h*.5);
camera.matrix = stageMatrix;
}
Title: VCAM inside of movieclips
Post by: rtil on April 1, 2008 01:14 AM
try replacing
stageMatrix.translate(w*.5, h*.5);
with
stageMatrix.translate(w*.5, (h*.5)-100);
and see if that changes anything

ooh now we're on to something

that code did reposition the stage slightly. still not centered perfectly but i think that code is what i need to fiddle with to get it right
Title: VCAM inside of movieclips
Post by: f0d on April 1, 2008 04:31 AM
ok i just tried adjusting actionscript. i put -172 after the width and -228 after the height. this gave me what i wanted when i exported, but only when the VCAM symbol was the exact size of the stage. if you moved the vcam around at all, it went off center again when exported.

so basically im hopelessly stuck :(

lmao maybe i should contact the vcam creator

you really shouldn't be having all these problems. the vcam should just work, period. you might want to get the vcam extension and create a new camera through the commands menu
Title: VCAM inside of movieclips
Post by: f0d on April 1, 2008 04:18 PM
it works just fine if its on the main timeline.

but once the vcam is used inside of a movieclip, its hopelessly off center. i can see why, its because the center of the main stage gets reset once you're inside of a symbol. the vcam thinks its looking at the center of the main stage but its actually showing the top left corner of the movieclip as the center.

ah well i made a BBS thread about this, as well as an actionscript.org thread.
