QuoteMembers of the shadowy collective known for its politically motivated Web hacks and attacks are targeting Facebook for what they claim to be the social-networking giant's misuse of personal information.

it sounds like some stupid empty threat, but part of me kind of wants them to be successful
I hope they follow through with this.

Yes, why not create a new name, not based on a pre-existing website teenies created?
It's like Osama's group being called Sephiroth's army, it doesn't work.
a lot of talented hackers can be quite young
it's just hilarious how clearly immature they are. how is anyone on cnn taking this seriously
why does everyone get so "i hope this works fuck social networking"? people use it because it actually makes life better. no one is forcing you to use it or be an addict.
dumb as it may sound, if facebook was completely destroyed there are people in my life who i would have trouble ever getting in contact with again.

Facebook/Social networking sites are a relatively new thing, and people managed just fine before they came into existence. It's just like cell phones - people didn't realize how much they needed them until they were invented, yet looking back they still managed just fine.
Whatever happened to living your own life?

we lived just fine without electricity, gas powered vehicles, or indoor plumbing too but I'm not keen on returning to that
I wanna close my Facebook, so I can feel cool when I proceed to tell everyone I don't have Facebook.

actually we didn't.. we lived a lot shorter lives, were prone to sickness and had generally poor health and hygiene. comparing that to a modern convenience like a cell phone or a social networking site is a little extreme. we could live without those things, but they would drastically reduce our quality of life. cell phones and facebook being gone, probably not so much.
it's not like they'll actually be able to "destroy" it anyway
might go down for a few hours

how many of your friends do you actually interact with though
some people have like 500 friends but only talk to maybe 20 people
so many people on here are just random acquaintances that i dont care whether i keep in contact with them or not

I hate to admit it but, even though I dont like it, Facebook is actually pretty useful, but Im also 14, so Im obviously pretty gay

lmao that was random as fuck my dude
also i agree with what billy said man, i like to know what my friends been up to lately and just keep in touch wit em, most of em never use AIM or MSN anymore or dont go online on there at all, but the thing is like 96% of the people who read this will not have the guts to repost this. When Goku died in the explosion with Cell, he thought of both you and me. If you are part of that 4% that doesn't feel ashamed to love Goku, repost this. Thank you Goku. I lifted up my arms when you asked for energy for the Genki Dama
it\\\'s just a social networking site, the purpose of it is totally fine and whether you like it or not doesn\\\'t make you a fag.
aside from the annoying changes they make every time they update it, i think it\\\'s acceptable, like a much less slutty, more family-friendly myspace. some of the people who get addicted to it can be obnoxious.
sucks if the whole thing about them giving away user info to government agencies is true tho. no way to actually know

They are extreme, and I agree they improved hygiene/life span (specifically indoor plumbing), but my point was rather that at the time, these things were unnecessary, or trivial to many when they were presented. The major differences now are that we have so built our life around what we used to consider luxuries in the past that they have become commonplace. The original phone. Air conditioning. Carpeting. And about a thousand other things. One day cell phones and even the way we interact will have shifted so much that it will be hard to believe that, yes, actually my grandmother didn't have any of the things I listed (including the lack of indoor plumbing) but she lived to the rich old age of 97.
Everything is constantly changing, and will change. I know life would be shitty for me at least without a cell phone. Most people I know don't even have landlines anymore so, no cell phone... no contact. And social networking, like everything else, is not a necessity, but it is an incredibly useful tool at least to me. It allows me to keep up with so many of my friends around the world (for free, even!) and my favorite part is connecting to people I've long lost touch with... allowing me to, like just a week or so ago, get together for the first time in 14 years and hang out again.
This kind of social construct isn't just going to go away, as so many in the new generation have become accustomed to relying on it as a mode of communication and information to and about their friends. It maybe not be a physical invention but it is certainly going to play a major part in first world society for a while, and be the basis for which new and improved communication methods will likely draw inspiration from.

i don't think anyone seriously thinks things like social networking and wireless communication are going to disappear. they're not so much things that we don't need, but rather things we didn't know we needed. communication before cell phones and the internet was archaic compared to what we have now, but back then, most everyone thought it was amazing to have a single line in each house and that was all you needed.
what's different about now compared to the past though is how quickly technology and society is evolving, so it's hard to gauge what's truly revolutionary and what is just a fad or gimmick.
local papers and news sites are like "omg there's gonna be no more facebook, what'll we do??? :_(((("
shit is annoying

me and red are drawing dog dicks right now guys all your mailboxes will be covered in animal genitalia
facebook helped me realize that 50% of the people i have in my friends list are obnoxious and dumb as shit
thank you, facebook
social networking has become too "flashy". They make it sound like a trend or a fashion. It makes me sick. TBA has been a more useful social network to me then Facebook. I prefer to call somebody on a phone then on some website. FB can view every comment and message you make.
Quote from: Tron Sawyerthank you, facebook
plz fuck all my bitches facbeook
Quote from: GhostingFishFB can view every comment and message you make.
AIM, MSN etc see all the comments you make
The phone companies can see every text message you send
The government can listen in on your phone calls.
Google has every post you've made on a forum, all your searches and knows every video you've watched on youtube
And I like it, makes me feel good that some one is watching over me.
