Title: Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed
Post by: rtil on February 16, 2013 12:48 PM
Sonic & All Stars Racing: Transformed (PC) walkthrough - Rogue Cup - Rogue's Landing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp8gmGBBlf8#ws)

if you like kart racers, this is the best one out there imo. available on steam, 60fps , well optimized, future DLC characters and tracks already on the way. supports steam friends and multiplayer, karts can be leveled up with "mod" enhancements for different stat boosts, and best of all no "blue shell" type item. and as you can tell by the video it has 3 modes - car, boat and plane.

i've been playing this a lot and it's a blast, especially with all the themed levels. i'd recommend playing with a controller, though. i'm sure it's possible to play on a keyboard, just not as easy.

if you have it play some races with me!

Mario DLC, pay an extra $5 to play as Mario, I can already see the Nintenjews rubbing their hands in delight.

it's mostly sega cast so far - metal sonic confirmed, and we'll get at least 3 of the following: ryo hazuki, vectorman, toejam & earl, hatsune miku, bayonetta or segata sanshiro (japanese sega saturn mascot). sega also said they were planning other characters and maps that weren't voted on as well

that's brought up ad nauseam, but i'll bite. in the first game, it was to give everyone else a chance obviously. in this game, the car transforms into a boat and a plane - sonic can't swim or fly.

Fair enough.

i liked how sonic heroes solved it better, switching between team members to make use of their strengths

Plus Sonic Heroes was kind of crappy. I originally pre-ordered ASRT and but couldn't really enjoy it until recently because of computer problems (http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=30753). I've only really played this game on two different nights and put over 5 hours into the game both nights. If I had zero responsibilities, I probably would have over 40 hours logged in by the end of next week. >_> It took me 13 years to finally find a kart racing game I like about as much as Crash Team Racing and finally found it with this game. Mostly just playing single-player right now until I complete a ton of stuff since I want to be good at the game before heading online. You can find me on Steam here (http://steamcommunity.com/id/wac89). With the exception of Alien: Colonial Marines (http://i.imgur.com/ZwUzYbj.gif), it seems like nearly every game SEGA has released lately is considered at least of "good" quality and I like that they're taking the PC platform seriously nowadays. I don't think consoles will do as well next gen and many PC gamers such as myself enjoy SEGA games so this was a smart move on their part.

Mario Kart Wii's weapon balancing system sucked which ruined that game for me while ASRT has solid weapon balancing. The game lets you know if a player has a weapon and the weapons are usually dodgeable if you're skilled enough. Plus like rtil said, none of the attacks are anywhere near as cheap as the blue shell from the Mario Kart games. I fucking hate the tornado attacks though. Damn attack is disorientating and ruined what could have been some great rounds for me. >_<

the tornado will defnitely ruin a race for you if you're not ready for it. i usually would just restart a round if it hit me and i ran into a wall. i 've beaten the whole game on expert now and i have all 232 stars, but online play is a whole different animal. the only way you will get better at it is to play it. i'd also recommend watching the paths that racers take to get the most boosts out of a lap. even then, the beginning of a race determines a lot. sometimes you get lucky and get ahead of the pack, but it's actually bad to be in 1st at the beginning because there is a good chance you will get bombarded by drones and wind up in last place. generally it's best to play a character who has a good all-star move, save it until lap 3, and use it when you think you have an opportunity to get ahead.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind next time I play the game. I imagine the only way I'll get good at the online play is if I play it a lot, but I figure it's best I try to get far in the single player first so I'm very familiar with the maps. Currently, I have all the stars for the first 3/5 cups or whatever they're called in career mode. Haven't tried any of the other modes yet, but a lot of them seem very fun as well. This game was definitely worth the $20.25 I spent at Green Man Gaming. For anyone interested in this game that doesn't own it yet, you can buy it for only $14.98 at GamersGate. [LINK] (http://www.gamersgate.com/sonic?aff=ggnews) They also have a ton of other Sonic games on sale too.

I really don't know what to think of the game. I watched the video and I think it looks stupid - with the planes and boats and all. But everyone I know loves this game and I quite like kart racing games, so I'll eventually end up torrenting it some time soon and if i like it enough, I'll buy it.
