The legs seem slightly off compared to the body...
I'm not good at animation, so I can't really give much more of a comment

oh so now we're starting with the whole "if you don't type like me you're a faggot" bullshit right
Title: run cycle
Post by: rtil on March 10, 2008 01:58 AM
contact, body goes down
mid-air, body goes up
you have it for one of the leg motions but not the other

i have nothing to say except "oh ok i'll remember that" because the whole thing was done on assumptions, i didnt even know which way the body goes at what time etc

Post by: trent bortknob on March 10, 2008 03:05 AM
the movement in general is just really stiff

I think you got it alright for the leg but the upper and mid part looks weird. Maybe change the running pose.

EDIT: I hope this helps abit:

that animation kind of sucks but do look at the reference sheets they're providing for body movement and the contraposto in the hips and shoulders

Post by: rtil on March 10, 2008 04:37 PM
since you did a run a walk seems appropriate. do the key poses first, then inbetween. here are some tips to help improve your walk:
1. head is at its highest point at the passing position - when one leg is passing the other
2. head is at its lowest point at the contact position - when a foot first touches the ground
3. before a foot touches the ground the toes should be pointing up. this will help give your character balance
4. before you finish a frame ask yourself if the center of gravity lines up with the shoulers - if not, try again

lmao did you actually make that? Looking pretty good.

To anigen, the body looks ok but I can't figure out what the legs are doing. You should take a look at Anipedia's walking cycle article, read it and then do the same thing with a running cycle. There's no difference, it has all of the same poses they're just drawn differently but they're there to do the same thing.

Both of you

If you ever get the chance to come across a book called the "Animators Survival Kit" by.. oh whats his name now... Richard Williams yeah, well, that's a fucking fantastic book and if you're a fan of Roger Rabbit well that's the guy who I guess directed the Animation for that film. Or something along those lines. Either way he's a well established and a great animator and it's a great book. F00D and rtil probably know about it since they are both college animators if im not mistaken.

Just some noobie advice from a 16 year old

I just bought a Wooden Manikin tonight Woot!

In my opinion it's more useful than looking off websites though still not as great as real life drawing.

A few months of solid parctice with it though and my people should start to look more like people, then after that it's just years and years of refinement... luckily I love drawing
