it's what they wrote on his birth certificate he had no say in the matter (and would be more worried about the complications of a screw through the brain than a dumb name)

GUY Gantric, CZAR of the mighty CZARIAT nation
his name is guy + gantry + gigantic even though he isn't really that big but MAYBE a gantry would be needed to support his ego!!! idk
GUY is also a designation for a class of cyborgs, it stands for "

Utilit
Y" and they're basically well-rounded enough to function in any role from combat and communications to logistics and hosting talk shows or whatever is necessary at the time
i've been accused of KNOCKING OFF cobra commander (character codename was at some point also "cyborg commander") but the main characters he can be compared to are raziel from soul reaver, doc terror from the centurions and baron dark from skeleton warriors
everything is inspired from something
yeah the point is that the obvious isn't always correct
i would definitely say raziel was the biggest inspiration but even in the earliest designs the similarities were few and by this point the only thing they have in common is glowing eyes
at some point it was pretty similar to cobra commander, but when the more cartoony proportions started kicking in around 2007 and the mouthpiece later became standard the comparison kind of faded
i haven't done as much with it as i probably should have but the process of evolving a set of designs over a period just shy of a decade now has yielded some interesting results, lessons and byproducts on a personal level
