Stop drawing in detail. Just stop it entirely. Spend as much time on a simple basic plain figure getting the anatomy and pose right as you would on you full detailed shaded blah blah drawings. Right now all i see is a mess of lines.

[size=]Yeah I need to buy one of those little posable wooden dolls and start doing Gestural Practice, believe me I know I need serious work on my anatomy so I find it funny that you bring it up. It shows you have serious knowledge pertaining to drawing. When I am old enough, and have a job so I can pay for it on my own, I will attend as many Life Drawing sessions as I possibly can to try and fix this dilemma. I usually start out with basic shapes because gestural is really hard for me to do, its hard to force myself to breeze through and get the form that easily, its a bad habit that I will have to try hard to fix. But it is something that I need to learn in order to become a fine artist and give my detail some actual meaning, you know?

I forget now doesn't line quality refer to using varying light and heavy pressure to create varying shades and whatnot? I usually just use a blending stick but since line quality seems to be so important I will try to do it more often...

I think it was you who said philosophy is gay, maybe im misinterpreting things, but I really enjoy philosophy and I honestly wake up everyday and wonder why I even exist.
I also want to start working on 8-heads tall character designs, like Aeon Flux, because I feel that character flows really well in animation. Most of my characters now stand somewhere between 4 and 6 :/
6 heads tall is a normal human being. 8 heads tall usually is a heroic figure. so unless all your characters are heroes, i'd stay away from making them that tall. if you're going for a cartoony style though, head heights shouldn't even matter. height says a lot about a character so if you can exaggerate it the more cartoony the better.
as far as lines having a purpose, it doesn't have anything to do with philosophic garbage. it has to do with the fact that where there are 500 lines, there could be just 1, and it would look a lot better.chicken scratches and scribbly lines are not a style, they are a design flaw. only very professional artists can pull off a real messy style because their lines have direction, movement and reason for being. most people draw like that because they don't know what line is the right one, so they keep drawing on top of the old ones.
the best way to avoid this is to be more confident in the lines that you draw. don't slow down or look too close at the picture. keep your eyes on the big picture and make bold strokes

So you're saying you don't think I have the inner capabilities to be able to successfully use the sketchy look of artwork or are you pointing me in the right direction so that I can continue to use the sketchy look, but more professionally and such?
I can do clean artwork as well, as my older brother has me help him with Clean-up on some of his 2d movies... I just don't tend to do that in my sketchbook because I like the sketchy look.

My dream career would be as a Character Designer and my brother said that I should start working on turnarounds and just varying the amount of characters that I can make, because you don't know if you'll have to make a 3heads tall Cartoony character one day, and a 6heads tall more realistic one the next. So he advises I work on having a broad style of characters that I can create.
aasdfjkh okay he also 100% above everything else reccomends that I spend a large portion of time doing gestural drawings, life art and such, and anatomy. I already know how to do it I just don't practice it enough on my own at this point in time... Shame. You know the whole, you have 30 or 60 seconds to capture the essence of this pose, starting NOW! Type of thing....
you never stop learning being an artist. there will always be things you can improve on or don't understand. the best thing that can happen to you as an artist is for you to subconciously apply principles that will better your art without having to think about them. once your hand naturally does the things that makes your work better, that is when you have been practicing enough. when you are free flowing and the lines you make are all important strokes.

Anyway, the best advice is to just practice. All the time. Drawing, drawing, drawing. A professional artist's life is one of cramped wrists and dry scratchy eyes.
