Title: Bruce Bickford
Post by: Gerkinman on February 23, 2008 10:41 AM
I know it could be argued that the style is messy and whatnot, but from a  technical standpoint, the experimental stuff done by Bruce Bickford he did with Frank Zappa has got to be the craziest stop motion animation of all time. I know its old as hell, and i remember watching baby snakes with my dad when i was a kid, god knows why he let me, but yeh, i havent seen anyone else do anything quite like it before... or since. Other then him ofcourse.

Opinions?

i don't know a lot of claymators so i'm not going to call him the best ever. it was really amazing though and i imagine that took him forever. the psychedelic stuff gets old pretty quick, though (the morphing faces etc etc). i thought the best part was the beginning with the city and the cars flipping over eachother. it's the only part that really had anything to do with the song

i really liked how he did eyes, and the morphing was neat but thats kinda all it was. it doesn't beat Wallace and Gromit or Frog and Toad

I think target audience would have obviously had alot to do with it aswell, i dont think many people listened to Frank Zappa without either being stoned or on musrooms.

Yeah Frank Zappa is pretty trippy, which explains his work with Captain Beefheart and all of that...

I couldn't watch it all due to YouTube vids not buffering properly for me but what I did see impressed me. I didn't get to the morphing part basically, but saw a lot of the intro involving the cars and that bit. It was really good I'd say

It was pretty well done. The style got dry towards the end and it started to feel like a gimmick though.

I love Frank Zappa.
