Did you ever like Rugrats: All Grown Up or thought it was lame/meh?
Most kids watched Rugrats and I'm sure most enjoyed it. Even my mom who was in her late 20s/early 30s at the time (now 46) thoroughly enjoyed Rugrats and remembers the characters' names like Tommy and Angelica. Good show it was, until the Dil era, which I didn't care for, but it was still okay but just too childish even for 10 years or under. The older episodes seemed to target towards a general audience, but still mainly children obviously.
All Grown Up was a show that was kind of hated and appreciated by the General public, Rugrats fans or not. People complained that AGU was too cliche about teen and preteen stereotypes. The characters changed but that's part of growing up, right? Tommy is an aspiring film director, Chuckie is less of a scaredy cat but still a bit cowardly and geeky, Kimi is an occasional goth punk, Angelica is nicer but still kind of the bratty side, Phil and Lil no longer like doing gross stuff and are more normal, and Susie is still, well... Susie. :o Although she attempted to be mean in Susie Goes Bad Lite, and *spoiler* eventually got her and her friends detained by police after a tresspassing and attempted vandalism incident. Also, Dil, who didn't really have much of an established personality in the original series became a hybrid hipster/skater punk who is innovative and comes up with creative ideas, like in the episode where they come up with ideas for inventions that become trendy at school they sell in order to make money to see the Sulky Boys, a typical pop sensation boy band, live in concert.
There's new characters like Harold who I believe was also in the newer Rugrats episodes and of course there were other miscellaneous characters, kids and adults. There was also the middle school principal Mr. Pangborn who was voiced by the same guy who does the voice for SpongeBob's own Mr. Krabs, Clancy Brown. They sound so similar too! Pangborn is kind of like an ex-military, former wrestling coach Guy who is mean to everyone... Except Dil. He even once said "Sucked the Dil Pickles right out of you" which sounded like borderline innuendo, lol.
Some complained that AGU was just a typical teeny bopper soap opera-ish show akin to Degrassi or As Told By Ginger, another Nickelodeon show. However some of us wanted to see the beloved Rugrats Gang we grew up as preteens and teens, and some were pleased by the result... Some were... Well, not.
Rugrats was unique for being a show that told the perspective of babies but AGU was a spinoff that, while unremarkable as its own show, was interesting for depicting our favorite babies as kids who now endure preteen and teen issues like dating and popularity.
