Title: A little flash game I'm working on.
Post by: Coolboyman on October 28, 2013 06:22 PM
Since I'm going to be in between jobs for a month or two, I figure I'd collaborate with people and make some small games.

Here's the first. I made a demo that shows off the core engine and I think I could have this game done and published in a week or two.  There's going to be a lot more enemies and features and whatever when this is done.

Let me know what you think, positives and negatives.  Thanks.

positive- game looks smooth and clean, good customization, nice tunes

negative- control issues (character will occasionally lock up and be unable to move) low-fi sound effects, wildly inconsistent difficulty that comes from randomization in patterns

you should also make it so that you can shoot repeatedly, rather than individually (especially for a weapon like the assault rifle)

Thanks for the feedback.

I never got the lock up before, however sometimes flash loses "Focus" and you can't do anything unless you click the screen again. I'm working on a fix for that.  If that's not the problem, can you elaborate on the lock up?  Is the game running at 60FPS for you?

There's one gun where you can hold the mouse down, I think you're right that the assault rifle should be hold to shoot as well.

No idea where the artist got the sound effects from.  I believe we need more sound effects as well.

the focus one is what i would be referring to, runs perfectly aside from that.

Ah that's a relief.

In future versions, whenever the game loses focus, the game will automatically pause.

i found this infuriatingly difficult especially for a first level, the mecha-raptor thing that shoots the tracking beams at you is almost impossible to dodge given the limited amount of space you can move around in. it's a solid engine, though.

I think if I decrease the lifespan of those beams would help with that problem.  That isn't the real level 1 either, it was just meant to show off the enemies, which the other two show off bosses.

I may be a bit late, but here's some feedback from me (some things have already been said, which I'll omit). Overall it's a solid engine / game structure, I'll just leave constructive feedback.

-I feel like the range in which you are confined to walk in is a bit too small. I feel like there are sometimes points in the game where it is impossible to not get hit. Maybe increasing it by 25% or so would help a lot
-Got a lot of lag spikes, but that's more technical
-As I was writing this post, I was on the winter boss guy. The game was still running, but somehow I wasn't dyeing. Apparently if you stand slightly to the side of the side of the screen (where you spawn I think), it's almost impossible for him to kill you. He'll throw mines, but they rarely hit me. I just aimed up and kept shooting until he died.
-I felt like the gun before the shotgun was slightly better than the shotgun, at least I found myself getting through the first level faster with it.

Yeah as BP said I just prefer my run-n-guns to have continuous fire.
