I work as a night auditor at a Comfort Suites in my college town.

Pros
3rd shift so I can sleep as late as I want
Don't need to deal with a lot of people, no coworkers around either
Easy as hell, 3 hours of work spread out over 8 hours
Pretty sunrises
Dick around on the computers as much as I want
Eat eat eat, set up Breakfast Bar and eat shit from there

Cons
3 miles away, I don't have a car so my roommate has to transport me to and fro
Roadkill when I have to walk home
The Breakfast Bar is suddenly not free to employees who put it together anymore but no one's around and no one cares so I still partake verily

tell us of what magical things you find in the vacuum

also, i'm a freelance artist. i make chump change from doing what i really love (painting/animating), and money i can live off doing what is only occasionally fun (graphic video work mostly in AE, web design/programming). but i don't hate it, and i am learning a lot, and i get to sit at home all day instead of commute/sit at desk/deal with douchey coworkers, so i can't complain.

I work returns at a warehouse that stocks Boy Scout merchandise.

Pros:
Money.
Not much legwork involved, I guess.
Plenty of good company around.
Free popcorn every Thursday.

Cons:
I've had to spend the past several weeks just replacing bar codes on shirt tags.
Waiting for the bus 30 minutes after work lets out.

Cons:
When the sessions dont come through
Surviving stretches of time where you just cant get work
Family trying to run everything and being quick to tell you what youre doing wrong

production/ service at steak and shake

pros:
flexible hours
get to hang out with truckers and vagrants during night shift
decent tips since everyone seems to love steak and shake

cons:
nostalgic charm of the uniform wears thin quickly in 90 degree weather
working on grill = goodbye fingertips
typical fast food job shortcomings

I work in a pub which is what i did before and i've done it for nearly 2 years over the two jobs

Pros:
customers can be friendly and offer good conversation
customers buy you drinks....sometimes
its like 5 mins walk from where i live
pay is pretty good

cons:
drunk customers are a pain to deal with
when it comes to drinks some customers are so fussy/petty it's unbelievable
lots and lots of little things to remember and no room for mistakes
bosses are just plain evil

what rtil said, minus programming

pros: work is fun, mostly
cons: dealing with idiotic clients, and their "unique" vision. but those are everywhere so ff

favs:
-people who want constant changes, free of charge, months after the job is done

-guy asking in the middle of the work if his company idea is good enough, does it have a future, should he be investing more, or should he stop and forget about it. if i say my honest opinion, there's no work nor money, if i lie and convince him that he should do it, he wants me to sign up

-clients having midlife crisis, thinking of me as some kind of therapist, and asking for life counseling

-"what do you mean copyrighted?"

half the job is really about convincing people

Legally I'm still a care worker on bank hours, I just have the freedom to not want to work there

pros:
flexible hours (I'd be covering shifts that people can't do for whatever reason)
the feeling of self-worth by helping the most vunerable people
life lessons from the older people with more experience (and a better sense of humour)
free uniform

cons:
I look like a very dumpy nurse because of standardised uniforms
Nursing ward is a nightmare
Minimum wage pay with no shifts to cover at times
Suprisingly stressful job if you have a habit of overthinking about what you see while working

In the meantime I do dorky character illustration for peoples' roleplaying characters and make crochet accessories for people on tba. It is just about getting me through.

pros:

sometimes I can help people with silly things and that feels nice.

cons:
I hate people and retail
I hate people and retail

i work at a sushi place called dadami. i serve, clean, prepare food, answer phones, handle the register, wash dishes, roll silverware, set tables and get yelled at by my insane boss, yooni

pros~sometimes i get free sushi, my coworkers are all fantastic people, i usually only work from about 10-4:30 every day.

cons~ my boss is nuts, the ice machine is broken right now so i have to cart over 10 pound bags of ice from the store every day, i am pretty sure i broke the cd player so we will be listening to the same 5 mix cds forever, i get no customers on saturday lunch, i only get paid 3 dollars an hour, language barrier, it's hot as fuck, and most of the time i have really rude customers. also alot of people who ask me if we have general tso's chicken. because, you know, general tso was japanese.

Work at an art store.

Pros:
Chat with other artists,
Great co-workers/managers who are all cartoonists and comic artists
Easy job sitting at an info counter answering art questions
Using downtime to draw in my sketchbook. Web and computer for browsing.
30% employee discount on all art supplies!

