Still not sure how to feel about that last one for obvious reasons.
Anyway, discuss.
Guillermo del Toro, Hideo Kojima and Daryl Dixon? It's too big to fail :bugs:
I strongly dislike Hideo Kojima's style of writing / directing, but I like Guillermo del Toro and the Silent Hill series has always had an interesting approach to horror imo - so I hope Silent Hillz turnz out well.
As for The Evil Within, I don't really dig the realism and that stupid anything-but-scary "fountain of blood + close-ups of sharp claws inches from your face" style of horror. It will probably translate well into gameplay, but in a way that's more about tension and apprehensiveness than actual horror (more of a RE4 action thing than an Amnesia: The Dark Descent thing).
Lastly, as for Fatal Frame: I have no clue how to feel about it. Little Asian girls and ghouls are such an obvious setting that I don't even know if it's worth complaining about, like I'm staring at a clown's big red nose and thinking of telling him that big red noses suck.
i really love kojima and del toro's works, so i'm pretty amped up for silent hill (what if silent hills is code for silent hill 5)
the evil within looks good, glad to see shinji mikami back on the saddle
a new fuckin fatal frame, too? christmas came early, it seems

Moron playing P.T.
Here's hoping the game itself will be nothing like that demo.

Yeah it's cool to see him returning to form, though to be fair he hasn't really produced or directed a single game I didn't at least like. Did you play Vanquish or Shadows of the Damned?

I'm a fan of both their works and even I have doubts. I just really hope the finished game won't employ stupid/cheap scares (i.e. sink fetuses), be in first person (I don't need another Shattered Memories), or be too "cinematic" (which is a concern with del Toro but especially Kojima being involved). Not only has Silent Hill translated poorly to film in the past, but the early games managed to be beautiful and unique without gameplay that was cinematic, realistic, or even all that great, nor the hardware for hyperrealistic graphics. In that way, they very much represent a certain special something that's missing from today's industry, especially in the west.

Yeah, it would be nice if the finished product would rely at least as much on atmosphere as action (though judging by gameplay footage, this seems unlikely). It's probably too late to wish for the valiant return of fixed cameras and horror angles, but at the very least it seems the survival aspects will be re-emphasized, which is more than we can say for most horror games since 2005 when RE4 ruined the genre forever.

I understand how it seems uninventive but the marriage of little Asian girls and ghouls has been a staple of Zero since the first game, and of J-horror in general for much longer. Of the three, it's the one I least suspect to break new ground or reinvent the genre, but I also have the highest hopes of enjoying it for pretty much that exact reason. Plus I mean just look at it. It's friggin gorgeous.

I just hope Konami's golden boy knows what he's doing.
Whatever Kojima's on
i am very bad with horror games in general but i like silent hill so i hope that turns out well
So is anyone else playing TEW?
Also forgot to include this in the OP. It came out in May but it's definitely still relevant. Zero to the core but well worth the money for PC nerds. Grab it on sale or something if you haven't.

Maiden of Black Water is 👌 for anyone wondering.
Some of the best visual effects I've seen in a game.
Really pretty too.
And how big is the game file? I'm thinking about getting it if it fits onto my system.
You download it episodically which is dumb but the whole shebang is like 16 gigs.
It's retarded yes but this is NOA we're talking about.
Played the RE7 demo at a friends house the other day. The naturalistic dialogue, first person camera and found footage aesthetic really don't suit the franchise at all.

That said it can't possibly be as bad as the last two mainline games.
