...It's really hard for me to shut up about this game for some reason.

QuoteThis is a little horror adventure game made in RPG Maker 2000 by a Japanese man named kouri (http://kouri.kuchinawa.com/) and translated to English by vgperson. It is short (I think it is shorter than Ao Oni), but it has an enthralling atmosphere and music, and it has multiple endings, which adds to its replay value. The horror is made mostly by surreal and creepy imagery and realizations that spark into your brain when you analyze the events of the game carefully.
Synopsis: A nine year old girl named Ib has gone to visit an art gallery with her parents. The gallery exposes the works of Weiss Guertena, an artist that worked on many different styles of art. Suddenly, when looking at one of the pictures, the lights flicker for a moment, and when Ib looks around again, everybody in the gallery has disappeared. From there on, she will end up trapped in a strange and surreal world where Guertena's art has come to life, and is not particularly friendly...
The english version of the game can be downloaded here (http://www.mediafire.com/?ofn0uykzuyc6psw). Screenshots of the game can be found here (http://vgboy.dabomstew.com/other/ib.htm).
The game needs the RPG Maker 2003 Runtime package to work. If you don't have it, you can set it up by downloading the game and running the file 'RTPMaker.exe' that comes in the game's archive. Also, this version of the game should be run on non-Japanese locale setting. If you run it on Japanese locale, certain sounds and music files may not play during the game, and you may encounter other problems.
...And yes, people have compared it to Yume Nikki, as in they've told me "If you like Ib, you'd like Yume Nikki".
I got interested in the game because of all the pretty fanart (http://www.zerochan.net/Ib+%28Game%29) I've been seeing all over the place, which makes me happy that this is catching on virally.
It's a pretty good game. Not long, not mind-blowing, but for something this short (3-5 hours), it's pretty good. The first 2 and last puzzles are a teensy bit annoying because it's hard to figure out what you're supposed to do at first, but the rest are reasonably solvable and somewhat challenging while keeping the story moving. The multiple endings are nifty, especially once you figure out what triggers those endings (and their implications) by checking out the walkthrough. Because the aesthetic of the game is... Kinda mleh, it really leaves much to the imagination and plenty to be inspired by... Though it could use a face-lift; I really wish this game looked prettier, if only because it's set in an art gallery and the scares get silly when they look like they were done in MSPaint. The scares are more in the vein of creepy, unsettling, and minor jump-scares than horrific, but I like the atmosphere.
My favorite scene is this one, as depicted in fanart (spoilers):

Just... Play the game. I need someone to flail about it with.
I'll give it a try. It seems interesting.
Fan-made, Ib anime promo i have no idea why there's tea and cookies/macarons in this

...I actually want an anime or at least an adaptation of some kind of this game.
a game has never scared or creeped me out. i'll have to see if ib breaks me.
i love Ib! she looks a little like Madotsuki from Yume Nikki. I hate the ladies that pop out of the paintings and crawl around though, ugh
@ rtil
I doubt the game would break you, but plaayyy iiitt~
@ iinnkk
She's cute~ People keep forgetting that she's just 9 years old though, which is funny whenever she can't understand words (people think she's retarded) and extra awkward when people pair her up with Garry suggestively. My favorite character Garry~ He's such a sweet guy and comes off as an adult watching out for a kid than "creepo with a crush".
That was actually really good!! Not much after the beginning was very scary, but the increase in story quality made up for that, I think. I'm surprised by how many variants there are in some parts of the story, but I can't be bothered to go through it all again to get another ending :V
The various endings, b00p!
