this was originally gonna be a water effect but i did it wrong and it now looks like jelly, oh well.

Looks pretty good to me, the water one does feel a bit jello-y but the way the art actually looks is pretty nice

the problem with the lightning is that it's all disappearing at the same time.

I really like both of the effects~

I think the only thing detracting from the lightning effect is how it doesn't quite look like a surge of charged ions... I'm probably doing a really crummy job explaining it, but after the initial blast of white, I was expecting the lightning bolt itself to be much brighter, then as it dissipates, the charge dies from the brightest ends out. Not sure if you've already done this, but seeing it in slo-mo would probably show it better.
