qr codes just add the miis to your miifoto characters.
adding a friend requires mutual follows from twitter and facebook... or if your in the same room as someone else.
when you get enough friends you start getting recommendations and you can add people from there.

i connected mine to facebook. currently fb or twitter is the only way to add friends. unless that nintendo account supports a friends list. i wouldn't know , i've been unable to create one
This is actually a very convenient thread to have been made in my absence, because I was going to create something similar when I got back and ask some more specific questions on how ye would like to represented when I put all these Miis into my copy of Smash Bros.
Avoiding hijacking the thread, I'll keep it simple and ask for whomever cares whether they'd like to be a Brawler, Swordfighter, or Gunner.
