Its just something i enjoy doing i suppose. I find it relaxing. They also sell well at conventions as prints, better then my illustrations do anyways, so theres money to be had.
you should try being more graphic with them, or at least getting better camera shots (the girl with the devil poker thing, that is a horrible angle)
Getting the pics is the hard part, i only really get given what my friends dont use in there shoots. Most stock artists like to take a cut of the profit, which isnt very much, but at the same time the prints generally only just cover the cost of having a table at a con so id be doing cons at a loss, this is the only way ive found to compete against the naruto fan artists in profits at these things. Id like to do alot cooler things but at the moment due to work and whatnot im more of a dabbler, tho i was doing vector art as a job for a long while, they were more for use in banner advertising then graphic art. In any case, i live in a really isolated area so i cant go out there and get my friends to model for me mainly due to most of them living 5 to 6 hours away. Im not an artist, nor am i an animator, im just a doodler.

it has some nice qualities to it but the characters aren't popping from the backgrounds enough. it's because of the vast amount of black you are using in the clouds and outlines of the backgrounds

Im a Les Claypool fan, tho i prefer his Frog Brigade work to his Primus stuff. Anyways, i felt like doing something a little different and thus this little sketch was born.

Most of that time was spent trying to get the background to work, since ive upgraded to Vista my camera doesnt work thanks to vista, so there was a long process of getting the quicktime version off my mac, exporting as images, tampering with the quality blah blah blah. The animation itself probably didnt take any more then 30 minutes.

Whenever I play as Zerg I just mass hydras. That's all I do. Hydras, hydras and more hydras. Hatcheries for larvae and larvae for hydras.
And as Protoss, I cannonwhore. Once I flooded an entire map (unlimiresourc type of map) with cannons... to the dismay of both my allies and my enemies, as neither could deploy their land forces.

It was for my neo art nazi ID on sheezyart, i wanted a symbol that was recognizable but wasn't a swash sticker, so i use the Pink Floyd hammers and the song waiting for the worms.

I don't like how you mix gradients and cell shading together a lot. Looks messy to me.
I agree with tealon to a certen degree.
It works on the shirt's and the brain's shading though.
Im learning as i go, always trying new things. I try to kep the gradients as subtle as possible, for the most part anyway.
I do like what you did on that brain though.
It'd be cool if you could do it either all gradients, or all cell shading.
Yeh, i use strait cel shading on my doodle pages, as you can see a few pages back. Not a fan off full gradient stuff tho, looks tacky.

Usually between 20 - 30 minutes.
I spend hours on traditional stuff (which thanks to Vista i currently have no way to scan or photograph, drivers are still hard to come by), but i think due to my work, where im so molded into a mindset of "get this done asap" if im drawing in flash i feel as tho i have to get it finished as quickly as possible. Its the main reason i want to get out of the flash animation industry. So i can take my time with things.

I cant draw anywhere near as good with a tablet as i can with a pencil, i guess my mind just doesnt work the same between the two mediums. And i rarely go over my stuff in flash because its hard to give images depth in flash, in my mind my pencil work looks more organic and thus should be coloured accordingly. But is suck with Corel Painter and Photoshop. Im always messing around with a variety of programs to see what i can get away with tho.
There's actually alot of great weight to the first of those two pencil drawings. I'm pretty impressed with both of those all in all. You probably spent more time on them than you do in Flash too, though.

Some asshole boss I used to have when I interned with a Manga company told me I had to use the tablet for everything if I wanted to get better. I try to use it as a mouse also...I've gotten a bit better. I sometimes even prefer it now to a traditional pen.

BTW Gerk, Those penciled drawings look a lot more detailed than the flash ones. However, doing things in flash may take away from their depth, but flash also adds a unique feel and style to your drawings. I love it.

Yea I didnt really like the flash either Gherkin. I mean you did fbf but it was like at most 3 frames of animation for each action either person did and sometimes it wasnt even animated correctly. I convert everything into a graphic and then export it scene by scene as uncompressed AVIs. Then i recompile them in Windows Movie Maker. I started doing it original to get my shit on DVD for cons and the like, but yeh, now i use it for youtube aswell.

Yeh, ive been told that, but i tend to animate with avi's in mind, and it also means i can export my movies in HD which is handy when theyre getting projected onto theatre screens and the like. extracting from an swf is exactly the same thing. swf to video converters typically allow you to specify an aspect ratio/width-height setting for your output

i think when he started this comic artist just didn't know how to handle the unbelievable popularity of the original videogame comic and just caved at the end do to artistic stagnation and societal difficulties that lea to larger emotional problems therein.

It didn't drive me insane but it certainly led to some nasty hand cramps. Still is a pretty laid back way of working, i just hate the fact it means double doing all the animation. If i had animated in the vector style i had originally planned to the whole series would probably be half done now ha ha.
