Title: From Dust
Post by: Sinitron on August 15, 2011 11:20 AM
so yeah this is being released like in a couple days

it's a god-game similar to games like populous: the beginning and black & white

EDIT: it's on steam btw
http://store.steampowered.com/app/33460/ (http://store.steampowered.com/app/33460/)

and it's not very expensive either

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbxL-PU2reg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y8l8kEI354

if it's not a glitchy buggy mess it looks like it can be a lot of fun

for how long they've been making it i'm suprised it's only $15. kind of worrisome but if it sucks not a huge loss on my part. i just pre-ordered it

It's been out on xbox for a few weeks. People seem to like it.

well it's a downloadable game. To me at least it doesn't really seem like the kind of title that would be any better on a console or pc

Some reviewers have said mouse control probably suits it better, but they have not played the PC version yet. We just have to wait and see.

the game is great fun and you can be pretty inventive with how you build up and change the island, along with there being a fair few ways of dealing with challenges in the level.

here are some screens from an early level where i just spent lots of time developing it far more then it needed to be =]

Also even if a level gets tricky and changes suddenly in situation (it happens a lot) the game never feels like your not having fun!

game works fine for me

the constant internet connection required to play is stupid, but my internet is always on, soooooooo yeah

also the "no AA" complaint is stupid, you want to turn on AA? easy. go to your gfx card control panel, override game settings and turn on AA. fuckin scrubs

Yeah the Uplay thing blows chunks and the controls are a little dodgy at first, but I didn't have any other problems with it. It ran fine, and was fun while it lasted, an alright little game for its price. If they just ditched the Uplay crap it would be good - people crying about performance issues just need a computer that isn't vastly outdated. The fact that they mentioned that anyone with an integrated graphics unit is shit out of luck is funny because integrated graphics means that like every game ever will run like a bicycle through cement anyway.

Also this; http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9...3249#7411003249 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9751064939/m/5561081249?r=7411003249#7411003249)

So basically, if you're so screwed you can't run it at all, you can bitch at Ubisoft support for a refund... Maybe I'll do that now that I'm done with it just to give the Ubiheads negative figures, maybe they won't use Uplay next time! Not a big deal considering that From Dust is like the only moderately interesting looking Ubi game released in like years.

well damn that was a short game. but i'm trying the challenge maps now.. they're mostly annoying. but i did like the sanboxish feel of the last level

still worth $15 though. it was really like a modern day populous sequel

ooh i see what he's saying. the first level that HAS lava. wow i'm dumb

well yes that level is kind of a bitch but you can manipulate the lava flow. i just made the lava go off into the ocean so that i could focus on my little terraforming projects

Wow apparently even though they are going to remove the DRM, valve is offering refunds to people who want it. There may be some guidelines but still

getting water is the easy part. you just need to uncover some springs by moving sand (they're everywhere). the hard part is making sure they don't drown after you do it. but you can cover springs back up again by putting sand back on top of it.
