a torrent file is something you open in a bittorrent client. it tells your computer to listen to trackers, or servers that keep track of other people who are using the torrent file. they all have some or all pieces of the bigger file of what you\\\'re trying to get. everyone pools it together and you grab pieces from whoever you can connect to. the more peers, the faster it goes.

Haha that is, except whenever I finish a torrent I almost immediately stop seeding it and I delete it. So I basically cut the other climbers' rope.

I don't really like torrent much anymore, because it's hard to find a good one with lots of seeds since Oink closed. I was never part of Demonoid though.

i do like isohunt, but they also have a lot of fake/bogus releases.
the reason for the membership communities is mostly quality control. people liked oink and demonoid because their uploaders only released legit content. isohunt is responsible for the fake daft punk alive 2007 leak

really, I've never ran into a bad torrent there. but i can see why a membership community could be good.