Cons:
Have to take the metro to get there=wake up one hour early to make it in on time
People who call always have stupid vague questions (Do you guys sell that sticky paint?)
Rich women with brat kids treating me like shit (like I'm the "help" rather than a helper)
Pay is low ($11/h).

----------------
Work as an animator for a grant-funded animation show for PBS

Pros:
Animating cool stuff like fire and violent flashbacks for the main character
Cleaning up storyboards means extra pay on top of animating
Great team who like input and critique on the work
Pay is high ($20/h)

Cons:
Doing hours of intense work only for them to say "actually we don't need this part anymore" and it goes to waste
Late nights working and staring at a comp drains you
Hitting deadlines and still making quality stuff
Only paid once every 3 months in a lump check (at least it's big)

--------------------

Work as a fine artist, selling and showing art in galleries

Pros:
Larger Exposure of my artwork in galleries and the art community
Meeting and getting new contacts for commissions and projects
Making money on the art I love to do and art that is mine
Gallery handles all the legal mumbo-jumbo

Cons:
Only get paid if a piece sells (not always guaranteed)
Shows are sparse and take effort to pitch and get accepted
Starving artist life style to afford all the materials and paint

------------------------

Work as a self-published cartoonist

Pros:

Drawing comics and seeing a story come to life on paper
Selling comics with no publisher means I get 100% of the sale (not 12%)
Going to Cons and meeting fans and new potential readers
Promoting my comic usually brings in more exposure to my other stuff (paintings/cartoons)
Seeing your work and hard labor in a real book feels great.
Self employment=tax breaks and write-offs

Cons:

Time management of doing pages is tough thanks to the above jobs mentioned.
Cons cost money, so if I don't make a lot of sales I end up having lost money.
Packing and shipping the work myself means many trips to USPS.
Sales and tax refunds are used mostly to fund the supplies and production of new stuff
(So sometimes real profits are slim when you do the accounting and costs).

work at some AMC movie theater

-pros:
make money
they are nice about giving me more hours and days off when need be
the co-workers are all cool
the job (used to be) pretty easy
close enough that i can walk or bike
see movies for free
can usually get rides home from co-workers
easy to transfer to a different theater if i want to move

-cons:
recently turned into a more sales oriented job with the release of our shitty new membership card thing
the pay sucks ($8/hr)
the hours are completely irregular and change every week
working in the concession stand blows because you have to try to upsell overpriced shitty food AND sell membership cards
a lot of the customers (or "guests") are pissy or just plain stupid. you get the same questions over and over about the same shit
sometimes the management and other co-workers can be passive aggressive and drama/shit talking will occur
have to cut my hair a lot
the job keeps getting harder but the pay remains the same and the crew benefits are slipping away

it's a pretty bad job but when i first started it was pretty chill.

i also make cartoons for rappy mcrapperson

-pros:
doing something i know how to do, i feel like i am actually "needed" or "important" in this sense
i get part of the revenue made from hits, so if the cartoon got popular i'd get some extra cash
deadlines are flexible and i have almost full creative control

-cons:
i actually don't enjoy animation anymore really
i don't really see this job going anywhere
the cartoons never actually blow up

i also play a lot of music

-pros:
it's really fun, fulfilling and rewarding (when it happens)

-cons:
it rarely ever happens because people are flaky
i don't get any money, so it's hard to sustain
i can't afford new equipment or recording studios
i don't really live in a musical area so i don't know many dedicated people or good venues/cultural areas

Pros:
They always hire and will hire anyone
Free Admission + Tickets + Other little perks
As long as you do it way in advance, getting days off isn't too hard.

Cons:
It can possibly steal your soul.
Strict grooming guidelines.
You have to deal with loads of people... in the summer heat.
I can never get my hours quite right, the labor office is ran by monkeys.
Starts at minimum wage.
You'll probably find yourself being clocked out late or early half the time due to poor management.

I also do some ebay on the side.

I guess, you could get some crappy co workers.  But in Rides it's more likely they won't be around for long.
I found it to be a good thing because I needed a job, I should've said they're always hiring.

Work: Full time flash designer and developer. Mainly banner ads and website.

Pros: Great money, great work environment, work with flash, spend most of my day watching youtube videos.

Cons: Money doesn't bring happiness, flash is shit, spend most of my day watching youtube videos and finding them more and more boring.
