Title: The LEGO Movie
Post by: rtil on March 9, 2014 05:21 AM
who saw it? what did you think?

i was not expecting much from the original trailers but it actually turned out to be pretty good. it was overly hyper at times, but well written and just overall a lot of fun.

The Lego Movie - Everything Is Awesome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx5n21zHPm8#ws)

the cg visuals with the stuttered frames gave the feeling of a lego stop-motion film on an epic scale which is really cool.

a sequel has been announced for 2017

I have a creeping suspicion this movie might contain product placement.

no doubt it's basically one big ad for legos , but a lot of heart was put into it and it was fairly well written for an american kids movie so i give it a pass

Jokes aside, I enjoyed Clone High and 21 Jump Street (which was the only American comedy I've seen in years, and the only one I felt actually came close to "grasping" digital-age humor) so I've been excited to see this. I'll probably go tomorrow based on your recommendation. I've just been suspicious of unanimously praised movies released in the last year (Gravity, American Hustle). I'll just need to find someone to see it with.

Fuck it I'll go alone.

i was suspicious, too. when the trailers first came out, i thought it was going to suck. when the movie came out and almost everyone loved it (i only talked to one person who didn't like it), i was still not getting my hopes up because i didn't want to be disappointed.

it's not the best film ever made, but it is just a lot of fun to watch. it's hard not to smile while watching it, and some of the humor is genuinely funny.

iirc they never even once say the word "lego" in the entire film.

I don't think they did.

Also, I think Benny is my favorite character

saw it a few weeks ago and it had me laughing for the majority of the film.
the live action scenes caught me off guard but i thought they were pretty well thought out. i liked the direction it took near the end. batman being the love interest was also a pretty funny idea.
now that you mention it, i think he's right. the only mention of legos is in the title and credits.

message was cute (lego kits limiting creativity ect)

visuals were great, level of detail put into some of those scenes was astounding

ill have to watch it again at some point, im sure theres tons of little things i missed it all happened so fast

rtil why are you always right. This is exactly the kind of movie attention deficit people like me need more of. I hope the dramatics catch on, because "adult" movies have been kinda samey as of late. We need more kinetic, cyber-speed movies like this one.

Also loved the jokes, the layer of metafiction, the metaphor about the fleeting, generational nature of art and meaning, as well as the meta-religious overtones
He made the prophecy up, but it's still true!
That may sound like an overstatement, but then you probably haven't seen the movie.

So yeah basically a Post-modern masterpiece. I liked it almost as much as Rango.

haha you really liked rango. to be fair i loved it too, i think it is a really rare and special piece of cgi cinema. and for the lego movie, everything that a lego fan or someone with a childhood could have hoped for the movie delivered on, and that's why i think it was so successful in its execution.

I was awestruck by Rango. I was literally breathing through my mouth for the entire movie. Sort of like this one except in this case I was grinning like an idiot too.

And I completely agree, even though I only had a few Lego sets as a kid. Did you see 21 Jump Street? I really liked it, but probably mostly because everyone I went to high school with was like that.

this had nothing on the 'Mask of Light', which will always be the one true lego movie. Anyone who says otherwise can suck my big fat Mata-nui
