Gearbox decided to stop pumping out Borderlands DLC and are coming out with a new IP this year called Battleborn, a true FPS Moba featuring 25 unique characters, a co-op campaign and Ranked PvP across 3 different game modes and multiple maps.
Lore Synopsis: A catastrophe has destroyed every star in the universe - except one. Survivors from every corner of space known as Battleborn have united under 5 different factions to fight for control of the last star and to destroy the mysterious Varelsi that caused the catastrophe and robbed the Battleborn of their homes.
Gameplay: This game is a true Moba FPS complete with Creeps/Minions, Towers/Turrets, Levels/EXP and Gold farm. Unlike Smite before it, map design includes vertical space and headshot damage actually crits.
There are three announced game modes:
"Capture", a self-explanatory point capture mode.
"Meltdown", a two-lane mode where the objective is to escort robot minions to the opposing team's smeltery for sacrifice, similar to Smite's Arena Mode.
"Incursion", your basic three-lane MOBA setup. Taking a cue from Dawngate, the Ancient/Nexus is replace with an actual Boss battle.
Most characters fall into one or two classic roles - Tank, Assassin, AoE Burst, Ranged DPS and Support.
Level cap in any given match is 10. Each level grants the player a choice of two "mutations" that change the way a certain ability or auto-attack works. Ultimate abilities unlock at lvl. 5
Minions grant EXP and Shards upon death. Shards are used to construct turrets, healing and buff stations around the map for assistance. They are also used to equip Gear pieces the player has selected before going into a match; there are three gear slots total, and each provides stat bonuses such as reload speed, crit damage, ability cooldown etc.
Gear itself is unlocked by playing the campaign mode or by spending earned in-game currency on booster packs (Dota players will probably hate this. League players have acquiesced to the grind.)
Players will also have mastery levels for each character as well as overall level, which provide additional unlockables such as hidden mutations for characters.

Open Beta Starts April 13th for PC (https://battleborn.com/en/beta/?gclid=CPWPy-_49csCFc8lgQod04wMjQ)
Game is currently $28 on CD Keys (http://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/battleborn-pc-cd-key-steam)
i've signed up for the open beta
first impressions:
i like the idea of it but i hope it doesn't wander too closely to how modern MOBAs function because i find them frustrating (and sometimes even infuriating) to play
the art style is unique but the facial models are awful
unlockable ability and level cap reminds me of Heroes of the Storm
bad music choices on the trailers
looks more fun than overwatch
What's the difference between a MOBA FPS and an Arena shooter? Classes?

I've never actually encountered the term Arena Shooters before. Seems like it originally referred to games like Quake and Unreal Tournament but eventually moved on to refer to class based games like TF2 and now Overwatch? I guess I'm not too big on terminology here, I just figured an FPS with Moba mechanics (minion farming, exp, item builds etc.) was easily described as a Moba FPS.
I actually don't really consider Overwatch that much of a Moba FPS since unique character abilities with cooldowns is the extent it goes into Moba mechanics, but people seem to be referring to it as such, or at least they were back when I was first hearing about it.
This video is much better, no commentary or switching perspectives, just pure gameplay.
- It looks like the number of lanes is dependent on the actual map, since this one is a single lane
- You can see all of the typical Moba mechanics at play in this video: jungle camps, buying items, skill leveling etc.
- This is Orendi, the hard carry I mentioned on Discord. She gets fed early and by late game is absolutely shitting on people with her ultimate ability.

there is definitely nothing moba-like about overwatch's gameplay mechanics. the only moba-like thing it has are hero-based instead of class-based characters. there are 4 main roles but it's not like tf2 where there are only 9 characters and you can change your loadout. the skills and loadouts are locked in, there's no leveling or exp. it's all about synergy and teamwork.
i just play dumb shit like smite and paladins, is this similar? looks like paladins
One of the modes is exactly like Smite's Arena mode, just expanded. I liked Smite but didn't like the lack of vertical space or headshots. At that point the only difference from any other MOBA is the perspective.

Pretty good take on the game.
Also the Beta went live yesterday and I've been playing the hell out of it. Will probably be on again tonight around 7pm EST.
hm, i signed up for the open beta but didn't get anything about it
Just check the Steam Store Page and see if you can download it. Should be towards the top.
