i was talking to stag on the phone tonight and we were talking about how it's possible to juggle internet, art, and social life at the same time. after a while of discussion, one of us said "rtil does it". then we both started ranting off about how much of a lucky prick rtil is for being a good artist and animator and at the same time, having an avid social life and being good looking enough to get girls to like him.
all of the sudden stag is like, "i wish something really bad would happen to rtil so he would get some payback for all the good shit that happens to him". we both laughed about this and I suddenly came up with "what if sinister swam across the ocean and smashed a brick into his hand and they had to amputate"
we both thought about this for a while. what if rtil lost his drawing hand? well, he wouldn't be able to draw, so he couldn't possibly keep up in school. he'd get kicked out and probably lose his job due to not being able to create sufficient material. due to this sadness, he would most likely become sad and miserable and would possibly start drinking. he'd drive away all of his friends and such. he'd probably become obese too
"well that would really suck" I said. stag responded with "yeah i really hope that never happens haha"
so i ask you
what would you do if you got your hand smashed by a crazy norwegian air force soldier carrying a brick? or got involved in some freek© accident where your hand was crushed or run over? or if you got carpal tunnel? how would you cope with it? what would become of your life?

I'm ambidextrous. However, I do my cartoons with my right hands and my portrait stuff with my left hand. I find it easier to not smudge a realistic piece when I'm using my left hand. If I smudge with my right hand on something non-realistic, I find a way to work it in.
Of course if BOTH were smashed I'd be fucked. I'd probably study philosophy or something and get a doctorate in it and then try to teach it at university. Gayest fucking thing in the world = philosophy, so I wouldn't feel obligated to ever have to do a good job.

that has to do with working on a piece from right to left and left to right. if you started a charcoal piece with your left arm and started at the right side of the canvas and worked your way left, you\\\'d smudge the entire piece with the side of your hand and wrist in the same way if you did it with your right starting from the left. so i don\\\'t really get why you do that. but it is no doubt interesting
also the question presented is probably the most fascinating i\\\'ve ever heard. i would probably have to spend a year or two learning how to use my left hand, which is only good at typing and holding a fork
still, even if i did learn how to use it, it would slow me down. i use my left hand to support the tablet, hit shortcut buttons, erase, hold the paper in place, etc. i\\\'d need some kind of placeholder for my missing right hand - technology and money willing. i\\\'d probably get a church to start a fundraiser for me, those always rake in the goods

Anyways, if i rendered my hand useless, id have no idea what to do. What would be certain is that my current artistic flow would seize to go on. Cant use my left, id go crazy chewing that hand off in frustration and anger. I actually think i wouldve given up everything and stay anonymous on the net in shame. Extra depressed and eventually crawled off.
OR, i wouldve MAYBE started painting with my other hand. Much easier. And i wouldve spent my time on learning painting techniques. Maybe i wouldnt draw, but at least paint at large canvas, i think that would be easy learning with my left hand. Id also go back to making music. Dunno about work, but id spent my savings on having my hand rebuilt with prosthetic materials from iLimb. If they wouldve been able to develop stuffs that can bring back feelings in that hand, id upgrade no matter the prize tag.
Yeah I I'd probably spend all my time trying to learn to draw with my left hand. That sure would suck if that happened though!
