i concede the fact that a majority of my sketches are done hastily, and mistakes/weird shit like that will happen occasionally

you probably already know this but these drawings indicate a real lack of understanding of a lot of fundamentals. my first suggestion to you would be to stop trying such ambitious compositions and poses and start back at square one basics. in fact i wouldn't even be drawing the human figure at the moment. the first thing you need to work on is line quality. your lines are fuzzy, and you draw over the same stroke too many times. i would start with drawing basic 3d shapes in space so that you can begin to understand things like volume and form on a basic level. and sharpen your pencil. what are you drawing with/on?

a problem i've always had is that my hand is very light when it comes to strokes. i retained some teachings from younger days that left the impression of "if you don't draw firm lines well, use many smaller ones to take its place", needless to say, that's why the sketches look the way they are. my hand is very untrained when it comes to actual line work.

i mean like the brand of pencil and paper. i can't see what that says.
it's ok if you're light of hand, but avoid drawing the same line over and over. it is called chicken scratch and it's a result of overworking. you want your light strokes to be gestural, then you go back over it later with a solid line adding the detail.

well, the pencils i use are just generic mechanical paper-mate 0.7mm, and the sketchbook is a 'canson' brand. i'm not seeing anything specific about the page texture, but the pages resemble something a step above your standard printing paper.

i'd recommend moving away from mechanical pencils and investing in some actual art pencils. prismas or tombows if you can. since you're light-handed i'd recommend anything 2b or higher (3b,4b,6b, etc)

i've been using a set of derwent soft graphic pencils for classwork, actually. i haven't bothered to upload anything from those particular assignments however, as the pages used are too big for my scanner, and i have no camera that takes anything in a decent resolution.

once i find a solution to that, i'll put those up asap.

Just draw more, you'll get there. All it takes is practice and patience.

drawing more is definitely good, but without any kind of application or study you can draw something 10,000 times and potentially never get any better.

i am not an old experienced art man yet so all i can say is

i think if you want to get better at drawing in general, take your sketchbook into town or on the train and draw from life

like people you meet, buildings, interesting compositions

then when you get really good at all that, you can start twisting perspectives, making up your own compositions and distorting proportions to create an interesting and stylised image/ way of drawing that suits you

the drawing you redid is slighty better now. you got rid of that bedpost on the left which is good (it was distracting) but its still pretty much the same other than that.
next time you wanna make a drawing like that i suggest you learn to make tiny thumbnails first to get the composition right. same goes for that last drawing. making thumbnails forces you to focus on the whole picture first so you wont get lost in the details

you're absolutely right, this version settled a bit more on details, rather than the composition. i'm surprised i didn't get the hint sooner by just looking at the characters and their positioning, alongside the fence.

for the life drawing- i see what you mean, yeah. i guess for his figure, i fell into that slump of trying to draw him as a cartoon with muscles, rather than just raw human figure. i've been to only one life drawing class so far- so there's plenty of time to adapt to new things. i'll most definitely use your suggestion for future classes, i never thought of that before.

the 2nd one and last one are a lot better than the others. whatever you're doing there you should keep doing it. i am assuming it is reference from life. you can learn a lot from continuing to do this . my suggestion is also to use the eraser and get rid of a lot of the extra lines you have . you can carve out shapes using the eraser as well. think of it as a brush that paints white.

mainly i think your biggest issue is the overall construction of the anatomy. things don't quite match up right, you've got body parts that aren't joined correctly that differ too much in size. individually they work, but in context of the entire body they don't. a  good way to avoid this is to learn how to gesture a body with basic skeletal construction before going into the full body poses you are doing. especially ones with clothing , i don't think you're at a technical level yet where you're ready to tackle cloth. basically you are skipping a few steps somewhere along the line and it's hurting your anatomy a lot.

you need to do more pics like your 1st one , but with more attention to detail and really learning how the body is constructed. you can also benefit a lot from doing things like studies of certain body parts on their own, like heads, faces, hands, etc.

i've done plenty of works with skeletons for a while in both life drawing and the 'drawing human figure in motion' class, i can't really be bothered to upload any of the others until probably tomorrow (i'm tired, and my scanner wakes up the whole house) they're predominantly gestural, however.

but you're right, i do tend to get caught up in the heat of the moment and forget to make the skeletal form first, which is kind of silly, because even way back when my drawings looked marginally worse, it was often the first step i would take (probably because it was the easiest and most forgiving)

i like the coloring on this, the perspective is much improved over the last piece as well. with shots like that that taken from a camera, you could also play with things like creating a focal point and blurring things outside of the aperture with feathered selections and gaussian blur

i could nitpick a lot over things but i'll just say two things stand out to me the most in terms of needing work - some over usage of line in places it isn't needed and the way that breast is popping out. it's a challenging angle to have them revealed but i'm not sure it could actually come forward that much with the nipple pointing forward. i think they'd be more squished  into the towel and instead you could just show a lot of cleavage with both the suspender straps unhooked. and there's just a lot of lines in places where they aren't needed. best example i think is the hand which makes it look kind of shriveled/wrinkled. you can use shading instead of lines in most places inside of shapes and contours  to suggest volume.

completely agreed, there's an abundance of unneeded lines- especially with the hand. i'll try to experiment with using shading to substitute for that in the near future
