i was just wondering where you guys go to get feedback on your art or personal projects or w/e (if you do)
i guess i've just been trying to find a community of people that are *pro* and passionate about art and know how to give good critiques
i've been told to do this at least. i feel like a lot of the art criticism i get comes from discords that are decent but kind of all over the place
i guess i'm wondering what the best place would be to get feedback from 'pros' (i feel like a fuck when i say that)
another question maybe is how do YOU approach criticism? what do you take, and discard? what's good and bad criticism?

I can't really say much in terms of finding people to give criticism, though generally when I need guidance I've learned that while it's good to ask for criticism I will be more likely to get a response if I ask for resources such as reference sites/blogs and such, since it's quicker and easier for somebody to do. But usually I'll just find some artists who even if they aren't pro necessarily will not bullshit me and be completely blunt and honest, and surround myself with them. But what you said about Discords is good, posting to Discord servers with artists on them usually helps at least a bit.
As far as what I take, really I take just about anything since I'm not confident in my art at all so I always assume that there will be some issues easy to spot for just about anyone regardless of their skill or whatever. So I guess as long as I get something a bit more than "lol gay"
I'm not a great artist or animator and truthfully I'm kinda unsure about those questions myself, so I'm not sure I have any right to say any of this or if this helps, but I figured I'd say what's worked for me.
even professionals will give you varied opinions and critique. maybe more pointed and useful critique, but they will still have their own preferences and bias. unless you have a glaring foundational problem there's only so much critique can do to help you.
i look for critique from the artists i admire. not always possible, but nice when it counts.
but at the end of the day all the critique in the world will not make you a better artist unless you practice. and proper introspection can help you just as much - the artist's most harsh critic is often themselves.
I was thinkin about this thread.
I knew a girl who'd draw a 'mental portrait' from a collection of artwork someone drew, and she'd piece together any patterns or things the artist kept drawing, but they were all rough sketches; she was an Art Therapist.
There are also people who are into forensic handwriting; There was a story awhile back where they compared a serial killer's handwriting to the average person's, and how an arch in the letter A could mean something specific. I dont know if this is the same thing really, idk.
I feel constructive criticism can do a lot of good if you start asking yourself questions about 'why' you do certain things.
